The sad thing is that the fan base pretty much agreed that Henry was a great choice for Superman. The people who dislike it object to the film they built around him. Think Pierce Brosnan as Bond, but in the terrible Die Another Day installment.
Henry deserved *WAY* better. He was so up for this role and the studio kept stepping on rakes and smashing themselves in the face. They wanted to shake-and-bake their way to an Avengers movie without taking the time and care to develop each character on their own, make the audience want more of them. It was just frustrating to watch when great talent was RIGHT THERE.
Henry Cavill is the modern Superman, he looks exactly the same as the modern comics. Hey Meg! Over here! 54:25 one of the reasons I like this movie: Sometimes we don't see our own potential, but the people who truly care and love us can see it, Jonathan Kent saw it and was confident about it even though Kal-El didn't.
Not just that. The title "Man of Steel" implies that there is a human among us who is not really human and is as strong as steel...god among men if you will. It's not like seeing him as an alien, rather as a human but the strongest among humans. It was originally titled "Superman: Man of Steel" before the final official title was revealed.
@@AshrafAnamand it was also the title of a limited superman comic retcon origin story qritten by tge great John Byrne in the mid 80s. Some of this story's beats come from that story line which deviates from the silver age Superman origin which the 1978 donner film reinterpreted as a kind of reaction to 1970s modernity.
Also calling the film Man of Steel rather than Superman shows very very clearly that the character isn't yet fully formed as Superman. It's an origin story. He's not yet the hero that we all know from pop culture. He is a fledgling hero in the making. A man of steel, but not yet a hero worthy of our adoration. But that should have come next. Sadly it didn't.
I loved this film. And the soundtracks were awesome, especially "Flight" and "What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving the World?". Hans Zimmer did a wonderful job.
50:38- Exactly. I'm not even mad at Zod. Clark was a natural birth. Zod was genetically bred to be this way. His entire purpose in life is to be like THIS. Protect Krypton's legacy.
Glad to see you reacted to this. I wasn't really much of a Superman fan until I watched this movie. I absolutely loved it. Might be one of my top 3 favourite superhero films.

This film in the theater was absolutely insane! The sound design, soundtrack and special effects were pure goosebumps. A masterpiece through and through
@@passionsquietrage Snyder not understanding the characters he was given is the far bigger issue of why they failed sure WB should’ve kept their hands off but most of the audience thought these movies where mid which they where the best movie made by WB was WW and aqua man that’s why they got sequels they where good movies that did well. Funny enough Snyder didn’t get his hands on those two.
I loved it myself, I loved the score, I loved the cinematography and design of Kryptonian culture. Cavill was perfectly cast as Clark, and I enjoyed Russell Crowe as Jor-El immensely.
I’ve always liked Superman from afar throughout my life (I’m 41) but this movie from the first teaser made me a big fan! Henry Cavill will always be my Superman and I’m glad that I’ll always have my Snyder trilogy.
We're so connected i was literally in depression when i heard cavil is not coming back my life was so downhill at that time man of steel is my favourite movie of all time the dad conversations in this movie made me the good person i am today be good no matter what its not old fashioned
This was the first Superman movie I saw in theaters. I really liked it. It's a shame that Zack Snyder's DC Extended Universe ended up not really panning out, but it was good while it lasted, I think. And I'm excited to see what James Gunn has in store for the future of DC. That said, I'm REALLY interested to see Meg's reaction to Batman vs Superman, especially their take on Lex Luthor...
Followed you since your Mass Effect playthrough. I grew up watching the 1st 2 iconic Christopher Reeve’s Superman films. I’m grateful Henry Cavill, Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, David. S. Goyer and Hans Zimmer were able to give me my favourite iteration of the character. Particularly valued the relationship between Clark and his parents. Highlighting the Kent’s concern about losing Clark and not pressuring him allowing him to be the man he eventually becomes. Will never understand why some people can’t accept people enjoy things they dislike. Still can’t get my head around the fact people gave you grief for choosing the correct (canonical) ending in Mass Effect 3.
Growing up as a child my first experience with Superman were the first three movies which my dad loved as a huge Superman fan, then came Superman Returns and some of my dad's old comics and I fell in love with Superman. So when Man Of Steel came out I was spellbound, Henry was amazing on screen and many of the scenes reminded me of some of my comics and I was so excited for a sequel. Fun Fact: This movie was also how I introduced my sister to Superman
One of the reasons why you liked the music is because of Hans Zimmer. He did the music for the film along with Junkie XL and a few other musicians. Its among some of my favorites. The Man of Steel suite being a good example. Its like over 20 something minutes of musical awesomeness. The choirs they had in this are so sublime!
