Been checking on your videos and I will be two weeks in a couple of days. Seeing the doctor on post day 15. No therapy yet...was just told sleep in sling and wear 24/7. Pain level was almost nill because I kept ahead of it and iced with the ice machine. I can say that I was off all medications within 48 hours of surgery.. I just couldn't do it...made me sick, but I knew that.. Was totally prepared for everything. Hopefully therapy will start after I see him. I had a partial rotator cuff tear and he fixed a bicep tendon and some bone spurs. Only two anchors needed. The tightness in the shoulder is what I am feeling at the moment...the pulling feeling...that is the scary part....like it wants to snap! BUT I know that is normal...
@Kat D I'm glad to read you are doing SO well. That's fantastic! Most people can't say they are off all meds in 48 hours and have total pain control. I didn't want to be on the pain meds either. We are boteh fortunate. That tightness is indeed totally normal. I made sure to do all my Passive Range of Motion (PROM) movements twice daily for the first 6 weeks. Per my surgeon, I also took my arm out of the sling for brief periods when I was seated and awake. It all helps. You will continue to improve weekly. Keep staying positive and you'll do well!
I'm a bit frustrated with my doctor, I'm on week 2 and still not allowed to remove my arm from the sling (I have, though, to shower using a shower sling and towel under my arm). From what I have read there are 2 camps, one PT in the first week and the second no PT until after 2 weeks. Week 2 for you seemed to be good progress with movement and PT. I also have no real pain, like you, more discomfort at times. Every so often I'll move a certain way and get a sharp shooting pain which goes away almost immediately. I am sleeping well, but my arm falls a sleep, so I do wake up a few times a night. Thanks again for these videos, they truly help and encourage.
PT was absolutely crucial for me but that PT was very limited to only passive range of motion. In other words my PT and my wife took turns moving my arm for me so it didn't get locked up. My surgeon also prescribed passive range of motion starting on day 2. I did keep my sling on, with exception of doing the aforementioned PT and taking a shower, where I used a mesh sling instead of draping my arm to the side. I would highly encourage you to talk to a good PT and ask them what they recommend. I believe if I wouldn't have used passive range of motion early on, I wouldn't have had such a good recovery.
You are most welcome! I’m glad it helped. I will be releasing a “How to Prep for Shoulder Surgery “ tomorrow. My intent is to put out a video with all the most important information to prepare for shoulder surgery, all in one place.
Brian. You are most welcome. I hope you are successful with your recovery. Listen to your healthcare team and be consistent. Hopefully you have a support system around you for that first week. It's helpful. Best of wishes on your recovery!
Nothing like that yet. Today my PT used the same movements as shown in the video, but approached them with slightly different angles. He did add the 90/90 rotator cuff movement, similar to throwing a ball. All passive of course. He did say we will only be working on those movements only for the next 4 weeks. I will definitely keep you updated with my progress each week.
I made a video showing how I do it and linked it below. The hard part is taking it off after a workout when I’m sweaty. It takes a few more pulls to get it off then. ruclips.net/video/hfjeIKQ18IE/видео.html
@Ruben Guerra definitely ask your healthcare team what's best for you. I was allowed to take my sling off for short periods as long as I was seated still and awake. It made my arm feel much better.

Thank you for all this information, it really was useful

Thanks for these videos, good stuff! I have my surgery coming up in a few weeks. I hope not to use opioids like you, but will see. Thanks!

Do the doctors have you doing any range of motions for trying to reach up behind your back?

Dang! how did you get that shirt on?

Good evening is it ok like if I take my sling of inside my house while resting in the couch? Would take your sling off once in awhile?
@Ruben Guerra definitely ask your healthcare team what's best for you. I was allowed to take my sling off for short periods as long as I was seated still and awake. It made my arm feel much better.
Thank you
