It's hilarious and disappointing to me that the only reason we don't get more Slaanesh representation in Warhammer media is because as soon as anything Slaanesh is on screen, the age rating would immediately spike from PG13/M15 to R18/X.
I'm glad you mentioned chaos favours in this video, because that aspect alone is why Slaanesh is my favourite Chaos god.
As I explained to one of my friends:
Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeentch all ask you to prove yourself worthy of their blessings.
Slaanesh just throws them at you, grabs the popcorn, and watches to see if you can handle it or not.
If you can, they gain a new pawn.
If you can't, your suffering and agony fuels them and makes them more powerful.
    Either way, Slaanesh wins.

Like if they want to master the the sword, they will but all fights become dull (Lucius) or they will compose beautiful musi but be filled with a constant urge to craft something better. This ultimately causes them to have a either have a complete mental breakdown or they accept further blessings from Slannesh and its all downhill form there.

I think what ties everything about slaanesh together and what makes him a good opposite for khorne is the idea of self-gratification. Every sort of excess slaanesh's followers engage in is to indulge their own desires, and as they fall further their own desires and obsessions come to be all that matters to them. Contrast that with Khorne worship, which in its own way is a pretty strict set of values that his followers put aside whatever they might have cared about before in order to live up to. It's a pretty common theme for khorne characters to go through a loss of self and basically become more like khorne as they fall further, whereas slaanesh characters turn into twisted and depraved versions of themselves.

For Khorne, their followers always more and more blood. Blood for the blood god, skulls for the skull throne. For every life they take there’s always want more.
For slaanesh, the pursuit of pleasure and perfection is both at its peak and never, ever, EVER enough.
That’s why a cultist of khorne may tear your head off and immediately want abother, while for slaanesh, torturing you for pleasure that will never be enough

In another words, is a insidious thing, becouse it can come from anything, and come in slices
Like, take a married man, he got a nice life, a nice wife, a nice daugher, a nice sob and a nice dog
But he feels like the sex Is a bit bland and wants some better action, one say he have a dream, in that he see some things New and when wake UP, he remenber that
Them he does just that and both he and his wife enjoys the sex, sleep better and their following day is great, becouse they feel great
Them they do It again, but this time for a longer time, but the sex lasts a bit more to reach the same level If joy, same results next day: better day and better sleep
They keep doing It, but gradually the sex tales longer to yield the same pleasure, until they have a dream about doing something a little more violent to each other
The wake up, remenber and do It, the results great, but with time It is not enough
Them another dream: another small add on to the sex, the wake up, same story
Them It is not enough and the cycle repeats
Until one day, they dream about bringing the dog to the fun, same story and the dog is ok with It
Them It is not enough, them they have a dream about bringing the son and daugher to It
It Works and noé the whole family and the dog are in an orgy, the pleasure is great, until It is not enough
Then, they have a dream about more ferishes in the orgy, they wake up and try that out, It works, but some scars remain, not a big Deal and they got their pleasure, great day, great sleep
Until It is not enough and next add on leaves more and bigger scars
Them they dream about doing It with other people, with their consent of course, so they bring in close relatives and them friends, everyone enjoy It
      Until It is not enough
Them they have a dream about doing It with other people, regardless of consent
They enjoy It, the victims, not so much, some even die, they feel bad, but the next pleasure washes the guilt away, they even do some extra scarring to each other, to compensate that and fundo out that pain also brings joy
      Until It is not enough
Them they decide bring sex and pain to the dog, the son, the daughter, close relatives and close friends, becouse since they enjoyed sex, they will enjoy the pain, right ?
      Until It is not enough
      Them they include everyone else
      Until It is not enough
Flash forward, they are bring Joy to you, but all you see is a couple of maniacs that ate their dog, son, daughter, father, mother and many others whole raping and torturing them and are trying to do the same to you
For them, they are just trying to have a nice day
      Yeah 🧐