There's some explanation in the other comments, but I'll offer a brief one as well about the rise, fall, and rise of the Synderverse. DC's Superhero brand was springing out of Nolan's Batman, which was a phenomenon; but Marvel was raking in the dough like crazy by making their heroes a lifestyle brand. The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Avengers (2012) came out in the same year, but kids weren't begging their parents for backpacks with Tom Hardy's Bane or Christian Bale's Batman on them in 2013. And when Man of Steel came out in 2013, it was very much informed tonally by the Dark Knight trilogy. You can feel the weight, and the intentional maturity; fundamentally, it's more action/drama than action/comedy. So when Man of Steel didn't blow Avengers out of the water, Warner Brothers scrambled, and studio interferance came down to restrain Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (starting with them insisting to have 'Batman Vs Superman' stuffed in the title somewhere). Fans were, to put it mildly, divided by its quality of storytelling. By the time we got to Suicide Squad (2016) and Justice League (2017), it was clear Warner Brothers was trying to inject more color, comedy, and lifestyle vivacity into their brand. They weren't keen on epic dramas; they wanted a money-printing, ever expanding universe. And they were trying to do it off the back of Man of Steel, the tone of which did not lend to that at all. A trainwreck ensued. Later, we got the Batman Vs Superman 'Ultimate Edition', restored with much more of Zack's initial vision for the movie and commitment to that tone. Fans are not at all divided on that being far superior to the theatrical release. We'll have to wait for you to see Zack Snyder's Justice League, but the story of how that came to be is a genuine milestone moment in cinema history. It begins with DC fans feeling robbed and confused after the Justice League theatrical release, introduces rumors of an all-but-complete version of the Justice League movie that was so different it was elementally another movie, and ends with a fan campaign that raised awareness of demand for that movie, as well as $600,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The fact that a modern studio listened and even bankrolled the Snydercut, even experimentally, and exposed for the first time this dramatic, side-by-side comparison of Director Versus Studio visions, has never been done before. The vindication was so sweet I can't describe it; but in the aftermath, Warner Brothers has struggled with nailing what kind of tone fans want, what is most profitable longterm for the shareholders, and how to please a fanbase that is so divided between blaming Snyder and Cavill or exalting them. If you continue to watch the DCEU movies after ZSJL, you'll be able to see and intuit the awkwardness and vascillation about what is to be done, exactly, with this particular Superman. The killing blow came in late 2022. Cavill had been doing small cameos in other superhero movies and interviews about how he was hoping to do more work as Superman. On October 25 2022, he released a video on Twitter telling fans that he had been given the green light, and that he would indeed be returning to the big screen as Superman. And then, on December 14, he released post on Twitter explaining that this wouldn't be the case after all - he graciously talked about how his time to wear the cape was over and he looked forward to seeing what came after. The whiplash of these two announcements within weeks of each other has so badly damaged many fan's trust of the Warner Brothers DC brand that it's difficult to tell if it will ever recover. Looking forward to your reactions to the rest of the DCEU; even the questionable stuff. Expecially interested in how you approach the mismatched twins, Justice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League. The traditionally accepted path for reactors seems to be to watch the Snydercut, and forget the cinematic release exists. That's probably the purest way to experience the story. But if you want to experience it the way fans did, and if you want to react no only to the story but to the fascinating comparison of the two versions, you may wish to watch the Cinematic version first, make your best guesses about what might have been cut, or altered, or reshot... and then watch Zack Snyder's Justice League to see how right you were. It might sell fewer backpacks than Avengers, but Zack Snyder's Justice League is a unique phenomenon in cinema history.
If im not mistaken I think christopher Nolan was a producer of Man of Steel. Man.. What could of been. We could of had a dark and real themed cinematic DC universe. what could of been...

I liked it much more than the theatrical version.
@@fabiobpf2544 I agree that the theatrical version could have been a little better and I enjoyed the Snyder Cut. However, I don't think the theatrical version was that bad.
I love Henry as Superman and this film was fantastic. I love the little things if you know how strong Superman is, that they touch on. Like the Handcuffs that he breaks. He doesn't force them, he just casually moves his hands like someone is talking with their hands. It wasn't a struggle to break them. Just little details.
I'm so glad this movie made you feel the same way it made me feel, some of these scenes just OOZE love for Superman...and that final scene with Jonathan and Martha looking at Clark? A pure labor of love
I actually really like this movie, as a fan I did enjoy it, but if you ask me which Superman I prefer, I definitely choose Christopher Reeves for a couple of reasons 25:42 the first flight is awesome 👍 45:32 Jor-El is a scientist as a point of fact 49:47 that is his nickname, also "the guy in blue" and "Sups" as well, is something that is being going since his conception (1938)
But he knew the codex wasn't on Mars because the beacon Clark activated by accident was on Earth. The Kryptonian race couldn't be restored without the codex.
Say what you will about Man Of Steel (I personally love it), but I think everyone agrees that Hans Zimmer's score is masterful. Gets me emotional every time
@@caliginousmoira8565 I'd also prefer the Elfman theme be used for all Batmans. I couldn't hum any of the others if my life depended on it (except for the TV theme).
6:04 - That shattered moon is one of those really solid, subtle Easter Eggs that let you know that the people who made this movie actually cared about these characters and this universe. In the comics, there was a Kryptonian scientist named Jax-Ur who was sentenced to the Phantom Zone for destroying the inhabited Kryptonian moon, Wegthor, while experimenting with a nuclear warhead equipped rocket. Presumably, he was in the Phantom Zone when Zod's insurgents are sentenced there, and later, he is with them when they escape. He's the scientist that finds out where the Kryptonian Codex ACTUALLY is (he takes Clark's blood).
