HOI4: What's The Point of Monarchist Greece?

- Greece today will fall under the personal, absolute rule of George II. Following the election of 1936 the King will take the nation into a new era, the economy will be reformed and modernized, debts will be paid-off and Greece itself will find itself a new regional power of the Balkans.
Along the way we will be evaulating the Monarchist tree, to see if there is anything worth doing in it, we will explore it to see what it gives, how it gives it and how it compares to the other Hellenic trees and see if it makes the grade.

Monarchist Greece has gotten a surprising amount of requests, now having done it I understand why a little more. Bits of the ending were cut from this, they weren't the most called for so I left them behind. It's likely not the most perfect outro I could've done, but I could've talked about the focus tree for a while so at some point you do just have to cut it and finish.
This did result in me forgetting to say an idea I had for the Monarchist tree, which would be a Third Balkan War or something to do that effect where you'd team with the other Monarchies of the Balkans to do something, like taking Istanbul/Thrace of Turkey, annex Bulgaria. Etc. The idea was a Herkalion Convention esque thing. I'm not sure if it'd be the best gameplay wise so let me know what you think of it.
I think that'd be a great idea, I've always loved the Heraklion Convention mechanic and would love to see more things similar to it be implemented
I would find it cool for a Monarchist path that allowed you to install Monarchist Rebellions into the other Balkan countries, forming a faction with them and finally puppeting all the monarchies under your faction!
Love this serie, keep going with "Whats the point".
I think instead of only Metaxas getting the buff from the orthodox state sub branch i think both George II and George Mercouris (the other fascist guy) should get the buff but rename the focuses so it would be more fitting, they did that with the russian economic tree so why not here
They did it with the German tree, example is Herman goring werke being renamed to Kaiser werke
If you go communist then The Bedrock of Balkan Financial Stability is renamed to The Haven of Balkan Financial Corruption which is fucking stupid but you can't get the only good thing about non-aligned Greece.
The reason why the possible state minigame was cut out could be because of how disjointed and low in state numbers Greece is. The player with their superior intellect could easily come up with a strat that would minimise the effects of the variability.
Interesting series idea; definitely will watch more. I got a few suggestions
-Communist Canada (If you really want to go invade the US fascist is probably better anyway)
-Communist UK (You lose all your colonies and good generals for pretty much nothing)
-Francoist Spain (Not too sure if it's worth doing when the other paths are so good)
-Democratic Spain (Either you're a puppet of the USSR and gotta fight a deathwar against them or you're locked out of the big industry focuses)
-Soviet-friendly Communist China (Mao makes sense, the Social Democratic guy is fine for annexing China early, siding with the Soviets does nothing for you)
-Leftist France (I never really understood going communist France or going with Blum; you're debuffed the entire game with the Matignon Agreements albeit you get more factories from your focuses)
My defense for some of them
-Communist Canada: You get weekly manpower from officer corp and factory output from the focuses so it reduce the downside of both negative spirit canada have instead of only the manpower issue with the fascist
-Francoist Spain: Best path economically if you go with the allies and also easiest spanish civil war since you only have to deal with the anarchist and republican
-Soviet aligned China: It removes aftermath of the civil war faster and also bubble zest has made a video of him playing the path so it's will be kinda a repeat
Commie france is great you get non agression pact when you join soviet's faction so theres time to build up until 41
Didn't know he already did one of the China path.
I know Francoist gets rid of the economic stuff really quickly but arguably I think it's the least appealing path for the political right side of the Spanish tree. Falangist gets some cool stuff and you get to go back to the Americas and larp a little; Carlists and Crusade Against Democracy is just busted.
Same with Canada, I meant it more as in terms of later-game there's not a whole lot to it besides the factory output and access to the officer corps. The tree itself doesn't give you a lot.