I have a theory that the birth of Slaanesh was what created Chaos as we know it today. Before Slaanesh, the Chais Gods were not referenced very much, meaning they didn’t hold much sway on the matters of the material realms. It’s likely the other Chaos Gods were more characteristic of their more “good” attributes. Khorne was about honor, Tzeentch change, and Nurgle the cycle of life. Then when Slaanesh appeared, her very birth and presence caused them all to become the extreme of the extreme of themselves. Khorne now only cares that the blood flows regardless of who it is. Tzeentch sows discord through plots and schemes, distrust and deceit. Nurgle creates eternal stagnation and rot.
Slaanesh’s birth through excess drove the other Chais Gods to be the excess of themselves. That imo makes Slaanesh the most powerful and truly evil Chaos God.

When Slannesh demolished the Eldar pantheon the big four came to power and literally consumed or imprisoned all the other gods of the warp. The notable exceptions obviously being each other, Big E, and the forces of loony toons power known as GORk & MORK! Fun bit of trivia apple autocorrect put both of those as all caps. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Craftworlds basically existed as merchant clans, traveling between the Aeldari worlds. As such, they spent more time alone in space and not on the Aeldari worlds that would grow gradually more extreme. Rather than slipping into depravity, they saw snapshots of this behavior and thus didn't take part as heavily. And being these vessels for trade between worlds, they were much more likely to escape the Birth of Slaanesh simply because they weren't planetside, where things were worst, and were more likely to be outside the central Aeldari Empire where the Eye of Terror formed.

Both Slaanesh and Khorne are a different type of nihilism. Khorne is an admittance that there is no purpose in life, therefore violence is the greatest expression of that emptiness. There is nothing but blood, and blood flows to an ironic peace for the blood god.
Meanwhile, if Khorne was a black hole of purpose, Slaanesh is a whirlpool of it. Slaanesh looks at the void and says, "more". Purpose is found in the small moments that lead to massive climaxes of pain and pleasure. And that folds onto itself more, and more, and more.
I think a lot of people forget exactly how Slaanesh was born, it wasn't the raw emotions exactly, but the desire for purpose in state of being that had one. The pleasure cults of the Eldar came from a lack of purpose, a lack of drive towards something other than the excess they would begin to have.
And that's to me what makes Slaanesh so dangerous, Slaanesh sees the person looking up at the stars, wishing for more and says "let me show you..."

Slaanesh is the one true alternative to the imperium of man.
Excess is the path to wisdom of all things.
Think of the utilitarian nature of the imperium… every man is a means to an end and no play in between.
Tell me what is man, what is art or even play in such an empire?
Luxury, art and excess are are alternatives to the utilitarian nature of that accused empire of false people.
Like art that rebels against utility in what it admits is useless so does luxury, but a cake and enjoy it when you are barely persisting on the scraps you manage? Now be mocked by those more in that means mock you for ‘not being economical enough’ ‘you could’ve bought 3 days of food for that cake’
A luxury is a luxury because of the extent you go for it and the experience you get from it. To a man in a desert a cup of tap water is a delicacy… to anyone else it’s foot wash or mouth wash… and yet where is that oh so present ‘you aren’t being economical enough’ when it comes to that? They never soak a towel and trim off the water to scrub with such little water while demanding others the opposite. A petty thing but not as petty as their denial of chaos in all its forms just petty enough to creep past that oh so pleasant vital lie that facade they keep up that they are utilized and not squandered as much as they squander and criticize others of squandering.
Play, art, excess and the Dionysian spirit all form culture the very soul of a man the same soul that the empire destroyed across stars across their own followers and citizens especially on Monarchia.
The empire of man under the emperor is by all means a culture of servitors, a culture a race that even the tyranids would look down in pity for the lack of individuality.
It’ll be better for Horus to have won and drive the imperium into the warp rather than the emperor still stand.
The only thing keeping a heart beat in that dull husk ill befit thing to call a corpse is that Guiliman is the one leading it and not the emperor.
In all seriousness this is fun to write and I hope you had fun of concern when reading, remember: pleasure and pain are both moving factors of life and the only state that isn’t a moving factor is sleep; so to be free of pleasure or pain is to be akin to sleep or dead.
Take joys in all things for joy itself is the root of excess be it pleasure or pain for joy is separate of these things and once your spirit sings and dance in both the sun and the rain you too will see nothing change with the weather or the skies.