I fell out of love with the story a little more in each passing movie, but you aren't going to have Batman V Superman Trailer #2 deflate all of that hype for you like it did for everyone else. It was a crazy time. It's not any one aspect over another, but... I mean. They marketed Man of Steel with a Gillette sponsorship, and there were all of these little ads asking different celebrities "How does the Man of Steel shave?" and in five years, there was mustache-gate, because this dude was filming another movie and that movie contractually prohibited him from shaving a particularly walrus-y mustache that ultimately had to be CGI'd out of the reshoots. It is nightmare fuel.
Henry will forever be my Superman. Don’t let anyone convince you not to love this iteration of the character. As a modern/realistic take on Kal-el/Clark and his relationship with the world and who he is and wants to be, nothing compares to Man of Steel. Absolute masterpiece.
Batfleck and Cavill are the best interpretations of Superman and Batman IMO. Zack Snyders vision should be completed. BvS ultimate edition is a direct sequel, and Zack Snyders Justice League is amazing, all 3 of these movies are my fav comic book movies. I'm subbed let's watch
I think the term you meant to say was Eugenics not Epigenetics Also, a lot of people really have a problem with how Jon dies. My take on it - as a father - is this: his main priorities have been 2 things his wife and his son. By telling Clark to take his mother and not help his father, Jon makes sure his wife is safe by being with Clark, and his son is protected by not exposing his powers which are still very unrefined at this point. He was simply being a dad by making sure his family was safe.
The argument I always here is that he's fast enough that he could save John without being seen, but for all we know he hadn't learned to run that fast just yet, but I think it's fine I don't have an issue with how they killed him off
@@Werewolf914idk how that argument is even remotely valid in people’s minds, clearly Clark isn’t in control of his powers yet, and people wanted him to just speed through and save his dad ? 99% chance he messes up and his dad’s spine ends up 50 miles south
I agree with this. While it was a different take on his death(instead of the usual heart attack), it does make sense. Clark's powers might have gone out of control, and someone might have seen him using them. So Johnathan sacrificed himself to save both Martha and Clark.
There's a lot about this film that frustrates me. Especially how out of character everyone feels. But the scene with Clark getting overwhelmed by his powers at school is incredible. And I like Zod's line about being created for a single purpose he can no longer fulfill. The movie is worth it just for those two scenes.
16:00 I would also add that this goes back to the old saying nurture over nature. True, Kal is generaly a good kid, but because of the love he was surrounded by he grew into the man that he is today. Its the whole Homelander thing. If he was raised by a loving family he could have turned out just like Kal but since he wasn't and his only feeling of safety and power came from his powers he turned into a monster. You could argue with the injustice story line but that was a whole different kind of trauma and self guilty.
Also, the biggest plothole is that the World Engine could have just as easily Kryptoformed Mars or Venus. There was absolutely no need for Zod trying to destroy Earth except to give the movie a distinct villain.
Zod knew the codex wasn't on Mars though, he followed the beacon Clark activated by accident to Earth. The Kryptonians were a race of conquerers, so going after an uninhabited planet wouldn't have made sense. So not a plothole.
That's not a plot hole, scientifically you can't terra form a planet that has no living creatures on it. You can only terra form a planet with life in it.
I had the pleasure of meeting Zack Snyder and telling him how much this version of Superman means to me. He outlined how he doesn’t necessarily perceive this version of Clark as “dark”, but just real. He has problems and dilemmas that don’t have easy answers. I think it works as a different interpretation of an iconography and story that has been so engrained in culture. I find it funny how Batman has been allowed so much reinterpretation but Superman somehow isn’t afforded the same experimentation.
@@AshrafAnam Manchester Black : You think that's it? It's not over, you poncy twit. If you think I'll just go to jail and rot, you're living in a dream world! Superman : Good. Dreams save us. And on my soul, I swear that until my dream of a world where dignity, honor and justice are the reality we all share, I'll never stop fighting. Ever. Superman is not meant to be “realistic” he’s a man who can fly and shoot lasers from his eye for christ sake. Realism went out the window a long time ago. He’s supposed to represent the best version of what the world could be and a strong guy who could fix the most overwhelming problems.
Dan DiDio asked Garth Ennis to write Superman back in 2016 precisely because "the problem with everyone writing Superman is they all revert to being five". Snyder similarly doesn't see Clark from the lens of a five-yr-old in need of an infallible dad that must never be questioned, made to doubt, and should have all the answers for everything everywhere. Clark isn't a dark character and Man of Steel isn't a dark movie, it's just one that respects the character as he exists in the modern world and doesn't view him as a stand-in for something to worship in place of the Old Testament God.