Soviet aligned China has one benefit, you can join the Comintern extremely early and instead of relying on yourself or united China front to win against Japan, you can immediately call Russia in to assist you and help you establish Red China.
Russia will never claim any territory so you can easily annex all your land during the peace conference.
the thing that annoys me is if you tell the AI to go Monarchist Greece or Portugal they don't know how to fight their civil wars and immediately loose, which defeats the point of having the choice selection in the AI focus selection

i know the macedonian empire is hard but thats why only like a few youtubers have done it. if youre up to it, i would love to see a video on macedonian empire. ive only seen that bittersteel has done a video on it and spaniard did one as well but hes privated his videos or taken them down or something as they are now there anymore

can we just redo all of the battle for the Bosporus trees seriously whats with that dlc and bad trees
they are all shit to be honest. Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece are all impossible to play unless you want to exploit, Cheese, and you also must be a pro basically. Don't even get me started on their BS achievements and formables.
The Greek and Bulgarian trees are very good in my opinion. Haven’t played Turkey yet.

They're fine, just some paths need a rework, not the entire tree. Bulgaria seems to be good enough, greece needs a rework for the right paths and turkey needs a huge reorder because its a clusterfuck

Personally, I think there is one fun thing to do as non aligned Greece. Because Greece is built towards defense, it’s quite fun to up the power on Italy and Germany and try to survive them. I’ve actually managed it where I buffer Germany and Italy all the way and every country around me had capitulated to the Germans and Italians yet I hadn’t even lost a single Provence. However when I do this I never use the king. I always go metaxas cuz his buffs are actually really nice. Even if it takes like six focuses to get them all 😂
I think the greece focus tree will be mutch better if the byzantist path was down the monarchist part, putting the king as a basileus again, getting rid of that fascist branch and letting it exclusively for the venizelist, wich also need something more like giving you options to fortify against italy and enosis with cyprus per example (and that you ANNEX cyprus, not puppet them). In the communist path they need to make all that 70 days focuses before changing to communism 35 days long, then you could have a non stalinist path, where you can bring revolution to the balkans and also complete the megali idea in the process. In the stalinist path, maybe a cordinated invasion of turkey with the soviets. And the other path with metaxas and then the other guy i think is ok as it is, maybe they should fix the macedonian empire cores.
These are some good ideas, if I knew how to make hoi4 mods I'd make this into a revamped Greece mod
@@samuel.8250 I dont know to much about modding, but i know something. Actually i'm working in a mod that makes the ottoman empire less painful to create. When i finish that maybe i'll give it a try.
In my games achieving Enosis always gave me direct control of Cyprus, did they change that in a recent patch?
Enosis does have Greece annexing Cyprus
Monarchist greece is honestly pretty fun ngl but what it lacks is a SIMPLE formidable due to the fact that you basically have to be at war with the entire world to get the formable
Greece has an ill- and hastily made focus tree which requires rework.
1) Historical path (Metaxas) is well made and needs no actual focus, with the only exception being when Greece capitulates , turns into puppet state(although difficult to depict in game because of the triple occupation)
2) Venizelist part is really good and lacks only the focus of uniting cyprus, or at least a decision if Greece is in the allies to demand cyprus
3) Monarchist part is really weak and pointless , instead byzantium should be formed through it , which is more realistic
4) Anatolian fascist part is hilarious and useless since Greece does not need 2 fascist paths and monarchy forming byzantium
5) The other fascist part also makes no sense. Mercouris was just a minor politician and actually no fascist organization in Greece was strong or popular at the time, even though there were plenty. What would make more sense is to install a friendly axis government having Ioannis Rallis as its head (one of the occupational prime ministers) with focuses being reclaiming the lands from bulgaria (which bulgaria conquers if greece capitulates or joining the same faction) and alternative historical focus of plan Alexandros (secret plan of Greece attacking turkey being backed by Germany)
Finally , the Macedonian empire decision is really dumb and useless, since only veteran players can form it. What would make more sense is to form it after Byzantium has been formed (and would create the most OP formable in the world ofc)
I think I read somewhere that a general gives 25% of his XP to his field marshal, so in theory a lone general indeed gains traits faster

communnist country now can have theoratically infinite manpower from the officer corp so you have both manpower from the officer corp and factory output from the communist tree which canada really need with the great depression and conscription crisis national spirit

Also for the Greek focus, most players don't know how to replace Metaxas with Emmanouil Tsouderos though it is probably isn't worth it. The benefit is you can befriend Republicans which Metaxas can't.

