First off this was one of the best, if not the best performance of The Awakening that I've ever seen on RUclips (in my opinion). But the main reason I love this video so much is because all of the close up camera shots of just Claypool's hands and bass. If you are attempting to learn how to play this yourself on bass, those close ups are invaluable information since you can see exactly which notes and frets he is playing, plus being able to see his right hand clearly enough to see exactly when and how he is slapping and popping when the song starts cooking. Its physically impossible for me to watch 5:28 through 6:05 without a huge smile on my face... Because of this video, I realized for the first time that Les literally only pops the G string for the majority of the solo and uses his thumb to slap the E, A, and D strings, which is not common at all in the world of playing bass. He has such a good slap though that the sound his D string makes while hitting it with his thumb is almost indistinguishable from the same string being popped conventionally. And at 5:53 in the solo, he actually uses his thumb to slap all 4 strings with no pops whatsoever. Thats incredible to me that he can slap all 4 strings without losing the sound and power you usually get from popping the 2 upper strings. Thanks for posting man! .
Its amazing how Geddy Lee influenced Les Clayton and was a huge inspiration on him... and then later on once Primus was around Geddy was influenced by Les Claypool's playing style. Geddy's current playing style is very similar to Claypool's.
it's a cover of the band The Reddings but it was covered before by Les Claypool and featured on his album Highball With the Devil by Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel.
Please never take this down. This is my favorite live performance of Tommy the Cat. Awesome.

I think there was a better quality version that was deleted a while ago
