This is my first guitar, got it a week ago. Wish me luck
Have fun - Kevin
You are brave for picking a seven as your first im too intimidated
Be careful! That's a 7 string you're messin' with!
Your smart for picking a 7 first. It’ll make your hands stronger and you’ll have that extra bass string to keep drop tuned while the rest is in standard. Or drop C while the other is in drop D. Lots of combinations out there lol
It’s been one month, how do you like it?
Bro for 200 dollars, it just screams me. Needed a 7 string for my death metal tendencies and it looks amazing
same
Same ! Everyone I listen to uses 7 string baratone so idk if seven string is better or a six string baratone. I can't afford $1000 for a seven string baratone :(
Thanks Ryan, this video is two years old but is still applicable to Jackson's JS22Q-7, and your overall demo and review helped me feel confident to buy one for practice & upgrading. ..subscribed ;)
This is the type of reviews im looking for! Good job
i love the playing! if those were on Spotify, i'd definitely listen to those lmfao nice playing man! i've been looking at Ibanez 7-strings, but now i'm looking at the Jackson brand cause they're an amazing brand, so i figured their 7-strings would be high quality, and for $200 that's a steal!
This guys sample riff are badass!
The Jackson high output pickups are surprisingly good, i have them in my warrior. great demo, think this will be my next guitar 😎
thanks for the demo i'm so glad really good guitar & no expensive too very well sound .
Ome o f the best videos demo s and absolutely the best js22 review !!! 🤟🤟 I had the 32 ....I sold it , but now my heart is coming back to the old jacks and I ll buy this one , it s no big difference !
I just ordered one of these. Very excited to get it. I like how Jackson head stocks allow the strings to go straight across the bridge and directly to a tuning peg. It also means one side of the head stock wont have more tension than the other.
killer demo. sounds good and the filming was sick too.
Been playing 20 years, bought this about 4 years ago as my first 7 string.Excellent guitar.of course seymour Duncan's and grover locking tuners would be great but still it's awesome for now.!!!🤘👍
This is about a good a demo I have heard a good musician make a cheap guitar sound...I am almost convinced I could make my 6505 crank with this.. Thanks...enjoyed it.
Love the tone. Wicked playing!
Thanks a lot!
Great vid of a great budget guitar! I've had one of these for years. Upgraded it with a set of Schaller locking tuners (had to order a 3x3 set with one extra), Hipshot Bridge and a set of Imperiums and it rips. Not quite as nice as my Pro H7, but much better than a lot of $7-900 guitars I've played. One thing I did notice, quality control is all over the map, so if you get the opportunity, try out several JS22-7s and pick the best one.
I am so fucking glad I upgraded from a squire strat to this baby it feels so much better
This comment is the reason I shall buy one as well lol
@@fredriksvard2603 classic vibes play amazing tho lol
I just bought the new Rhoads version of this same guitar so it’s super-encouraging to hear you get some great tones.
Scooped this guitar the other day as my first guitar! I didn't get an amp but I think that will be the next purchase. Good review!
I was so hyped when I saw the EVH amp because THATS MY AMP. Sounds great man, thanks.
It is a freaking great sounding guitar actually. I bought one just for laughs for 200 bucks. It sounds better than my ESP LTD. The humbucking pickups are actually very god for clean and heavy. The fretwork was terrible and cut my hands up. I had to file the edges. I had to set the guitar up too and it was not easy but I got it playing perfectly. Its actually become my go to lol. The AXE FX 2 helps and can make any guitar sound decent but this guitar actually really shines and it is hot. Those humbuckers are much hotter than my Gibson's ands its even hotter than my active EMGs.
you killed those riffs bro, great playing
Not gonna pretend I didn’t see how much fun you had there. Great review
Great track, and love the details like the real double tracking.
High quality stuff! Not my "cup of tea" generally but the recording, playing and effort are all top notch! Thanks for posting.
