If you want to get a job as an instructor or inspector in your state you really don’t need a degree. But you still need to know what you’re doing.
What???? You aren't a certified Jedi Master beekeeper? How could you possibly have given me such great, spot-on advice without a piece of paper? Oh, I get it, experience! If anyone discredits you because of a lack of paper, dismiss them politely and wish them luck. I have found you to be a great wealth of knowledge and you have never steered me wrong. You've got a great channel! Mind you, I applaud anyone who puts forth the effort and the knowledge gained by such effort, but experience trumps paper in my book.
How do I get your email address.
Right here! TheHiveDoctor@gmail.com
You stated cotton cloth are not suitable for this process some bee keeper use white Swedish cloth they break down blue ones and colour cloths could have die chemicals within them
I’ve had good luck with 8” timber screws….

Hey Mark, thanks for watching! Please recall that I talked about covering the already-familiar parts before covering the changes I made. I realize screened bottom board isn’t a new thing. Thanks again for your support 🐝🐝
Nice, but screened bottom boards already exist. You may "patent" the design, but not the screened bottom board. But good luck with your design. Mark
I applaud your spirit of innovation but what you have designed here does not qualify for a patent. You’ve taken a bottom board and put it on backwards. There is nothing to patent there. Please do not spend money on a patent attorney for this. The patent process takes years. Most applications are denied or rejected for a lack of specificity. At which point you reapply and the cycle continues till you prove originality or give up. The attorney fees add up and it takes thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars to get a patent. Please do not waste your time and money.
Surely Technosetbee triple gate system (fully open, gated and vented closed) that also converts to 3 separate nuc style in one box is the most versatile currently on the market. The triple gate means that you can quickly push down to lock shut to vented entrances in case there's an Asian hornet attack or stop robbing frenzies. They simply can't get in yet the entrance is still vented. There's also a closable upper entrance. Feeding is just a case of lifting the lid without opening the hive itself so you aren't disturbing the bees and you can feed both syrup and fondant at the same time. It doesn't matter which side of the hive you are putting the feed in from, just a no nonsense approach. Then there's also the underfloor entrance style hives which achieves more in a simple design. You don't need to deface the boxes reducing the R-Value and you don't want to encourage robbing behaviour. I'd save your money rather than reinventing the wheel, it just seems to be making life more difficult.
Hey Jonathan, are you going to the the honeybee expo in Louisville?
Sorry for the delayed response. It is my every intention to go! Not set in stone quite yet. Are you going??
@thehivedoctor13 yes
Good information Jonathan. Thank you
I am glad you found it helpful!
Your label should transition to the honey in the jar. Try a screened graphic in the background so it’s not such a shock. Whereas it flows smoothly. I am not criticizing you just trying to help.
Thanks!
Once again, I thank you Kevin!! You’ve been a wonderful reminder of why I do what I do and it makes me want to get even better so that I can continue to offer something to beekeepers like you.
True to customers and true to ourselves as beekeepers. Good advice doc! Living on a road called Tiny Trail thus: Tiny Trail Farm in the WNC mountains gets attention. My graphic is a chicken with a tulip poplar blossom in its peak with bees chasing it works for me. Thanks again Doc!
That's a cool guy spin you've got there with that hive tool! Oklahoma is a very honey friendly state. I can produce up to 500 gallons without having to have a commercial license. Yes, 500 gallons!
I've just started Beekeeping. So far, you've become one of my favorite You Tube hosts. I love the practical advice. Please keep them coming!
hi I will be a brand new beekeeper next year, picking up my Nuc March 30th... I plan on using your method for mite control. Great Idea, thanks. John in California
Sitting here scrolling while eating a quick snack . Great topic. Taking a break from cutting comb for a local fruit stand who sells a crazy crap ton of it. Not cheap stuff. End retail pushes over 20+ a pound. They carry 3 lines of honey. 1. Garbage thats cheap. hate to call it honey. bad. 2. That from a packer that buys and packs from beeks all over the west. 3. Ours. .... Local , raw, and low carbon footprint Monosource types The prices in the ABJ are irrelavent. We get 5 times what they claim and theres never enough of it. 44 years since i bottled my first jar and one thing is certain.... One will never has enough supply when you sell a consistently honest product.
Is VarroxSan safe to use in my hive? I see you use drilled holes in your hive instead of the the large opening across the bottom of the hive. Why do you use drilled holes in your hive?
Im organized magnetic just like my personality
I gave a sloppy side, but, I’m very mobile. I have what I need to go help or catch a swarm in less than 5 min. I’m working on my sloppy side.
It is very cool makes it nice when you need it just to reach and it's there
Exactly! Now I just need to always put things back when I’m done with them!
