In 1992 I got my first car it was a 1971 Buick GS 350 I was 16 at the time what a fun car I found out later the GS was in bad shape I don't have my GS anymore but I will have another one in a few years .
That is a nice car. I know on my 68 GTO 8.2 rear end there was no cross pin in the differential. The axles bolted in like a 9 inch Ford. I was told it was a BOP thing as the Chevy 8.2 had the cross shaft and lock bolt. Thank you for the video.
I'm putting my 20 year parked Bronco II back on the road this month, 50k original miles and zero rust 4x4. I used studs for mounting the logs on my olds along with copper gaskets.
Good for you, get wrenching! Have to say while this Buick was a bit of a pain doing header gaskets.. it's nothing near as bad as Pontiac or AMC. We'll see how how bad the Olds 455 is once we FINALLY get to that project!
I tried to buy a GS just like it for my first car, but my parents said no. I finally ended up with a 66 Chevelle Malibu. I never forgot the GS. Then in my forties I found a 70 Buick GS Stage 1 and bought it. One of these days before i die (I'm 72 now) i hope I can get one of these just for nostalgia sake.
Your parents were PROBABLY right to not let you have something this angry for your first car, or you might not be around now to comment about it! Hopefully you can find one and check it off your list as well!

Hey Rich when the 6.0 came out Ford had sent all the special tools for us to work on them and there was a tool that you could take the glow plug out and put the tool in so you could put air into the cylinders because several times I would pump up the coolant tester to 18- 20 psi for a long time and nothing would happen but with the tool I was able to confirm the blown head gasket but sometimes it took getting the engine hot by putting cardboard in front of the radiator and I would find that the egr cooler had a leak I'm just suggesting not trying to tell you how to do your job your a smart man and I've been impressed with the work you do. God bless and as always be safe 👍 PS nothing better than a thumping cam it's music to my ears
It's really hard to find an LS that truly sounds as good as old school muscle, they are just too... "perfect" maybe? We love LS stuff for the power it can make and the cost but... there's more soul in the old school
An old friend of my fathers had one of those in the same condition and he loaned a guy some money and the guy didnt come pay him his money back so we took it amd made a dirt track car outta it. It broke my heart to see this man knock all the glass outta it and build a cheesy roll cage inside of it and welded the both doors shut . Cut the gas tank out form under it amd put it and secured it in the trunk.of the car. It was a very very nice car. The first night oit running in what they called a bomber class racing car and it got banged up on every corner and side panel on the whole car. I was so mad at the guy i coulda socked him in the nose. Then a tear later he bought a 71 camaro street car with a pretty stout small block in it and a foir speed and the guy he bought it from took the money he gave him for it and the next day had a change of heart and would t give up the title even though he gave hima bill of sale so to get back at the guy who owned the camaro he did the exact same thing to it. I told the guy i wasnt having anything to do with destroying such and kick ass car. I never went racing with that guy again. It got way outta hand and i didnt wanna be considered part of the bad publicity he got behind it all.
Back on the 80s we would use station wagon springs in the back and trick springs in the front with 90/10s and ground off the "teeth" off of the the control arm bushings..used Comppetion Engering "lift bars" on the rear end and moved the lower control arm bolts in 1 inch. 4 speed leaving at 5500. Felt like someone rear ended you. 455 built somewhat between a Sock and Super Stocker. It was a street car. Rn it at the old Wayne Trail and Avilla. I was a 72 442
I’ve mentioned to you before Rich that in my teenage years I owned a 70 GS Stage 1 455 convertible. But man I sure do Love that Skylark, and BTW, nice choice on replacing those Buick center caps with the Skylark caps. They do the car justice.
I build custom BOP engines for a living I have a Built Buick 455 now 464 in my 1973 chevy long bed it’s pretty rowdy, dynoed at 569hp and 588tq pump gas deal, so much fun! Very cool car guys!
Try an orange pump cam, nice to see you checking the diaphragm clearance at WOT. 👍 * recommended clearance is .015”-.018” holding the throttle wide open to get full capacity without damaging the diaphragm. For anyone unfamiliar.
In 1983, my first car was 64’ Skylark. I wish it had been this nice. I believe it had a 301, it definitely had a 2 speed powerglide. At 55 years old, I wish I had it back to fix up. Great job on this one

My first car in 1981 was a ‘66 scout. Had 65k original on it and garage kept. 152 cid 4 banger and 4.88 gears😁. Saved my driving record till I got a v8 in ‘84😉
@@mikemiller3007 that would be nearly identical to mine. I loved that thing. No rust, 4.88 front and rear diffs, full floating dana in the rear, Dana 18 2-lever transfer case. But something had happened to the engine before me, I think they'd thrown a set of rod bearings in it. The slant 4 truly was gutless, couldn't spin mud from the treads to get a bite. So, I dropped a 231 in it with a th350 and d18 case adapter along with a saturn overdrive. That made all the difference in the world, it would go anywhere it was pointed and deliver 25mpg on the highway.

