Vehicles that have higher headlight heights than standard need to be required to be aimed with a larger "dip" in the vertical (angled downward a little bit more) and/or horizontal axis (more to the right) than standard height headlights. I think a lot of big truck tractor ("semis") did this voluntarily which is why most big trucks didn't seem to blind worse than most cars. The beams illuminated about as far forward from the truck cabs as many cars" headlights did. The old sealed beam headlight bulbs were easier to aim because of the lugs that were on the surface that allowed aiming equipment to be positioned on them much like a suction cup, with the vehicle properly level, no screens and measurements were needed as long as the sealed beam unit itself wasn't defective. Old sealed beam units just had normal lightbulb filaments and vacuum inside, most later ones actually contained a halogen capsule sealed inside (which had the filaments inside the clear quartz glassy envelop along with the halogen and/or inert gas).
Proper Aiming is only a half measure and would be a complete solution IF All roads were perfectly Flat and Straight with absolutely Zero Topography and ALL vehicles had headlights that were set very low. Drivers shouldn't have to look to the white line on the right side of the road. Also, when managing to merge unto a road, street, freeway, etc , from a driveway, parking lot, etc..., GUESS WHERE You have to look ?!? ..., Directly at the Headlights of Traffic.
You actually think government writes laws and not corporate lobbyists? Auto manufacturer won't change because it's cheaper for them to use dumb tech LEDs.
I don't get it with these damned headlights. I still own a 1986 with old school "sealed beam" headlights and I can see at night at 60 years old. Maybe growing up with these types of headlights I became used to them. I also have a 1996 Chevy pickup with halogen bulbs, they're not blinding and I can see the road at night just fine. How many lumens do you need? Smart headlights. There isn't a single part of a new car they don't want controlled by the PCM. What's next, smart floor mats?
Had to get a windshield tint rated at 85% VLT from Hüper Öptik. Klar85 is nearly transparent but cuts down headlight glare at night. The nano-ceramic film blocks a little heat from the sun in the daytime too. Priceless when driving a lower car around new trucks and SUV's at night.
One aspect that is overlooked is the DOT maintaining proper, usable, lane striping, particularly the white line on the right. Yes, some people upgrade headlights for ego, but others legitimately can’t see the lanes of the road at night, especially in rain, so they install brighter lights. A good reflective line might eliminate their feeling the need to upgrade. Plus, highly visible lines help drivers maintain their lane when they are forced to look away when they do face these brighter lights of oncoming traffic.
@@ColinFowler actual from what I heard from a driver that got a car set that way - they had to search for a way to change the setting to something else.
Bro if you cops want to rake revenue , pull people over for keeping the high beams on why is this not being reported as part of the problem this is actually part of it ?!?!?! Especially in northern and southern DE .
Yes the police could make a ton of $$$. If they start ticketing I bet people would fix the problem. I tell Chicago police all the time. Our idiot mayor put these on their dam suv's and buses!!!!This is the wrong city!!!
I literally drive with my left hand covering oncoming blinding lights! Which is safer?!? My hand covering my eyes and I can still barely see anything in front of me or the a hole making their lights less bright or pointing them the eff down?!? Hmmm I wonder?!?
Car headlights are so bright so that you can get the "plus" for the safety pick plus designation. Somewhere in my lifetime, they included illumination as one of the criteria, knocking the "plus" off the designation for many cars until they engineered brighter headlights.
Lights colored blue are likely illegal, however the blue color from the LED lights are just a tint. Just like how halogen headlights are tinted orange.
Just for reference regular night light or moonlight has a colour temperature of about 4100K. So once again why are 6000+K white/blue (half again as much energy) lights needed?
At this point, I might as well get my windows tinted specifically for these lights. Sick of having my retinas burned every time I’m unfortunate enough to run into them.
We need actually engineers setting the new standard here. There are lots of misinformation and misinterpreted information in this video. There needs to be study to normalize wht is acceptable and why is considered dangerous bright light....
I'm from Europe and what they failed to mention is that these adaptive headlights are usualy on higher end to luxury cars and can cost as much as a new cheap car, from 1-2k upt to 10-15k😂. Yeah, great solution!!! I want to see that on a entry level new car😂 Whit what you pay for those headlights you can get a SH car
Those new Escalade’s. And a lot of the Tesla’s. Those Ford pick up trucks and GMC’s pick ups. You could spot them easily at a red light just from how bright their headlights are.
Better yet. In the U.S. headlights are only suppose to illuminate up to 820 feet in front of a vehicle. Just dip all headlights, no matter their height, for that distance.
Are most of the offending headlights (yes I believe some of them are overbright and more offensive than "normal" headlights) aftermarket do it yourself LED inserts or are they original equipment that came in the vehicles? Are some of these lights improperly aimed ? I believe that LED headlights can be engineered to be comparable to other headlights in appearance and glare, the color temperature and brightness probably should be regulated in which case the LED headlights could give longer life and energy savings compared to "normal" traditional incandescent and halogen incandescent headlights.
Bring it on Europe. United Stated headlghts - 150,000 candela headlights / Europe - up to 430,000 candela headlights. That auto improve things. It might be better to trust Britian. Check out the Royal Auto Club of Great Britain.
People are putting OFF ROAD LIGHTING in their headlights which is illegal and blinding and should be considered ASSAULT. If I were to have a little case of road rage caused by driver after driver blinding me with their aftermarket lighting and decide to shine my super bright flashlight in their eyes to give them a little taste of their inconsideration I'd bet I could be stopped and perhaps charged with assault so why aren't these drivers being stopped and forced off the road until they correct their assault weapons.

Today's LED lights are equivalent to yesterday's brights. 😬
When we gonna have a regulatory for those crazy headlights?
Regulate all you want but who is going to enforce this? Police? How are they supposed to determine what is and is not too bright?
Still gonna have bright headlights even if it’s regulated I could honestly care less