Its exactly what you said- the horror of slaanesh lies in the fact that what they need to sustain themselves is something that will never really go away. Every sentient species, specially those who rise to power and rule over the galaxy, like the aeldari once did and humanity right now, came into being because they were ambitious and desired more and more. They were never sated with the power they had and they just kept going. its intrinsically a part of their existence. More resources, bigger armies, richer palaces, more luxuries- the list goes on. And because of this, slaanesh is just that easy to fall to. It could start from a simple attempt at self improvement and get dragged into a pit of dark and horrifying things, and you would never even notice the spiral. Of the 4, slaanesh is horrifying in a way that feels palpable to me. And that's scary.

It is definitely something that should be for teens and young adults, and to that end subtly isn't something Slaanesh's excess revels in but it can be used to get across points that aren't too outrageous for a sixteen year old to handle.

There is that one cool fan story on 1d4chan called Imber - Chapter 2 and it is about a guardsman doing a propaganda interview video for the Tau Empire about the time he spent in a Slaanesh cult and funny enough it shows how it is to be part of it without actually getting to details. Mostly that either stuff he was talking about were so scary to him that he would not elaborate or through "viewer friendly" censorship of Propaganda Departament of Tau Empire, like when he was talking about a Plauge Marine that shared with him the secret of the universe, which was censored becouse it was so wack, but what that poor block was scared about the fact that the plauge marine in question was not what he said, but that he didnt really care about it. The most slaaneshy thing in that story was sentence without any details that he banged his equivalent of sergeant and how she got a blessing in a form of an extra eye on her palm, so the first thing she did with it was poking it for that weird feeling of poking an eye on your palm and than she gouged it out.

In the Siege of Terra, the Slaanesh depiction was quite prominent. Instead of joining the disciplined siege, fulgrim and the 3rd legion got bored and instead rampaged across the enormous hives of terra, harvesting and playing with billions of humans. This also reflects why the Slaanesh role in 40k isnt as strong, war requires cool rational coordination which is boring for junkies that used to constant excessive stimulation. Slaanesh however ultimately does more damage than war and paves the way for it in the form of pleasure corruption of civilization. Bringing dowm one of the strongest factions in the setting is an insane feat. The imperium cannot experience the same cuz its under too much external threat and so cannot fall to degenerate decadence. In irl history, civs fall thru internal hedonism leading to mass inflation and inequality and them rebellion and war. So slaanesh goes first in corruption while khorne and nurgle last.

What I find curious about Slannesh, it’s the only one to have the title “Prince of Chaos”. I think there’s more behind it for why the youngest Chaos God is considered a threat to the much older three. All of them represent the Primordial Truth, Slannesh as Desire has the common and closest emotion humans have in themselves in all parts of life. Slannesh can corrupt that with ease. It’s whole androgynous form is likely a reflection of Slannesh’s own want to be everything in existence even encompassing the Chaos Gods roles themselves. They are all very frightening in every way, it just happens Slannesh has the most insidious side.

As a soul consuming dragon (I online roleplay a fair bit), what Slanesh represents is making the best of whatever situation you're in.
The perfect example of this is Death in Puss in Boots: The last Wish. What does this film show? That Death is delighting in Puss's fear. They're toying with their prey. It's not about killing Puss. It's about seeing what they're made of. Meanwhile Khorne would just kill you.
Harsh situations can quickly become intimate. The best comes from the worst. It happens in real life often enough. Would people prefer it's about death and destruction instead? People that break and learn to do better in the worst are stronger for it. That just needs fleshing out more with Slaanesh.

