  • Today the crew, Alex Koehler, Andre Koneczny ,Ryan Shawer and I fire up the giant B+O EM1
    2-8-8-4 Steam locomotive for a trip around Howard Zanes Layout. This was the biggest locomotive the B+O ever ran. The model is a custom painted and weathered brass import with 2 sound decoders installed by Jan Willard to produce incredible sound. Alot more to come as we slowly get this giant railroad back up and running. Do you need help with your model railroad? Contact alpug1@verizon.net You can see more runs from today on Ryans RUclips channel ‪@ryanexpresstrains8074‬

    I saw one of these at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. I was awed by the sheer size of the thing. It is MASSIVE!

    I was privileged to visit this amazing layout during an open house about 10 years ago. It is beyond description of a working art form. Howard is a talent not duplicated in the realm of model railroading. The attention to detail is breathtaking. If you are able to get your hands on Howard's book by all means do so. Most would not believe you if you simply described what you saw. Thank you Howard Zane.

    Absolutely awesome to see this magnificently weathered steam locomotive with the double decoder sound going through its paces on this most stunning of layouts. Great filming and appropriate commentary. Keep them coming Al. I share all these with my fellow train club members here in South Australia.

    Note: This is an '86 run Key Import which along with their C&O H-8 done also In 1986 (three runs....1980, 1986, and 1997....all quite wonderful), are among the finest they have ever done. I have the $3000+/- Challenger EM1 and the only real difference and the only real difference i can find behind a $1500 rice difference is more detail on the bottom of the Challenger version plus they were all factory painted. I painted this beast.

    125 '3"5/8th coupler to coupler which I think makes it 4"3/8thinches shorter than an Allegheny at 125' 7'7/8th inches. Of course its a fair bit lighter than an Allegheny at 314Tons against an Allegheny's estimated weight of 389tons. I don't have a brass model of the EM-1 but I do have a two of the Bachmann models which will have to suffice for the moment.

    Incredible footage. I would suggest if possible to do an Erie Passenger Train on the lower level or a Jersey Central set. So many options! Keep em coming Al

      Yes we will. We need to tweek some Erie passenger cars to run as they gave us fits today but we will prevail!

    Absolutely beautiful model on a beautiful layout, who installed the decoder and would you possibly have someone do a video on how to, I’ve never done sound installs and would love to learn to, but I’m very nervous, especially when I’m dealing with my $1,200 greenbrier. Thanks for sharing!

      You would have to search RUclips for how to do DCC conversions with sound as the person that did this conversion is not taking on any additional work and does not make videos. It is something I would recommend a professional do and the 1 person I know doing them has a 9 month wait.

    I have a question: Why do you use two decoders in one locomotive?

    • @alpugliesetrains9753
      @alpugliesetrains9753  Год назад

      He did it to create a different sound than you normally get.Somewhat expermental

    Is it a difficult task to add sound to an engine?

    • @alpugliesetrains9753
      @alpugliesetrains9753  9 месяцев назад +1

      Depending on the engine we do not do it but it can easily exceed $400 Depending on if the loco is dcc or dc.recommend checking out other youtube under adding sound