I was very proud of my Grandfather : He had 209 hives in the 1960’s ; he was 40 miles away from any agricultural lands , had no need to treat for any pests , diesels , mites or viruses . I helped him load an order of 10 fifty five gallon drums of PURE TUPALO honey ( almost 8,000 pounds that sold for $0.48 cents a pound were the current prices we $0.15 cents a pound . The buyer tested the honey @ 16% moisture . The buyer stated “ I want a contact to buy ALL of your Tupelo honey in the future @ a premium price . The buyer represented a major Honeybun corporation . Grandaddy separated each frame of honey according to the source of blossoms that were open at specific time of flowering .
🤯 That is some seriously cool Beekeeping history!!
Sloppy bee keeper here wishing I had more storage and more orginized
You’re an honest Beekeeper as well!😂. I get that, I didn’t have storage for a long time until I got my shed.
I live in southern Georgia in an area that has thousands of feral hives in the swamps of the Flint River . I need to go through my 5 hives and upgrade my bottom boards , remove queen screens and set them up for winter ( at present , the conditions are warm enough for the foragers to come in and out of the hives . My hives are VERY HOT and defensive because of the feral robbers . What can you suggest for me to CALM down the aggressive behaviors of my hives ?
Your area sounds really nice! Calming down the hives hmmm 🤔. That’s a great question to ask unique situation I have little experience with. The only thing that comes to mind is when some beekeepers use a misting spray bottle with lemongrass or spearmint rather than a smoker. It is said to have a calming effect but I have not tried it myself yet.
Middle here.... definitely middle
That's actually A good idea. I'm glad I watched this video
I'm for innovation and all, but you have to remember that beekeepers by their very nature are an innovative bunch and exist in their thousands outside of youtube, just because you haven't seen something on youtube it's does not mean that it doesn't exist. I've designed many things over the years, some I've kept and some I've scrapped. I don't not see anything in your design that I haven't seen a thousand times before over the years in a thousand different variations. I hate to discourage or be negative but I feel you have been poorly advised on the parameters of your patent. You've just made some minor adjustments to a pre-existing piece of equipment, all of which have been done before in one form or another,, there is absolutely nothing new about it.. Sorry to leave a slightly negative comment and I wish you all the best..
Have tools on shop table but would like that style.
I’m an attempted organized beekeeper.
😂
pretty sick
You are talking about RESPECT and some people are all about what benefits them the most.
How do you like the plastic feed caps? I use a flow-hive mouse guard attached to an entrance reducer, works well in all seasons.
Oh that’s an awesome idea! And I love the plastic feed caps. I am converting everything over to them. They’re heavy duty and don’t rust which is so nice!
È proprio vero , tutto il mondo è un paese. 😅😅
Interesting experiment. How long are you running the experiment for before showing the mite drop and results. Have you thought about mixing the oil in the drip/pest tray so the vapour runs up into the hive?
Sign me up, love to try it!
Thanks man, I appreciate your support more than you know!🐝🐝
Congrats 🎉
How would you consider changing your label/marketing if one uses oxalic/Formic acid, particularly if the honey supers aren’t on? I’m curious since they are naturally occurring in beehives.
Great question! I need a little more information though. What do you mean by “change your label”? Like, to indicate it’s use or non-chemical?
@ I mean, would you label it as non chemical/all natural/etc? Something along those lines, if you treated for mites with those acids?
@JoneyJefe Gotcha! Yes, I believe that would be a very good and strong marketing point: all natural/chemical-free hives/no harsh chemicals used.
How would the bees clean out the hives with just the holes? I understand you have the new and improved utility patent pending bottom board with the screen, but what about those with the solid bottom boards?
The bees will drag dead bees up off the bottom board and fly out of the hole with it. I saw it happen just the other day! And this particular design would not work well with solid bottom boards unfortunately.
Good luck. I also want to patent scissors and a comb. And when I earn a lot of money, I will patent the wheel.
Ingenious
Thanks😁
Is it advisable to add holes to existing hives or should I get new boxes- add holes- swap frames?
Good question…I find it easier to drill empty boxes and swap frames. Good thinking!
@ enjoyed your video on bottom board, wish they were available. I’d rather get them from you/ your manufacturer .
@jimsteel7203 I appreciate that very much! I also think it’s cool how quickly you read my book!😅 🐝 💨
I want 2♥️♥️💯👍🏻‼️
Instead of having many entrances, all you need is something like a Kewl floor, also known as an underfloor entrance, it protects againt rodents entering and robbing, wasps are vulnerable when trying to enter. Here in Europe, we have done what you are doing for decades. Downside to the sliding board being kept in for a fair bit of the time, is the build up of detritus and a breeding ground for wax moth and sometimes many of us have found the sliding board hard to remove due to the detritus.
I’ve also experienced the sliding board as difficult to remove sometimes 😅🐝
We have been using rear feeders on our NUK boxes no front entrance and drilled holes in the box they have a screened bottom with a bottom board all we are missing is the little hole that we have no need for. I appreciate your video but I would recommend you save your money as your not going to be able to patent what already exists.
I appreciate your input 😉. Part of the patenting process was patent research, finding if there’s anything already on the market that resembles this bottom board.
I like them. Link for me to try one?
Cool thanks! They’re not in the manufacturing stage quite yet!