I guess the only point of monarchist Greece is to form Monarchist Macedonia.
I wish we could have Monarchist Byzantium. Currently it's only possible with commands.
Top tip:
Disband your military immediately and train a single cavalry decision.
Both sides in the cival war take half the military each. THis means the other side won't have any troops and you win instantly.
Idea for a challenge if your up for it, form macedonia as monarchist greece with the kaiser ONLY
The Schachtplan gave exlusive rights to Greek raw materials to Germany, so to "go with Britain", Greece would presumably have to open up their markets for investment again.

the political tree 's not just a bit meh, it's a shame.
Like the fact the devs put more effort into a bonkers alt-hist Byzantium resurgence and not into a fleshed out republican or non aligned paths is half-assed. The man behind this tree read little about Greek political history and cared even less, or he wasn't payed enough idk. I had some fun playing Byzantium, it's op af but it's quite dumb when you think about it. The Greeks were not down for a new Byzantium whatsoever. Hell, they didn't even see it as Greek state.
We actually do see Byzantium as the Medieval Greece. Post Emperor Heraclius, the Eastern Roman Empire was established as a predominately Hellenic Empire and not Western Roman(Italian). This why Rhomaios(Greek for Roman) was equal to saying Greek.
Thing is, during the Interwar period, in particular if Venizelos and his Party were in power, no one would want a revival of the full Empire as you have correctly mentioned. They would want the Great Greece of the two Continents as was called, aka the Megali Idea-which is correctly represented in the Greek Tree but only for the Republicans.
The ''Byzantine'' Fascist Leader of EEE, while indeed a Greek from Smyrna, irl did not even care for Byzantium. If anything, he was closer to the nazi anti-semetic ideas and the EEE collaborated with the nazis. Would make more sense if he was part of the fascist tree as the option between him and Metaxas and Makris was the leader should Germany puppet Greece(Fate of Greece focus).
Honestly, if they wanted a fascist Byzantine path for the sake of Adolphus the 1st meme, they should have done with King George II taking command from the Republicans in the Megali Idea path, maybe a coup or a civil war.

Grinding traits has nothing to do with orders. Its just about the battles themselves. The only trait that is to do with battle planning is organizer.
I think the most pointless path is either interventionist Hungary (just go fascist king or austria-hungary), puppeted Czechoslovakia, or puppet baltics
For the Communist tree I think it would be nice if instead of causing a coup at Yugoslavia, you get some buffs for the boost ideology mission and being able to join the civil wars you caused in order to strip Germany of its future allies like Romania, Hungary maybe even Italy with you are fast enough and if you gather enough allies early on. Also the "Depose the reactionaries" focus that turns you communist should need only one of the line of focuses just like the democratic one since taking all six focuses takes a lot.
Its a shame Greece got the worst focus tree from BFB

Tldr: This focus tree is too long, expansion is tiresome and it has shoehorned in Ottoman path.
I'm not doing it, I fail to see how a Turkey video would go.

About Enosis in the democratic path. It could be done during the convention. When you have the British asking for the Armenian protectorate, you could say no, agree, or a third option now where you say yes in exchange for Cyprus. If in BBA they have a path in which Britain gives up British Somaliland and Malta and France Djibuti and Tunis to Italy, it should be no problem for something similar to happen here.
If it were my choice, I’d put enosis and the option to take Rhodes from Italy and put them behind decisions unlocked at the end of the industry tree. Furthermore I feel like there should be a theocratic path and a handful more focuses, maybe reorganize it so all paths can to the megali convention, then go to war with turkey, compensate the Anatolian fascist/sorta democratic tree with more in depth build up, then after you form greater Greece or Byzantium (same sort of mutually exclusive thing as greater Italy vs Rome) you have a few more focuses to defend your gains

If you are talking about Fascist-Monarchist Hungary then it is simply a better Fascist path tbh. you get 120 PP plus 10% Stability A new ruler, and you are stronger than Horthy's path. really that is about it