I just bought this guitar bout a month ago and well I absolutely love it, it is one of my most fav guitars ive played so far... it is my very first 7 string and it took me about two weeks to get used to it i love it.. I was also just gonna add on here with mine, I played it after tuning it no add ons whatsoever i use a Nux MxR MG-100 pedal and after playing for about 6 hours straight just playing around strumming trying different effects and such I only dropped tuning because I wanted a different sound but I actually never lost tuning on mine with all the factory stuff on it.
Amazing as always my friend ✌️like 4 and enjoyed a lot. Have a nice weekend!
I actually was lucky enough to find the covered pickup version of this guitar for the same price. I like it.
I'm sold on this because I like Progressive Metal now I want a Jackson JS22 as my first 7 string to add to my artillery I own a cheap Silvertone strat and a 1986 Ibanez Roadstar II RB650 bass.
Bro you made this guitar sound WICKED!!!!
Awesome playing man
This is a good review! I'm looking at 7-string guitars that fit my budget and playing, this Jackson has always come out as the best contender.
Have you looked into the similarly priced Ibanez? Just curious what your thoughts on it were
@@thenightmare5784 the 7221 has 5 way selector but it has 25.5 scale compared to 26.5 on this.
This video made my mind up for me! Getting one! Many thanks!
Glad I could help! Thanks for checking out our video - Kevin
@@Crypticmaskguitar my pleasure-keep on picking dude!!! 👍
Grear review and sound demostration, i want to put a dean revolution 7 pickup on that guitar to hear how it sound
Just ordered mine today! First guitar I’ve ever purchased. Looking forward to learning lots
Update, it showed up and I got it tuned to drop A, just waiting on my amp now, a boss katana 50w
I just got one. They didn’t have flat black but I got a nice shiny dark black
Awesome!!! Thanks for your help... I was looking for a 7 string guitar... This looks good!!!
I just picked this up at guitar center for $160 bucks and it is awesome!!!
Just got this used, with a hard case for the equivalent of $145 (keep in mind I live in a country where it would cost more than $200 new). I'm pretty happy. My first 7-string \m/
My eyes are 20/400 eye so I can't tell, but is this Jeff loomis I'm watching?! Guy is amazing. Keep it up!
wow, bro. great video. very impressed.
Been playing gtr for like 12 years, but this will be my first 7string. Can't wait 🤘 sounds great
Going through reviews and might pick this up today. It would be my first guitar
Great video! Great playing!! You rock bro! Kevin James on Metal! \m/
Holy shiz you sound awesome! Wasn’t expecting my face to get melted lol
I just upgraded mine with hipshot tuners, hipshot bridge, graphtech nut and Dragonfire Crusader pickups. It went from Meh To fantastic in an hour of time.
Can you reply to me with model numbers of the mods you’ve just mentioned? I’ll be doing the same thing (except for the pickups - I have another set in mind).
Thank you!
Which graphtech did you get?
Which hipshot bridge did you choose? I'm looking for one for mine
ordered this a few days ago, first guitar, intimidated yet excited lol
This is a very good video. Helpful
Thanks for the review Kevin, I think I'm going to pick this up as my first 7 string, respray it and upgrade the hardware as you've suggested! I can always transfer any pickups to a better 7 string once I get used to it.
Great choice! I’m not Kevin, though. There are two of us on this channel... Kevin is the bald dude hahaha! I have two of these all with upgrades. They are great beaters for sure! Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar Sorry Ryan! Found one for £166, can't go wrong with that 👍
It doesn't matter how often I compare harley benton r457 active sbk with this wonderful piece, I will still buy this guitar even though I am only a beginner
Now I want to get an ENGL! That tone is so sick!!
Jeeeez. The first riff of the demo went from zero to face melt in 2.3 seconds flat
😲Came for the guitar, subbed for the Beastly shredding.
I bought one of it, and what a heavy sound it has, amazing guitar by the price
whoa cool playing, great sound... I'm glad I ordered this guitar today. Well, not quite this model version, I ordered the JS22-7 DKA QM Trans Black Burst... Looking foward to get a bit brutal with my Bogner Überschall pedal combined with an mxr EQ ...unfortunately not on a Mesa, only a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister Deluxe 40, but with the Bogner distortion the H&K sounds quite nice...