I had those aluma-seal header gaskets, they sealed up Good, I sold my short tubes, I think 2 bolts were missing and all were about hand tight and they never leaked.

I had a 1967 Buick GS 400 I blew the motor up they said it was beautiful. Anyway I found a 455 stage 1 in a 1970 destined to the junkyard so I bought that motor. Cost me $25. Never lost a race in that car LOL.
We KNOW what this Skylark ran back when it was on track though those times were with a drag tire... the Pontiac we're still hunting for it's true potential. But there WILL be a race coming, oh don't you worry about that 😉
Unfortunately this is a little beyond what one would typically use a drum puller and being aluminum there's a better than average chance it would explode the drum 😞 which... still may happen

I ran Hooker Pro comp headers on my 67' Fairlane GTA with a built 428cj, domed pistons, solid lifter camshaft, roller rockers. I would suggest disc brakes all four corners when you change our the springs. Does it have front and rear sway bars? Made a big difference to my Fairlane when I put on on the rear. That is a beautifulcar, I love Buicks, abd was raised up wuth them since my father worked at Buick Motor Division fir 25 years and we always had them. Dad would swap engines out of Chevrolet wuth 430 engines that he would get out of junkyards and rebuild them , and I had a couple of cars that I built and would love to have them again. I had a 66 skylark that I installed a 455 in, and used to outrun almost everyone in street races, and later I had a 75 special that I installed a 455 in as well. My father had a 1970 Stage 1 engine, and we used to install it occasionally in cars like the 75 special, but always pulled that motor and would replace it with a stock 455. Also my brother lucked out and was able to aquire a white 1970 Stage 1 Gran Sport, and his dumb ass sold my dad's 1970 engine, abd his 1972 Gran Sport in the 1990s, and he also let a whole drive train out of my grandmother's 1973 Centurion get away that dad had ordered with a Stage 1 engine. The reason that I say my brother let all of them get away is because he lived a thousand miles from me, but back close to my grandparents, abd had access to all of the engines and cars that I was not able to monitor. It's all good now though because I found a 66 special that I hope to be able to retro back into something close to what I had, even though it is pretty rough compared to my old 66 which was in a hundred times better condition than the one that I found recently, and also found a 74 Stage 1 out of a Riviera that I am rebuilding to go in the car. I hope that the expense and all of the blood sweat and tears will be worth it!
That’s not unusual for the squirters to have some fuel being pulled in under full throttle. The only way to stop that is use anti siphon squirters. Your black carb throat is an indication that the primary throttle blades are open too far, exposing too much transfer slot. You can test that by turning in one mixture screw all the way. If it doesn’t kill the engine, too much transfer slot is showing. Or, not enough timing advance at idle which causes more reversion in the intake. If you have a MSD dist you can use a different advance bushing to limit the amount of centrifugal, then you can use more initial timing. The moroso style dual return springs work well, and do not bind at full throttle, which having the return spring placed wrong can do.
We'll see what happens before the snow flies, would really love to get both the Pontiac and Buick to the track together... gonna need Bill to stay off the juice bottle to make this a "fair fight" too 😉
The front drums on the Buick Riviera were finned aluminum and that was a "hot rod" upgrade for the early hot rods. Now people hide disc brakes under the aluminum drums so they can achieve even817-3833 better braking with the old school appearance. Kids these days. The huge drum Rivi brakes literally work great on a car half the weight they were designed for.
On the 6 liter, there isn’t a crack in one of the injectors? I try to stay away from diesels at our shop, seen my buddy get get all kinds of injuries working on then trucks, but I remember him having some kind of issue like that on one, it may have been 6.4 though, which is totally different. Good luck on your diag rich.

If you want your Carb Dialed in you should have Bill the Old Guy do it, he's very good at that!
On that Powerstroke 6.0 it’s definitely has a bad injector cup, it’ll only leak under injector pressure, not coolant pressure.

those valve covers are extremely rare.T/A performance had to remove the Buick name from their valve covers a few years back.

Yep been there before. Had to heat up the drum some with penitrating fluid. It was sticking on the axel though.

Turn the back brake adjustor thru the access hole on back plate will loosin brake pads and brake drums come rite off

Take a look at. Stage 8 header bolts
I use a stainless stud and arp 12 point nuts on headers , clamps better and not putting all the load on the threads in the head.

I thought this looked familiar, I've seen it!! I really screwed up!! I accidentally deleted my RUclips history when I though I was clearing history in the web browser, ummm...yeah! Oops!! Years of history... GONE!!!! 14 years!!! Cleared all my watched history!! I fixed it up myself!! Or the other F word!! ffffggrrr~sh¡t!! Yeah, that word!
