Difficult but after a few decades practice I realized that there are multiple scales of big: so small you can’t see (microscopic & Plank Scale), human, planetary, galaxial, and dark matter distances (whatever they are). Can I visualize them the same way I remember how to tie my shoes? No. But enough that I reject the term insignificant as it applies to humans. That's exactly why LIFE elsewhere is guaranteed. Everything is a numbers game. People that don't agree with this are not educated enough about science enough to grasp it properly. It is a fact based on the huge numbers. Life will exist where the conditions for it allow it to exist. (Including, temperature, water and other factors.) There is life more advanced, less advanced, and equal to human beings. The huge numbers allow for the chance for any and all of it. It's simply spaced far apart. Advanced beings can no doubt travel faster and farther. Making it to Earth.

Holy smokes Brian you just broke my brain and put it back together again in 2 mins.
True, and perhaps the other side of the dimension spectrum as well, can we ‘fully’ wrap our mind around the minute size of subatomic particles ?
If there is only 1 planet with life per galaxy, which I believe there are millions, but just 1 per galaxy, that’s 2 trillion planets with life on them.
Difficult is intuitive knowledge of the time light takes to go some of these distances. Go Brian!
I love your smile and the way you share your infinite knowledge; many thanks ; I always been fascinated by astronomy; been from Antigua Guatemala; we went to the Jaguar temple and we could see a part of a Milky Way seem so close ; thanks to you I’m learning, very grateful. Keep sharing with us thank you