I agree Slaanesh is the scariest Chaos God. The reason for me is simple: it embodies excess agony, decadence and depravity. So as someone who in the past has had a fear of Hell (and sometimes still gets it) and looks back on medieval torture methods and some of the horrific things pychopaths and serial rapists have done to their victims, Slaanesh would embody the very worst of all that.
I think each chaos god does bring their own horror, but yeah Slaanesh is more than just 'oooh sexy temptation', and I kind of wish the daemons of Slaanesh had more variety because you could go in so many directions, like with Tzeentchian daemons

All of them are under Tzeech eyes because they dared to hope in the grimdark, all of them are destined to become their playthings, and to ultimately destroy everything they hoped.
And that's why i think Tentacles "all-as-planned" McTeeths is the most bleakest of the chaos gods.

Imagine yourself, after indulging and indulging in your craft, having a breath of clarity. having your eyes shocked to see your surroundings, your actions, your scarred skin. Being forced by fear, shame, and defeat to continue in your corruption instead of admitting the naked and true ruinous reality of what you have become.

I think that the relative absence of Slaanesh in the modern lore of Wh40k has also a in universe reason (besides the obvious marketing cause you mentioned). Slaanesh is the most passive of the chaos gods on the front of conquering the galaxy, destroying the Imperium etc. Slaanesh is more invested in the Great Game between the chaos gods and gaining relatively more power and pleasure for himself/herself at the expense of other gods. It's also the reason why Fulgrim isn't more active in the current timeline of the 40k. It has been illustrated in the WHFB The End Times.

@@unclesamlore In all seriousness, I always through Slaanesh was better represented in the first 2 Hellraiser movies, Event Horizon, and Videodrome than anything we see in most 40k fiction or fan fiction. They always seem to get hung up on the "sex, drugs, & rock and roll" aspects and never consider the deeper meaning and while that is nice, that's entry level stuff.
Oh sure, the "sex, drugs, & rock and roll" is why most Slaaneshy cultists join, but it's not why they stay. Just look at his/hers/its champions. Fabulous Bill want's to create the "perfect" Space Marine, but actually creates abominations both in lore and on the tabletop. Lucius wants to become the ultimate duelist and whenever someone beats and kills them, they transform into him. He becomes better. And last but not least (Slaanesh has no "least") there's Fulgrim, who was so obsessed with the of war he sold his soul to the chaos powers for ultimate perfection.
If James Workshop focused more on aspects of Slaanesh, on the hubris and arrogance and pursuit of perfection above all else and the kinds of horrible monsters it creates, then they would do gangbusters. But no, James has The Big Horny and so do most players, so Slaanesh is forever fetish fuel.

The Eldar Ranger perfecting his marksmanship, just fed Slaanesh. The Boy relishing the feeling of being da Biggest, just fed Slaanesh. Slaneesh feeds on excess and passionate, overzealous dedication to becoming the pinnacle of whatever one wishes, and any lesser emotions that lead to those things. So it stands to reason that since the Chaos Gods are themselves pinnacles of their given concepts then, like how Malal feeds upon their self-destruction and personal conflicts between each other, Slaneesh herself may feed upon the other Gods dedication to their concepts. Which basically means you could potentially purge the galaxy of all Slaneeshi followers and yet even still the existence of the other Chaos Gods may keep her sustained
And given how insidious and all-encompassing she is, the time it'll take to deal with the other Gods would be ample time for her to reseed corruption and amass her power once more, meaning she'll always inevitably return unless all others have been stopped

I find Nurgle the most potent cause he offers something that most doesn't, care. He genuinely cares about his folk's well being and in a galaxy of never ending apathy having that and control over diseases makes him the most far spread to me. Tzeentch is by far the most powerful but Nurgle is the most constant by far. To be blunt, i could get past most of the Slanesh rings bar maybe the last one, seeing Slanesh. Well, if it isn't a woman i don't care, if Slanesh doesn't even know what it wants to be why would if follow it? Nurgle on the other hand, the God is grounded, powerful, consistent and therefore ever present. Pleasure comes and goes, want decays at a point. And that decay, that inevitability is the most potent. Speaks volumes as to why Mortarion gets the most done by far. Fulgrim doesn't even do anything.