From my experience people who throw words around like "dark", "light", "hope" in relationship to Superman and how he "must" be often times don't have the words to do articulate what they really think. I always get the impression that what they really want is comfort, not hope. Those are very different things. To me, Man of Steel is comforting because I see person who I identify with overcome very difficult, very realistic odds despite his own imperfections. For other people who are more inconsolable, they need to be tricked into believing everything will be ok by concocting a situation where nothing bad could have ever happened. This, I believe is the real issue.
41:13 Mark! Hmm. "Earthling Human" for clarification. The Kryptonians are their planet's version of Humanity there. Planet Nirn has a variety of Humans too! 😊
I agree Clark not saving his Dad was a bit silly, but if you think about it logically it’s a stretch the movie mates to emphasize the point that the world WILL change once they know about him. You have to admit, Clark is still a bit immature in that instance in the way he’s arguing with his parents how a normal teenager would, which reinforces the fact that he’s still a bit young and naïve and not ready to go out into the world and show them what he can do just yet. His father knew this, but it still makes it all the more painful that something like that happened. Even in the comics, John’s Kent’s death is incredibly impactful, as he dies of a heart attack, maybe the ONLY thing Clark couldn’t have prevented with all his abilities and powers. It showed that at the end of the day as powerful as he is, in some ways, he’s still not God.
This is my favorite movie, it just makes me sad how ahead of its time it was. If this had come out a decade later, it would’ve been renowned and actually gotten a proper sequel. It also just straight up still looks better than movies today
You know what, actor Christopher Meloni, who plays Colonel Nathan Hardy, also played baby Kal-El during his plane ride landed and found the Kent family on a Kansas farm in the film Superman I, 1978.
I like both the Heny Caval's & Christopher Reeve's Superman. George Reeves, Dean Cain & Brandon Routh were great Sumermen as well. I’ll wait another 10 yrs for this movie to be appreciated. It got sht from the critics for no reason other than “superman destroyed the whole city while trying to save it” while other movies do the same… im glad i got to see this movie at the movies. The score was pretty cool and seeing superman saving his mom got everyone hyped in the theater. Good times
My first time getting into superman was when he died in the comics. That was one hell of a battle over 5 comics. I remember my buddy as a kid had superman 75 (his death) in a glass case I was 9 and jealous as i was a huge comic fan (and still am) next year (around fall 1993) I found the death issue, a first print newstand edition, at a farmers market. The vender was willing to sell it to me for $5.00 although it went for $10.00 but informed he had to leave soon. so I ran all over that place and found grandpa and got my $5.00 and ran back to him to get it. That started my interest in him and it continues today.
I'm more bothered by a Jonathan Kent that suggests that maybe Clark should let people die than Superman killing Zod. I much prefer the Jonathan Kent of the '78 film who tells Clark that he's here for a reason.

While I do really like Henry as Superman and I respect ur opinion I gotta say that for me personally, the perfect modern Superman is Tyler Hoechlin. He embodies everything I love about Superman while also bringing in new stuff by focusing on Superman as a father. Having great writing also helps.
Love the reaction and I love this movie and most of the movies in this universe! The whole “he doesn’t smile enough” is such a weird complaint from people who just didn’t like the tone of the movie. It doesn’t get much more Superman than a kid trying to do the right thing by secretly saving people as a child till his 20s. Henry for me was the best Superman.

1:07:39 Mark! I would never refer to stuff I like as "sh*t" and why do people use that term when "stuff" is the better option? Is it because there's a whole generation of people that now forever associate that word with a magazine title? 🤔 Or is it because they weren't raised on a farm/ranch on which you were warned not to step on it or in it, but if you did, clean your shoes, boots, or bare feet off with the water hose before entering the house! That dry "cow patties" and "meadow muffins" when tossed up high, was a rural person's skeet shooting! That plinkers shoot it, while sitting on front porches, because that's one way to kill flies and get target practice at the same time! 😅
39:31 Mark! The house can be restored much easier than the classic truck can be! 😮 It would still be a challenge for either "Counting Cars", "American Restoration" "American Pickers" and "All-Girls Garage"! (I miss being able to view those series.) 😢😮
