    You're going the right way about the restoration......get your kids to do all the work done that they can. But seriously what they can do teaches them how to work with tools properly and safely and also gets the family involved.

    Finding the boats log book is fantastic and now you get to add all of the electric and plumbing plans, receipts and warranties of everything you are adding and restoring to it. Plus with the engine bay being clear of the engine parts, it will make having to paint it so much easier than when you had to do it for sloe patrol. You really are grafting, making sure to be as efficient as possible having the boat in the yard, keeping everything crossed that the engine and everything it needs can be restored back to full working order 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤗

    Great seeing you back at it! Cruising vids were fine but I enjoy watching you build more. My unsolicited opinion on the ceiling, don't take it down. Staggard board lengths are to prevent horizontal lines when you look the length of the boat and give it a smoother, non-segmented look.

    May I ask a sort of personal question, have you got the boat legally signed over to you ? Don’t fancy you doing all that work then the owner wanting it back ! ( not saying he would though ! X) xx

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  Год назад

      No it’s not my boat legally. The owner no longer lives in the UK mainland so he doesn’t want it. That was always going to be worked out once we knew how much we’d have to spend and do to get this boat right - we’ll sort that before I take it on properly

    Whilst the engine is out, it would be worth dropping the sump off and rocker cover and inspect for play and acid corrosion. Will only cost a few gaskets.
    Possibly drop the timing chest cover if you can get at it,.
    And main crank seals replace, whilst it's out of the boat. Really future proof yourself.

    Very cool to see the kids involved - a way to learn practical skills - how many kids know how to use a drill as a screwdriver? On the humors side, I was wondering how big the starboard cabinet actually is. It seemed a bit like a clown car as you kept pulling more and more stuff from it, was waiting for Jimmy Hoffa’s body to come out 😮. I am a little disappointed that it turns out that she’s 58’ long. I kept associating her with 1957 Gibson Les Paul Gold Tops. You know me, always about the guitars. Keep up the good work!

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt

      I will have one done but no there isn’t one yet and one hasn’t been done for a while. Ralph is a narrowboat surveyor of many years and has assured me it’s looking fine so I’m reassured to some extent. An independent surveyor will be used though for thickness readings and general hull survey whilst she’s out the water