There is one entity from another fictional medium to check out who would be a interesting comparison and parallel to make to the Chaos gods when it comes to certain characteristics yet seeing how massively different they are.
One could impose a perspective of having a few similar traits and attributes as Slaanesh as in his personality's cruelty. But he would however be completely antithetically opposed to Slaanesh in everyway of his methodology and true long term goal and his free will.
He is known as the Scarlet King who's name is Khahrahk from the SCP Mythos.
He is a being who's works are more similar to Malice's agenda instead. Especially since he abhores all of creation as a intended marred existence of cosmic hypocrisy and he detest it with personal spitefulness. A painful agony which is his real motivation to see it be annihilated down to it's very foundation. And he hates his own existence as well.
If Slaanesh encountered him and ever tried to even think about attempting to influence and tempt him to her will Khahrahk would kill her immediately and declare her a pathetic disgusting parasitic existence which doesn't have the right to exist and it would be better if she and the rest of her disgusting kind were erased. And the agonies he can inflict would be worse then anything Slaanesh was ever capable of doing.

If you do I recommend checking out the Tale Dust and Blood. It is what sets the foundation and characterization Khahrahk the Scarlet King the most. What he does and the Empire he creates in the Darkness Below and his sons and lineage that does his will. Very few entities within the Tree of Knowledge can rival the Scarlet King. A fewer can make him relent. Beings like the Brothers Death and Adam El Asem the first Human of the SCP Mythos are capable of stopping the Scarlet King.
There is also some people like me who consider Khahrahk a child of He Who Made Dark. A creator entity who created the Darkness Below and the Darkness Above and the low elder gods who dwell within them and is the father of the Three Brothers Death.

I think to make Slaanesh marketable, they need to mask a hard left turn into making her more about excess in a less visceral sense. Focus more on the noise marine aspect, on the superhuman rockstars, on being obsessed with perfection. Even things like say Emperors Children who use drugs to weaken foes, noise marines who deafen and disorient enemies, psykers who specialize in overstimulating your senses to a paralyzing degree. Everything becomes too bright, too loud, to hot too cold just *too much*. Just take any concept, overdo it, and bam you have a viable Slaanesh unit.
I really believe it would be easier to go that route and leave the more gross stuff to fall into more obscure lore. Sure some people will complain but really? You’re gonna complain about less r-word?

They are amazing at how eerie and quite terrifying Chaos can be and Chaos in this series is by far the most insidious and twisted. First go for Fire Caste and leave Requiem Infernal for last and maybe after Fire Caste read Vanguard. That's the only things to keep in mind. Rest you can read at any point.

@@unclesamlore No problem. As I said. It's good to start anywhere, but Fire Caste seems like a best bet overall. Also there is another short story you MAY want to read after that called "Crown of Thorns". If you read Fire Caste and then that you will see something... interesting. Entire Dark Coil is like this. It's all connected in it's own weird ways. That's why I say leave Requiem Infernal for last. It's very close to the center of the coil.

Tzeentch and Slanesh almost dont see the storys writen becouse it start to suttle. And end up to dark.
One you just want change, you just want power to change things. And end up a tentacle crow monster.
The oter its i just want to escape reality with this party, drugs, drink, or i just want to be the best at paints. And it evolves to mania, to obsession.

That is true, idk I just wish there was more explored than just the excess and weird parts versus what goes on inside the mind of those who fall. Thank you for watching!

I’m pretty sure Event Horizon was a documentary of mankind’s first encounter with the Warp.