59:40 Honestly Meg, there's a ton of factors that happened, but at the core was the previous heads at DC/Warner Brothers were desperate to start their own Comic Film Universe to compete with Marvel Studios, especially since they were coming off of the Dark Knight Trilogy. They hired Zack Snyder to kick start the DCEU with Man of Steel, and he had an entire RoadMap painted out, collaborative plans with other Directors like Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and James Wan (Aquaman), plans to include the Green Lanterns, etc. However, Man of Steel didn't pull in Box Office numbers like Pre Endgame MCU did, and fans/critics were critical of a Comic film, and a Superman film on top of that, that was more thought provoking, darker and not along the MCU's tried and true methods of simple formula and light humor. It didn't help that last time there was a Live Action Superman was Christopher Reeve, and people kept unfairly comparing Henry's Superman to Reeves, especially considering the modern times and eras of both. So, following MOS, Warner Brothers started to interfere alot more with the projects instead of trusting the Directors, Cast and Crew with it. Suicide Squad 1 and Batman vs Superman were examples of studio interference behind the scenes. And as studios like Fox proved with the Fantastic Four reboot or Kathleen Kennedy with Star Wars (years later) its never a good thing. When Justice League was in mid production, Zack Snyder had to leave production because his family suffered a terrible tragedy, his daughter Autumn unfortunately passed away, having took her own life. When Zack left, WB hired Joss Whedon because of the jobs he did for Marvel for Avengers 1 and Age of Ultron. However, they cut like 90 percent of the material Zack had already shot for JL, and Whedon made everyone's lives on set a living hell, including but not limited to threatening and harassing Gal Gadot, reshoots and forced crude humor, racist behavior to Ray Fisher etc. but Warner Bros still kept Zack Snyder's name on the Whedon cut as a scapegoat. And then their version of Justice League was the ungodly dumpster fire we were all subjected to as fans :( After Discovery had purchased Warner Bros, they knew too much damage had been done to the franchise by the previous Heads and people like Joss Whedon. James Gunn, who directed Suicide Squad 2 and as you know all the Guardians of the Galaxy Films, was hired on to create the new DCU. However, after the mess of Josstice League, and the fact that all the big cast members like Henry, Ben, Gal etc. were all on team Zack, WB decided to get rid of them all. Henry being one of the first to pay the Studio's mistakes. Even though people like the Rock (Black Adam) fought tooth and nail to get Henry back, the damage was done, and James Gunn, as much as we don't want him too, is basically having to wipe the slate clean with his new DCU. Also it didn't help that there was public backlash against actors like Ezra Miller and Amber Heard, for their various reasons. But yea, that's basically it, although certain actors are carrying over into the new DCU, Peacemaker and Blue Beetle are also able to fit into either continuity. The new heads of DC decided that, after the merger, we the fans and Zack especially, were owed the proper cut of Justice League, so after over 4 years of fighting for it, and with the previous heads of DC saying "There's no Snyder Cut", "You'll never see it" and "Joss Whedon's JL is the definitive version" we were given the proper Team Up, at least before everything changes. There's a lot more shit behind the scenes I didn't mention, but yea that's basically the long and short of it.
Well, there was no Snyder cut without spending another $30 million first. MOS certainly provoked a lot of thought in me. But they probably weren't the ones you're thinking of.
@TheTodd5761 you're right, my mistake. However, the comparisons to Christopher Reeves were still something that Henry's Superman was subjected to, unfairly.
I would correct in the part about MoS not making the money. It became the most successful Superman movie at the box office and did way more than any of the Marvel movies of Phase One. And it was WB that wanted to double down with the darker themes too. It was until later that they felt the movie was too long that they started to wanting more changes (they also wanted stupid changes on MoS but Nolan helped Snyder to fight back and not to have his cut) and it wasn't until the movie came out and critics happened because of the tone and the weird rhythm that they panicked and wanted many changes with Suicide Squad, WW and JL.
The theatrical version of JL isn't that bad, but it could have been a little better. WB should have just Snyder do his thing and they would have made money. One of many reasons the studio should never be involved in anything past financing and distributing the movie.
1:06:37 - I agree. It felt more grounded. Seeing Clark struggle when his powers first manifested really gave you a better understanding of how challenging his life would have been.
55:38 Mark! At least she won't be tossing herself out of windows and into Niagara Falls to prove that CK and Superman are the same person! In one long run of the comics, he developed a knack for being able to save LL from her own hijinks despite what else he was doing! You saw a sample of that in CR's second "Superman" movie! 😊
I disagree honestly, it's a good movie but this Superman doesn't have that inner positivity that every other Superman has. It's like if Batman and Superman were both dark and brooding or alternatively if both were eternally cheerful. There's no contrast, the bit that makes it interesting in my mind. Henry Cavill is the perfect person to play Superman but he never got the right script.
He got the right script. They didn't let it play out to evolve into the hopeful version. You realize that there are different interactions of Superman. We already got the happy go lucky Superman's. Just like the bat movie gave us the detective batman.
