- Gordon Freeman of the Half Life series, has always fought for humanity's freedom against the Combine, but what if Gordon turned his back on the resistance, and joined his sworn enemies?
I can imagine Gordon bobbing his head up and down, accepting Breen's Offer and after he gets a pistol, he just fucking shoots Breen in the head, ending everything 😂
Then Gordon becomes the leader.
The lore sadly isnt like that...

More so because it was Red Letter Day ( Knowing that Gordon is perfect for Chaos situation , a tactical sitaution he should use A Shepard but you know Gearbox "non canon" )
Nonetheless it was pretty obvious what his plans were even if he didn't said it directly to Gordon, as he later knows what he is supposed to do and if for some reason Gordon ever changed sides like that, it would ruin G-man's plans and stop him immedietely.

If he’s not careful, he’d eventually be forced to start over from his last save for killing the wrong person at the wrong time and not being able to progress.
The rebels are just regular citizens with a gun and a vest so i think he could go very far

I think a more realistic way for Gordon to "join the Combine" is to just have him wake up after the events of HL1 in Combine custody. They then feed him whatever propaganda they want and arrange circumstances so that he has no choice but to fight against the Resistance. For example, the Combine "leaks" to the Resistance that Gordon Freeman is their champion, manipulating them into pre-emptively seeing Gordon as a traitor.
This makes an assumption I don't entirely agree with.
That Breen wanted Gordon as a foot soldier
"Fortunately the resistance has shown it is willing to accept a new leader. And this one has proven to be a fine pawn for those who control him." Breen says this during the last pod scene. This likely means that breen wanted Gordon to be a puppet leader of some sort. Possibly of the resistance to ensure they dont succeed by keeping them under the combines thumb. If the resistance's leadership has either died, been captured or turned against them the resistance would likely elevate Gordon to some level of leadership. And if he accepted that offer he would be a puppet under breen (and or the combines) control. Using gordon as a foot soldier would be a total waste of subterfuge use. Gordon is effectively the resistance's messiah.

...to be fair too... He had no buffer between half life 1 & 2, and being abducted from a interdimensional alien invasion only to get launched 20 years ahead to his world destroyed... can't blame the man for thinking:

How do you even join the combine? Do you just walk into the citadel, go into Dr Breens office and just be like *"get the advisor and get me a contract to sign because I wanna be a metro police!"*
Most human combatants had been converted into the Combine's "transhuman" branch sometime after humanity's surrender (Hecu marines and etc.) but I'm not sure how you join post Seven hour war...
I think that you'd have to ask some metrocop that you want to join, then the metrocop may get instructions from the superiors that he needs to follow and you would probably be escorted somewhere for the contract or whatever

I can imagine evil gordon marching with the combine to the white forest like jedi temple march but instead of lightsaber it's modified crowbar which upgraded by the combine tech.
Actually an upgraded crowbar in general seems like an interesting concept.

The Gordon I knew would absolutely betray the Resistance the first chance he got. It's like what a bunch of people have said in the past, who Freeman is as a person is entirely dependent on what YOU see him as. But even if that wasn't the case, I don't really see any connections between him and ANY of the Rebels, even Barney or Alyx. He's been in stasis for years and probably doesn't even remember most of these people.
For him Stasis was a few seconds, he was best buddies with Barney and Kleiner was his Teacher at M.I.T. And he worked with Magnusson, Eli and Kleiner at Black Mesa.
He literally wouldn't know it would have been 20 years if no one told him. He wasn't asleep he wasn't awake he was just frozen.

honestly i dont know why in half life alyx gordon russel and eli think gordon would be willing to join the rebels, theres no evideence to suggest that he would and if he is even alive, plus they dont even really care about him, in hl2 after you leave kleiners lab you dont even get a gun!

Imagine if Valve actually saw this and was like "Hey i mean we got some disgusting stuff In the Half life episodes... HMMMMM Sure why not give it a go Lets see how far it would go." I think it would be called Half life C3MBINE (Side note: I really love Dog and now i dont really like this ending i do like the Idea its just When i heard that Dog. my most favourite character within the half life 2 and plus episodes Timeline. I wouldnt want this to happen.

This to be honest would make a great half life opfor 2 where gman sends Adrian to fix it cause if u think about it shephard basically survived the same heck Gordon did and shephard nearly stopped nuke and the second invasion from race x and gman even put shephard where he can’t cause harm and no harm can come to him maybe bc gman thought he could by himself like Gordon stop a whole invasion or an army like Gordon did the combine and the final boss being Gordon himself and maybe an advisor.

I personally believe it’s a little more complex than that. I don’t believe Freeman has a devotion. He’s not really on either side he’s on his own side it just happens that that side has one thing in common with the resistance its that he kills combine the resistance helps him because he is still an ally to them, but he’s not really devoted to much of anything other then just staying alive. The whole half-life franchise is that Freeman doesn’t want to be a family man he doesn’t want to be a badass he doesn’t want to be a hero. He’s just a regular guy The reason he does all the things throughout the franchise is just because it’s either that or die in short, he’s definitely not a bad guy, but there really is no motive for him besides self preservation Imagine constantly being in the heat of the moment that’s basically what he is throughout the entire half-life franchise he’s always in the heat of the moment and never has a chance to sit down and actually think about more than just survival so I guess you could say he’s in the right place at the right time or to put it better… he’s the right man in the wrong place… though nonetheless I do like this video :)

Ever since i played Entropy : Zero (1-2) i've choosen the Combine side. Fuck the resistance.. They can't possibly win anyways. Imagine fighting against a force capable of invading the earth in 7 hours

I’d like to apply the “no free will” theory here and say G-Man wanted this all along, or at least his Employers did, and he knew it’d eventually happen and watched it unfold in good will, then he’d take Gordon back into stasis.
The G-Man, or whoever his employers are, offered Gordon in a bid, and whatever the rebels had to offer was obviously more valuable than what a multidimensional alien empire had. Either that or the G-Man wanted to knock the Combine down a few pegs.
That being said, if the Combine wanted a champion of their own, Shepard would be the likely candidate because, if he had heard the orders, he too would have been killing Black Mesa personnel without hesitation.
