I have one of these and it’s awesome. Use it for HD. It’s super reliable and run out of rounds you can attack the bad guy with it. Probably hurt worse than being hit with a cinder brick. Softest shooter I have ever tried. The downsides are it’s weight and low round count, but you just can’t beat this tank for dependability.
Never heard of this channel until now, but that is one of the single hardest intros I’ve ever seen. Missed the opportunity for a side channel called Illuminati With A Shotty.
I have a Lew Horton special order 4596 compact with a 4516-1 3 3/4 inch slide & barrel w/Novak lo-mount sights. Less than were made in the early 90's. It's one tough piece. This gun can do rapid-fire groups. It is heavy but very reliable. It's DA as well. It out performed a Kimber compact I had. It has never misfired! A PO carried one of these in service and fired over 5000 rds w/o a misfire. It's one great gun to own...very happy to have it.
I have the 5906, now I want the .45, I’m late to the game but just really getting into .45, always carry a .9mm. Love shooting the bigger rounds. I have a couple 1911’s but to have a twin gun to my 5906 but in .45😀
I love the old school Smiths, I have a S&W 59 and I love it, I put some aftermarket wood grips on it and it's just as sexy as the S&W 39 but with the extra capacity of the 59...
I remember when I was on the NHSP we went to the 4566. An all stainless tank that weighed around 50 lbs. Well it felt like it. I have one today and I'm sure that with cockroaches this pistol will survive a global thermonuclear war.
Cost and weight. Outclassed by plastic fantastics and striker fired guns, which are cheaper to make and buy. Also, the ergos aren't really very good, the reassembly is a pain, and the safety/decocker is among the least popular of all designs (slide mounted, "up" being fire). At the time these were $700 guns in the 1990s. That's a fortune for a pistol.
Jkjr Karmia because polymer pistols. Polymer means cheaper build and sale price. That being said all metal Smiths would still have a market if they did it. Just add a rail to these guns like the CHP guns and they would be “relevant” today. My EDC is a 469 and my 1st pistol I ever shot was a Sheriffs issued 4506 back in 99 leading me down this road to collect them.
Styles and tastes changed. Heavy all steel handguns with external safety levers were cutting edge when I was a college student watching Miami Vice on Friday night. I own two 3rd Generation S&W autos (4586 & 4516) and they are fine handguns. But I have to say they are heavy. I carry a Glock 19 as my duty sidearm and it's much easier to carry during a 12 hours shift. That and other reasons ensured that polymer handguns took over the market.
Polymer is much, much, MUCH cheaper to produce and manufacture than steel. So gun manufacturers found a way to convince shooters, including those weighing 200-250 pounds, that a gun weighing a few ounces less is necessary----like carrying a steel gun is impossible, LOL. Win-win.

I love this Gun . It’s nice and heavy. Low recoil. Perfect 7+1 Single-stack

What dash is yours?
A one -legged fat chick can outperform a Kimber compact.
This pistol ROCKS I bought mine brand new in 1998.
I Love those 3rd gen Smith and Wesson's! Thank you for sharing!
Wessons, not Wesson's.
I wish smith would bring these back

I have the 4516 and love it.
Ahhh. . . . . the good old days before MIM!
This is a 4516-1 or a 4516-2. The 4516 (no dash) has a stepped frame, with a thinner slide.
Love mine. A real accurate shooter.
I just got a 457s a few days great gun
Very good video. Love the 3rd gen. S&W
I have the 4013 one of my favorite guns, I was just thinking about pulling it out of retirement

@Lima 2 Actual they are definitely beefy making magazine ejections a bit slow but I bought it on Ebay from someone who makes reproductions.
@Lima 2 Actual look for bobby.a from Thailand, Mine are rosewood and gorgeously made by hand.
I miss mine so much.
The 4516 is awesome 😎
I found one of these for $400. Is that a good deal or should I keep looking ?
Got mine for 320
Very good guns
I found one for free
What a fantastic pistol

All tho all the information was great in the video. The video should Be about the 4516 and not everything else.
Although is one word. "Tho" isn't a word. The word is though.
Why did they stop making these?

Jkjr Karmia polymer craze. Metal guns lost market share

Do these work better than short barreled 1911's ?
Yes
Everything runs better than a compact 1911. Including a fat chick with one leg.
Did you write the S&W page on WIKI for this weapon? ;)