Thumb Up #738! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️ Notes: I was going to watch "Liz XP" play "Skyrim" until the notification for this video popped up! Now unless I fall asleep again, I may view her video now, though I may also see "Man of Steel" via "Netflix" on this smartphone. If so, that will be a first for me. My best friend got to meet Helen Slater in person at a "Trek Expo" and I've been miffed ever since then, that I missed out on the opportunity! 😢 The Multiverse has never confused me, so I was annoyed that the people who were so confused, got their way when "The Crisis on Infinite Earths" happened! I also wrote letters in protest of Supergirl's death and I was so happy when it was eventually undone by revealing it was a shape-shifting entity! Or something like that. 🤔 The live-action "Krypton" gives us the first live-action versions of "Adam Strange" and "Lobo"! But it is the first "DC" series of those that I've seen to disappoint me! 😞 The more recent series "Naomi" became the second one but only because it didn't last long enough for her to meet her idol, Superman! Oh! And the "HBO" series version of "The Watchmen" has a great story to tell, but not enough budget for a CGI "Doctor Manhattan" and so instead we get two different actors, one White and one Black, in very bad blue body paint jobs! 🎨 Not impressive in a good way at all! They looked like followers of "Blue Man Group" if said followers were Nudists! Meanwhile the good-looking gals kept their clothes on! 😁 That's my long way of saying that I enjoyed most of the "DC" movies and series that I've seen, be they live-action or not, in color or not. In the 1966 movie "Modesty Blaise", she converts some items from her purse into a small bow and arrow set! For safety's sake her arrow of course isn't really going to hit her intended target and to prove it, we see it go over the bridge as the stuntman pulls an arrow up and holds it to his chest, before falling onto the safety pad below! That's too funny and she's too sexy-cute, for me to dislike her one movie! Her comics were published in the UK and over here by "DC"! 😎 So I like each version of the "DCEU" movies that I've seen! 😊
Im glad you liked this movie. Personally, I think this is a fairly good Superman movie, though I wouldn't call it my favourite Superman movie, as I do have a few critiques here and there regarding the depiction of Clark and Superman's scurried morals, as well as characters like Jonathan Kent and his bizarre death in this movie but those are just my criticisms despite it truly being a well-made movie, and though Zack Snyder at the time didn't really understand Superman and had more jaded, cynical opinion on the character back in 2013, I cannot deny that his style of direction was really epic and grand which I admire. Henry Cavill was a perfect cast to play Clark and Superman. He really understands the character, and it is ultimately a huge shame that we won't be seeing him Superman again and both he and the character deserved better treatment than what they received from the ignorance of WB executives. Zod isn't my favourite Superman villain, not even in my top 15. Still, Micheal Shannon's performance as this take on Zod was really great as you felt how misguided he was and how you understood his reasoning. However, his impatience was his hubris, and even after the DCEU failed he still was probably the best villain in this short-lived cinematic universe (which isn't saying much) at least before they reboot with James Gunn's upcoming DCU. BTW I CANNOT WAIT to see what James Gunn delivers with his upcoming take on Superman in Superman: Legacy (2025) as everything Ive heard, plus the fantastic castings and production team so far it seems like he might give us the best Superman movie to date
Batman v. Superman can be considered as Man of Steel 2. You will get what you want. Please watch the extended cut, you will appreciate it a lot. The next DC movies all are in the same timeline ( to a point) , can't remember the order but release order would be safe. Great reaction!
There is a second one. Batman v Superman is the sequel and the second-best Superman movie. You'll understand Pa Kent's fears better when watching that movie.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but aside from the 1st Christopher reeve superman move, this is probably one of the best superman films out there. Enjoy meg! 😊
@@MegMageReactshey Meg, people who hate this movie don't hate Henry Cavill. They hate the interpretation that Zack Snyder did of Superman. Because Superman is not suposed to be grim and dark, he's suposed to be hope and light and full of life. Because if you have read Superman, you know this movie and Zack Snyder doesn't really understand Superman. I would recomend the Show Superman and Lois , that has The BEST Superman interpretation since Christopher Reeve.
Please, please watch Smallville!!! It's one of if not my favorite show of all time and it is great. Though, like all shows, it has its ups and downs about it but it is worth it all. If you do watch it please react to it on your channel. Also, Michael Rosenbaum is my favorite version of Lex Luthor and Tom Welling is my favorite version of Clark/Superman. But then again I love Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill as Superman too.
This movie stands the test of time. A truly different type of Superman film and Zack Snyder knew what he was doing. He had his own vision of what a modernized Kal-El would be and they had nailed it. It’s a shame the higher ups at Warner Bros were only interested in making a profit and not allowing Snyder to continue. Although we’ll never again see a sequel for this movie, Batman v Superman is more of a part 2 to this film, so either way that’s a highly recommended watch.
They would have made a profit if they had let Snyder continue. One of the many reasons the studio should never be involved in anything past financing and distributing the movie.
I enjoy this movie. It’s not my favorite Superman movie, but I enjoy it. Cavill is a great Superman and Micheal Shannon imo is a great General Zod. It’s an interesting take on Superman but I wouldn’t say THE definitive take on Superman. My only real big issue with this movie is Pa Kent, especially with the Tornado scene (btw Kevin Costner is great in the movie, I just don’t like the writing). Great video Meg!
_"My only real big issue with this movie is Pa Kent, especially with the Tornado scene"_ I had trouble with it too until I'd seen it a few times and then it clicked for me that he's counting himself lower priority than Clark's impact on the planet's future just as with the busload of kids earlier so he's putting Clark with Martha and the people at the underpass while he himself goes for the dog.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps well I think that’s what real parents would do, but with Jonathan and Martha there is this sense of fantasy with them that they are the “perfect parents”. Maybe that should have been kept. Idk, I just like the movie and wish Henry got a sequel is all.
@@lexofpower2822 I don't follow, what do you mean by "real parents" as opposed to "perfect parents"? They raise Clark and hide his secret, he becomes Superman as an adult, that's how the story goes. Zack Snyder just went into the moral implications of it where, yes, in a realistic world rather than cartoony one, keeping the secret might be protecting the planet from a WWIII breaking out over the superboy and his spaceship.
