Wow, great presentation Jonathan with equally valuable advice. My focus during tomorrow's inspection will incorporate all that you outlined in the video but to add drone comb. One of my hives is still struggling with Varroa, even after a few battle sessions of OAV. The mite levels have improved but not near the level of my other hive so I will lure the mites over to the drone frame, just like you did in one of your videos. In southern CA and with the population of bees brooding up fast, I am afraid that OAV won't be as effective this time of year.

good afternoon Doc, I appreciate your videos. we have been having some nice days here in Colorado. last week I fed all of my hives pollen substitute. lost 7 out of 45. the survivors are strong and Monday I will go thru each one in depth, pull off empty supers and rotate deeps. thank you for your insights to beekeeping.
just got home from trying to inspect my hives. it was to windy to open them up so I cleaned outy dead outs a placed some nuc boxes so I can do splits next month. rain/ snow in the forecast for the next few days.
We run singles, so we need to check for signs of swarming. Last year one of our hives had queen cells and drone cells in the candy board. The swarmed before we caught it and we still had a strong hive.
Hi, do you survive winters with just a deep box for each hive? Can you tell me where you live and what kind of winters you have. I tried two deeps loaded with honey and provided sugarboards and pillow boxes and lost my hives in North Idaho.
Yes of course! I live in the north Georgia mountains. We have moderate winters and don’t need to wrap our hives here. We’re still in a cold area because of the mountains. I only winter my splits in single deeps. My most success is wintering in one deep and one medium super. Did your hives consume all of their winter stores?🐝

Good morning Doc. I just got done building a Nuc stack with feeder board. I plan on one of my splits hiving in the 5 frame Nuc stack.

Great question! I don’t use pollen traps but I think you empty them daily so that the pollen doesn’t mold.
