I find it funny that people tell you to stick your sheep in a barn, they tell Sandi to stick them in pasture. I'm waiting for someone to tell you to take them home and let them sleep on the foot of your bed😊
oh I watch Sandi too. I think they tell her to put them outside because most of her videos are them inside for lambing or they just dont know anything. I do like her setup of bring them inside since all of her lambing stuff is in one building and its quicker for her to spot/help the sheep if something is going wrong during birth.
Sandi never lets her sheep outside, that's why she has so much disease and health problems in her herd.
@@ajax068 she has them in all the time, when she released some of her retired golden girls into a pasture they didnt realise grass was food. Thats why people tell her to let them be on pasture atleast some of the time. I cant imagine the smell of her set up with them never being out. She keeps getting mite outbreaks and honestly Im not wondering why. Even the lambs she has in until she sends them off or adds them to her flock. Its more financially viable where she is I think.
@poppymason-smith1051 I am 1000% positive Tara's flock also has mites. If you have spent any time around livestock you know it happens.
@@nikkbee88 a natural amount of mites off grass is normal. Having sheep living day in, day out on mite infested bedding makes the numbers become an infestation instead of just a usual parasite load. Thats why Sandi kept having sheep eating each others wool and leaving bald patches due to the level of itchyness. Its how she chooses to do it but it does mean a higher level of mites that she isnt addressing in how she manages their substrate. When you deal with parasite infestations you have to address the bedding and atleast change it while treating the animals, to remove eggs and live mites from their surroundings. Outside in grass/soil, under the sun and rain mite eggs are not going to be surviving at the same levels that they will in hot bedding thats not changed for months at a time. Treating the sheep is pointless without changing how they are managed to reduce the mites in their surroundings. They become re infested the second the treatment stops working while increasing the mites exposure to that treatment without eradicating them increase those that survive and pass on immunity. Its bad parasite management and will reduce meat yields from the flock. Some parasites can also transfer diseases between flock members. Tara and Sandi have completely different flock management styles, aims and challenges. For Sandi it may well be cheaper and more productive to never let the sheep see a pasture but I will still judge it as negative to the welfare needs of the sheep. Same way battery and caged hens produce more eggs..... More productive and cheaper but are the hens living in a way that best provides for their welfare needs.

The primelines are! Not so much the crossbred fat lambs. We’ve weaned the oldest now, we weighed some of the front primelines today are around 40kg at 4 months old which we’re happy with. Just don’t look at the amount of feed we’ve had to give them. 😬

My mugs have been here a few weeks but I have my moistening intermission mug on my desk (in southwest Scotland) as I type this. I especially like the attention to detail, the message is clearly visible when I am drinking from the mug during meetings online. It seems people find the idea of moistening, like the word itself to make them borderline uncomfortable, which I find highly amusing. I don't think there were tags in the shop when I ordered - next time.
Thank you for what you do, shepherding work is one of those things grounds me when I lose sight of the real world, tagging along with you is good.

Thank you for being so candid about the trade offs and how hard it is to predict everything. While we wish everything could be perfect, sometimes nature just laughs at us. I had four kids (goats - not people!) born on a day that was -10F in March (not that unusual in Montana) and of course every other day that week was above freezing and only went up from there. Got home from work to an awful surprise and am just glad I saved one. Never before or since had such early babies.

Thank you for your videos. We had our first ewe give birth and #1 and #3 were stuck. So I had to reach my hand in and unhooked their lega. Thanks to your channel and Sandi's I knew what to do. I didn't exactly want to do it but the vet was busy. All your knowledge has also helped me care for them as Mum rejected them. #2 is fat and happy with Mum.

I’ll miss next week finally having my cataract surgery on my other eye and my biopsy’s came back all squamous cell carcinoma . So starting treatment for the 7 that we biopsied . I’ll still listen I just won’t be seeing for a wee while.

The gusts of wind here near Canberra (I live in southern Highlands between Canberra and the coast) have been crazy. My yard is littered with small sticks and branches and I had to rescue my bins which were being blown around by the wind....and reports are that Victoria has had worse wind and weather than my area has had.
My local SES unit has been very busy with jobs/call outs today.

Personally I would love to support the wool industry and a wool blanket sounds fantastic. The main thing stopping me from buying wool products is not knowing where to look. I mean, you’re not going to find it at a local department store in the US y’know? But for items like blankets, sweaters and coats, I’d definitely invest in wool if I knew it was available somewhere. Learning what kind of wool it is and what qualities it has from you would definitely make me feel more confident in buying it

I'm surprised Slug hasn't ended up in one of the larger lamb coats when her usual jacket is slimed and needs a wash. It would be fun to see her in one! It may not be practical, though, since she needs to be in and out of her jacket as she does her herding duties.

Tara I just love your videos. You explain stuff so well and I enjoyed how you showed us the turtle position 😂