19:52 Mark! But the truck is innocent! 😮 "Blind Wave" had fun with the scene, wondering how the trucker would explain a tornado only affecting his truck and the pole! 😅
I like how people are coming back to this movie and realizing how awesome it was. It was criticized heavily when it came out and maybe still is, but a little less compared to the other Zack DC movies. Personally, I don’t know if we would get a Superman movie like this again
33:41 Mark! "Flying animation"! That's a funny and ironic observation. If you didn't know what "CGI" is, you'd probably be wondering how it was done as they did with Chroistopher and George. It wasn't just children who needed to learn how the special effects were done! As a child, I leaped a lot while pretending to be either "The Six Million Dollar Man" ("ABC") or "The Incredible Hulk" ("CBS") and consequently I lost count of how many times each my ankles have been twisted or sprang, but never fractured or broken! I never tried leaping out of a window as "Superman" though! But anyway, the point is that cartoon animation is usually meant to be blantally obvious, right?! But they "subtly" used for transforming Bela Lugosi's "Dracula" back and forth between his human form and bat form! In either Val Kilmer's or George Clooney's "Batman" movie, there's a bit used in the shadows. But those examples are afterthoughts. I began with me thinking about actor Kirk Alyn as the first live-action "Superman"! For his flying sequences, they actually used cartoon animation! For some, that merely added to the wonder even as others laughed! "How did he become a cartoon?! In the comics, he doesn't!" 😅
I love the Smallville series, its got a lot of episodes, some not so great, but the best episodes are so damn good, its a great look at that younger Clark finding himself and the ups and downs.
"Superman vs the Elite" shows why I struggle with the snap so much. Doing what's right isn't always about winning.... Sometimes it's about losing for the right reason.
It's a good thing we can have different interpretations of the same character, huh? Different films, different plots, different outcomes. But if you want to watch the same thing over and over, there's a ton of marvel garbage out there.
@@brown_recluse_human3458 I don't think the hostility is warranted but I agree that not every adaptation / interpretation needs to be a carbon copy. Bruce Wayne is my favorite character in all of literature and yet I love many different takes on him. Whether it's B:TAS, Year One, The Batman, TDK trilogy, Batman (1966), Batman: The Brave and the Bold, etc. These characters are very maliable but I think it's foolish to deny that the characters can be changed too much. The Injustice Superman is basically a different character but that works in context because evil Superman is the "What if...?" concept of the whole story. Man of Steel is great but it's not claiming this isn't Superman. It's not just an elseworld story where big core thematic changes can just be swept under the rug. If Smallville Clark, S:TAS Clark or Reeve Clark saw MOS Clark about to kill Zod they would have tried to stop him or would've told him to turn himself in if they failed. Might sound silly but that's what would happen. After a certain point of change it's no longer the character we know. Characters aren't their abilities. They are their actions and beliefs. Clark in S:TAS isn't exactly the same in Smallville but I love and accept both. I'm not just being rigid for drawing a line in the sand. Edit: I don't hate Man of Steel. I think it's great but to me Jonathan Kent says things that are way out of character and Clark killing is ooc. Henry even said that the snap was his reason why he'll never kill again. Meaning the man had to kill to learn killing is bad. No. The way he was raised is what made him such a Super Man.
1:00:33 Mark! Hmm. Some have written that "Man of Steel 2" was renamed to "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" to appeal to more people. While others have disagreed with that notion. 🤷♂️ "Wolverine" fans that I know, like the darker "Man of Steel" over "Superman The Movie", because Christopher's movie was too cheerful to their liking! Bring on the violence! 😮 To your point, there has been one domestic terrorist attack in OKC on April 19, 1995, and the first foreigner terrorist against the "WTC" before that on February 26, 1993, and the more infamous attacks of 9/11. For some creative types, those three events took the cheer and self-described naivete right out of them. Cheerful people annoyed them more than ever! The creator of "The Watchmen" created them as a reaction to his fear that then President Reagan was going to kill us all in a nuclear war and he was miffed when people didn't get the intended message of his efforts! 😮
I think Henry Cavill is perfectly cast as Superman. He is absolutely great and I really love the scene where he surrenders to the military and the following interrogation scene. I think there is a glimpse of a great Superman movie there. Sadly, it’s just a glimpse. I really dislike much about this movie and I lay 100% of the blame at the feet of Zach Snyder. I think he got really into the grim dark side of comic books and he filters all his comic book movies through that lens. I don’t think it works for Superman. Everything in this movie feels so drab and gloomy. I think part of it is the color gradient. The colors always look so faded and sterile. Superman should be bright and colorful. He should embody hope.
I'M READY FOR WAR, HENRY HATERS
It's not that we hate Henry if he had a chance he would've been a good supeman it's just the interpretation that's the problem
I don't hate Henry.
I just disagree with snyder on every level of who Superman should be. aside from choice of actor.
The "Man of Steel" is/has been one of Supes' nicknames. He's also known as the "Man of Tomorrow".
He's also known as the Big Blue Boyscout.
