Keep up the great work man! I’m 2 months in on this hobby and trying to keep my Davis alive and your over here spawning clown fish with an ultimate legend to help.
Reason only Uno survived? The 24 lighting had nothing to do with it. It takes some time to learn to capture food. If they fail by 3 days, they don't make it, and that is likely what happened to your babies. You have to keep on top of the food situation, maintaining around 10 rotifers per ml , phytoplankton in the tank to keep it cloudy.
Hey Remi, I had a similar experience. I had a brood where ultimately only one survived. I "babied" him for 8 months before introducing him back to the main tank. And like you, I will never get rid of him. I keep pics on my Instagram. I hope Uno makes it.
So excited for you! And glad you’re going to keep at it. I met a local clownfish breeder almost 20 years ago but could only dream of being able to also. You’re living the dream Remy! 😎
@Bahama Llama Coral - I've been doing some research for you so that you'd be more successful on your journey. I've heard from many people that you can feed baby brine shrimp right off the bat to larvae but they must be under 36 hours and the brine shrimp have yolk sacks that are tremendously nutritious to all types of fry. I think to be safe, you should make the water a little bit colder because the eggs will take longer to hatch BUT the larvae will come out more developed. I think it's also very telling that your larvae died after day 1. Usually fish are hardy both freshwater and marine and I've raised koi fry successfully in a tank I never did water changes on (tho I did have plants). However, I've come to realize with research that clownfish larvae are very sensitive so I'd recommend putting in SeaChem Prime and then Stability. Prime uses oxygen and other molecules to detoxify ammonia so that it isn't as harmful while stability has bacterium that will consume it meaning you won't have to do as many if not any water changes because there are also denitrifying bacteria in it. And from my research rotifers themselves aren't really nutritious they're like packages in which clownfish larvae can eat the phytoplankton that they can consume. it's very possible that the clownfish larvae had rotifers that weren't full on the phytoplankton. And it's a common practice to turn your light off on day 1 as the larvae themselves have yolk sacks they will eat off of and often times light can be a turn on and turn off for fish and they will expend all their energy trying to get closer to it or away from it. So yea Remy I hope I could help. Edit: Here is the link to someone who has only fed brine shrimp since day 1 www.reef2reef.com/threads/clownfish-breeding-with-brine-shrimp.825437/

It's a big trail and error experience Ive'd use the clay pots but a better results using a ceramic tile. I couldn't keep flow in the pots. I would try using both a pot and a tile
Can you not just let the parents fully rear the fry? I'm a freshwater guy, have no idea about the general husbandry of reef fish... But the nest-guarding fish in my side of the hobby tend to do a pretty decent job at raising their own fry after a few attempts.
Yes! I might try it down the road I'm just not set up for it. The issue with clown fry is that they will be consumed by parents or tank mates if left. They do a great job at keeping the eggs clean - just not so awesome after...lol. You can do the trap technique which is what I'll try at some point.
Remove the eggs the day before hatch night. Count the days from lay to hatch because they will consistently hatch in that many days. And eggs start to hatch about 45 min after lights out.

If you're doing it the right way (or so I'm told) you shouldn't need to add any as they will reproduce within the green water. You can also take small samples of water in a cuvette or pipette to see the concentration of them. You can always add from your culture if need be.
Usually the clown fish pair will ventilate the whole day around the eggs. All day long will they use their fins to keep the eggs moving. Day after day, they pick off bad ones too when they can tell they will not make it.
Next batch try a higher temperature. Bump up whatever you have now a couple of degrees. I think if I remember correctly 82F produced headstripes in 7 days. Hobby thermometers are notoriously inaccurate, though.

1 survivor is still good for first try if he makes it. Lighting schedule before meta is debated but having it off some at night definitely isn't bad and shouldn't cause a mass die off. In fact if your ever low on rotifers more time with the light turned off is better the larvae will sleep and use less energy giving your rotifers time to multiply. If you get a 10$ handheld microscope you can actually do a little autopsy on your fry. If their belly is silver it has rotifers and it probably wasn't starvation. With your clownfish eggs maybe you pulled them to early? Ether way the first couple of batches from New parents normally aren't super healthy

While they hatch, dont turn on any lights let 2 hours past after the first fry hatches and then turn on the light.
Mixed reviews on taking them out of the water. I've seen it done both ways. I think once I get a trap or a siphon system set up I'll let parents do all the work. I was also having some heater issues. Couldn't get the tank up to 80 so it took a couple days longer. Hoping to improve each time!

Learning is part of the hobby. Nice job man. I did for filtration in betta fry tank a small sump. Overflow just small pvc pipe with a small mesh filter. For return just an airline tube with a very small pump. Just enough to keep te water in the tank moving and keep ammonia and nitrite to 0. Small spike in ammonia can happen fast if you start feeding.
10 days? Uno should be getting his head stripe now. He looks good, though. For the pot, prop it up so the spot with the eggs is a vertical wall, upward flow of bubbles goes just past the eggs. You don't want the pot on its side with the eggs on the roof, Then the air bubbles will beat them up. Any other position and the eggs won't get the flow they need to avoid fungus. Good luck.
Thanks for all your help along the way Kathy! He's still swimming around. I'm feeding a decent amount during the day. The pot thing...I'll try that next time!

Hey Remy, how old are your clowns in the frag tank, just got a 1 plus year old pair of black storms and wondering around what age clown fish start to breeding, thank for a awesome video once again 👌
Mine are 3-4 years old. Got them when they were babies. I just recently noticed them spawning 6 months or so ago...that doesn't mean they weren't doing it well before that.
Good luck, it took me a year of trying before having them past larval stage, the method that worked for me was using a airline sponge filter in water from my main tank
Thanks for sharing, easy to just show the good. But like you said lessons learnt and fingers crossed for the future baby clowns. If only you had a mate who sells Nems and clowns ;) Every two weeks is crazy often!

Sorry it didnt work out this time mate. Does the clown fish have one smaller fin than the other one by the way? 🤔
LOL!!! I just cannot name him Nemo...I can't. lol.

Absolutely loved this in-depth review on breeding clownfish, would love to have bred my clownfish fry , but have always been put off, definitely going to look into it as my fish lay eggs all the time 👍 good luck with the little guy and I'm keeping my fingers crossed 🤞
Thank you!! Happy to share the journey!
That clownfish is going to be indestructible :)
Right?! lol. He's a trooper that's for dang sure!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral he is the chosen uno😎
Hey Remy, how old are your clowns in the frag tank, just got a 1 plus year old pair of black storms and wondering around what age clown fish start to breeding, thank for a awesome video once again 👌
Mine are 3-4 years old. Got them when they were babies. I just recently noticed them spawning 6 months or so ago...that doesn't mean they weren't doing it well before that.
Good luck, it took me a year of trying before having them past larval stage, the method that worked for me was using a airline sponge filter in water from my main tank
I've got one seasoned and ready to go! I think I should be ok to use it now. He's definitely past meta.
Thanks for sharing, easy to just show the good. But like you said lessons learnt and fingers crossed for the future baby clowns. If only you had a mate who sells Nems and clowns ;) Every two weeks is crazy often!
LOL! I just got a small pair from him yesterday and they are beauties! Still a year or two out from spawning but I'll enjoy them in the meantime!
