      I used to be hot garbage on everything. I’m now just warm. I made a short list of my worst bad habits. I worked on fixing them one at a time. Cleaning up that list has made me faster, and more confident. My skills will take me only so far, but trying to get the most out of what I have.

    • @voodoo7008

      frcShoryuken, being loose off the corners in dirt, because I was doing it all wrong. I was turning the wheel to the left, but not turning it back right to keep the countersteer going. Another was driving too gently on a slick track, because it was slick. I fixed that, by going in hard, and deep, keeping it on the bars. Get off the bars, you’re in trouble. Another, being more confident. Race’em, and race’em hard. Working on letting the car drift up the the wall on every lap. Again, this is dirt track, but still a car, and still racing.

    I’ve noticed that many times I don’t breathe when I’m making a turn or in other situations, I saw that professional drivers train not to do this, over time I realized that this is something that bothers me and I would also like to know if u can make a video about how to improve this and also focus more on the driving, sometimes I lose focus and end up committing mistakes

    • @frcShoryuken
      @frcShoryuken 4 года назад

      I read an article a long time ago (can't remember where) that mentioned this "forgetting" to breathe being a very common thing and that it's one of the things which separates pros from amateurs. People who haven't practiced their craft as much as pros have a tendency to hold their breathe during times of stress (i.e. when you have the ball or you're trying to perform a move/technique). Your brain gets deprived of oxygen during key moments which can lead to bad results and also becoming more quickly fatigued
      There wasn't really a solution other than just over emphasizing that you consciously remind yourself to breathe while you practice. A method I've seen commonly recommended for other games where you have to regularly check the status of something in-game (the map/radar, your resources, etc) is to set a metronome to a really slow speed or a timer that you can set to beep every 5 secs or so, just as an external reminder for your brain to remember something (breathing in this case)

      @@lucasalves0461 the fact you realized you do it is a great first step. That's not something many people catch themselves since it's a subconscious thing. Now that you recognize the habit, you can work to change it 🙂

    Last year I was a bit lucky. It took me 2 races to get out of the iRacing rookie status and Tsukuba was one of the tracks. I learned the track via one of the racing schools. They delivered setups and hot laps you could follow. In none of them, they took turn 5 like you just did. They all seemed to use the curbs as the apex. I am very anxious to try it and see if I can improve. I also feel that I understand the breaking (in general) but specifically for this track much better. Great video!

  • @VodkaHellstorm
    @VodkaHellstorm 3 года назад

    I'm new to the game, but I'm finding the current Mazdas (Global MX5 Cup) very frustrating to drive. My best Tsukuba time on an empty track is a 1:04.8. I'm not sure if the current cars are different to the ones in the video, but I feel like both I and the car constantly want one lower gear in every corner than everybody suggests to use, including this video. I don't know if it's just because I suck, because something is different with the car than what every video/forum post I've seen suggests, or what. I want to get better but I don't know how, trying to apply advice from better drivers just makes me slower. My trail braking has improved a tonne, but everything else is just a understeery mess.

    I think I would benefit hugely from an in depth guide to the phrase and technique of 'carrying speed into the corner' and how it affects or is affected by trail braking. Currently I excel at carrying speed into the corner, through the corner and out the corner into the the run offs or gravel traps. So if you find yourself at a loose end one day Scott, I'd be much obliged.

    I dirt track only, and am guilty as hell of not using the entire track. It’s usually in cars I’m not fully comfortable in, or a track I’m not comfortable on. The track/car combos I am good with, I’ll get right up on the wall.

    Is the proper iRacing option for this car a sequential gearbox with auto-blip? I was trying full h-pattern and heel-toe just for the fun of it to learn, but it sounds like I'm wasting energy and focus. The genuine Global MX-5 series website says all cars out of Flis Performance are sequential, so I assume iRacing stayed true.

    • @gregorionocco5641
      @gregorionocco5641 4 года назад

      unluckly there is no point in h-shifter in majority of iracing cars. they all have sequential and frontal gearing irl so they all have just 2 pedal and paddles. on manual blip is a little bit faster but in mazda as a rookie the time you are losing w auto blip is not your prob n.1

      @@hoser_below6002 I think the cars these were based on at the time were H pattern. I H pattern the mx-5 in iracing with heel-toe, just cos it's more fun. It might be a bit slower, but who cares TBH. I can usually find someone to battle with who is about my pace, it doesn't matter if it's not at the front of the field as far as I'm concerned. There are a few other H pattern cars on the service. The Mustang FR500 S and the Spec Racer Ford come to mind immediately.