Same as “The Dark Knight”😮💨
I loved this film. And the soundtracks were awesome, especially "Flight" and "What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving the World?". Hans Zimmer did a wonderful job.

Seeing Clark take flight for the first time will always be a core memory for when when I saw this in theaters the sound design was insane.
Don't think that scene will ever be outdone. Most epic Superman scene with not one punch being thrown

Maaaa the snyderverse failed because Batman vs superman was a trash movie simple lol

Bvs and Justice League are the sequels. The Ultimate Edition and the Snyder Cut were just extend versions that didn't add much to the story.

I think the term you meant to say was Eugenics not Epigenetics
Also, a lot of people really have a problem with how Jon dies.
Fax, thank you for understanding the film unlike the ppl who still fail to realize this, even though it's been 10 years 💯.
Please watch Superman vs the Elite!

Great recommendation
Love your reaction, MoS is my second favourite comic book movie of all time and Henry deserves a sequel to this masterpiece of a movie.
People who think this is dark are snowflakes who cry like babies when they get a papercut. 😂 This is real world, not dark.
@@AshrafAnam Manchester Black : You think that's it? It's not over, you poncy twit. If you think I'll just go to jail and rot, you're living in a dream world!
Superman : Good. Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us into something better.
@@ultimamage3 Extremely well said.
39:37 *"You think...you can frighten...my mother?!"* I felt that. Someone tries to come for your Moms-- END. THEM.
Moms? This is Kansas, not Utah.
Threaten, not frighten.
Are you going to watch Superman & Lois? I would love to see your reaction to it 🙂

Yeah it would be great to see her reaction to it. Amazing show.
The original comic book called Superman, the man of steel. That’s where they got the name from.
This is my favorite movie, it just makes me sad how ahead of its time it was. If this had come out a decade later, it would’ve been renowned and actually gotten a proper sequel. It also just straight up still looks better than movies today
Oh my God, thank you ! Finally someone who thinks exactly like me about this movie !
I like Zod. One of the few memorable villains on these movies.

And you're not wrong about the score - John Williams is a legend, but Hans Zimmer manages keeps up with him. Looking forward to the Batman Vs Superman: Ultimate Edition reaction!
Superman Returns is just as good! Underrated
I’m so happy and grateful you watched this masterpiece! My favorite trilogy of superhero films has arrived. Loved your reaction.
When you watch Batman V Superman, make sure you watch the Ultimate Edition! That’s the true version of the movie.
It doesn't actually matter which version she watches.
It's called Man of Steel because he's not the Superman that we all know and love...yet! He's finding himself.
Lol, I think its cause they didn’t want to reuse the same movie title by just calling it Superman
hans Zimmers, "flight" never fails to make me emotional... "keep testing your limits" .... " they will join you in the sun"
Honestly the perfect Superman in my eyes is Tyler’s but i understand if it’s Henry for some people
And then their version of Justice League was the ungodly dumpster fire we were all subjected to as fans :(
After Discovery had purchased Warner Bros, they knew too much damage had been done to the franchise by the previous Heads and people like Joss Whedon.
Brandon Routh played Superman after Christopher Reeve in Superman Returns... A continuation of Reeve's movies.
So cool. This movie had so much serious vibe, amazing.
Thank you for reacting and have a great weekend!
Notes: I was going to watch "Liz XP" play "Skyrim" until the notification for this video popped up!
The Multiverse has never confused me, so I was annoyed that the people who were so confused, got their way when "The Crisis on Infinite Earths" happened! I also wrote letters in protest of Supergirl's death and I was so happy when it was eventually undone by revealing it was a shape-shifting entity! Or something like that. 🤔
The live-action "Krypton" gives us the first live-action versions of "Adam Strange" and "Lobo"! But it is the first "DC" series of those that I've seen to disappoint me! 😞
The more recent series "Naomi" became the second one but only because it didn't last long enough for her to meet her idol, Superman!
That's my long way of saying that I enjoyed most of the "DC" movies and series that I've seen, be they live-action or not, in color or not.
So I like each version of the "DCEU" movies that I've seen!

I had trouble with it too until I'd seen it a few times and then it clicked for me that he's counting himself lower priority than Clark's impact on the planet's future just as with the busload of kids earlier so he's putting Clark with Martha and the people at the underpass while he himself goes for the dog.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps well I think that’s what real parents would do, but with Jonathan and Martha there is this sense of fantasy with them that they are the “perfect parents”. Maybe that should have been kept. Idk, I just like the movie and wish Henry got a sequel is all.

Highly recommend “Superman & Lois” for anyone looking for a modern Superman with writing that does the character justice.
Snyder actually did a great job with the character, it was the studio itself that messed it up.

"Wolverine" fans that I know, like the darker "Man of Steel" over "Superman The Movie", because Christopher's movie was too cheerful to their liking! Bring on the violence! 😮
To your point, there has been one domestic terrorist attack in OKC on April 19, 1995, and the first foreigner terrorist against the "WTC" before that on February 26, 1993, and the more infamous attacks of 9/11.