Hell yes I am getting a Jackson DKA JS22-7.
That Satin/Matte looks beautiful
I just got one first Jackson I've had it's so awesome for price I've had a rg7 and 2 dean's avalanche and vendetta 7 strings had to change pickups and tuners on all but the Jackson haven't changed anything it's so crunchy with my pedals I'm sold it's Jackson and Charvel from now on
I was looking for a Jackson 7 string and this is the first that popped up so I looked it up and I am not displeased.
For the price? Yes, this is definitely a good buy for someone who is barely transitioning from 6 strings to 7. The price also allows for a great mod-platform too!
Great review.
This sold me. On my way to get this bad boy now.
Congrats! She’s definitely got potential! With the right Amp she sings! Great for easy mods as well! Cheers -Ryan
Stunning!
Your reactions are awesome 😂
that Phrygian mode really sounds good especially in metal music, got the same guitar
Would you recommend?
@@Rhyscape yes! it's good
Nice music man! 👏
I haven't even gotten through the whole video, and I'm already giving this a like. Great sample tracks on the guitar!
I was almost set on purchasing a Harley Benton 7 String (R-457MN WH Prog Series), and then I came across this Jackson. From your video, the stock pickups sound great; and it may even improve on post. But I would for sure swap those pups out with something else. Anyway, I can ramble on too...so I'll just say thank you for the quick review.
It’s the PERFECT Mod Platform! I have one with DiMarzio Titans and one with DiMarzio Ionizers! Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar Merry Christmas Ryan!
You are now chatting with a brand new owner of their first 7 String! Instead of the JS22-7, I went with the JS32-7 in the Snow White finish (I couldn’t resist the color). So I dropped another $200 on a guitar that’s probably the same. However, Guitar Center gave me a discount cuz they wanted to make a sale...so that was a win for me.
I’ll spend about a good 6-12months learning how to transition from a 6 string player to a 7 string juggernaut! After that, I’ll begin the mods.
I’m thinking Cold Sweat/Nail Bomb humbuckers from Bare Knuckle Pickups, with a Hipshot 3x4 tuning machines and bridge saddle 😎
Oh yeah, look at me talking like I know what the hell I’m doing...haha.
Anyway, cheers! I watched your other videos with the mods on this Jackson, and it helped me a lot. Thank you!
Nice! I might pick up the Snow White JS32-7 to mod... but I believe you might end up doing a bit of light sanding to fit the pickups in the cavities. I believe the Jackson High Outputs are physically a hair smaller and you might have to do a bit of sanding... not that big of a deal, though. I could be wrong. But Congrats! I'd recommend the Bridge as your first mod... very easy to upgrade and BY FAR the most effective upgrade! Cheers -Ryan
Awesome review sir! If possible anytime please make a review like this of the budget Jackson JS-32T Rhoads Guitar. Great content, you have my sub.
Released the video a few weeks back. Cheers -Ryan
Thank you, I will check it out!
Oh my god... That ENGL Invader is amazing!
Just got traded one and I love it. It's worth the money if you want a good seven string
I’ve had this guitar for 6 years now and I love it. Switched out the pickups and sounds amazing. This and my 15 year old KVX10 are my main guitars.
Nice! I also have a KVX10 lol Cheers -Ryan
Outstanding demo and review! You got some wicked tones from all these chains. I'm curious what strings you like for this Jackson?
I can’t lie your play style is a mixed between groove, thrash, and a part of a slip knot nu metal and sounds sick
Very good demo, thanks. I was thinking of the Ltd ec 257 SB but I rather spend the 300 eur difference in pickups, bridge and locking tuners.
Thank You For Checking Out Our Video, We Have A Very Large Back Catalogue With Many Great Videos Coming Out In The Future, I Hope You Will Consider Subscribing,- Kevin
I got this guitar three months ago and is the fucking law talking about quality / price! Even! More quality and very very very low cost! No problem with tunners at this time, no problems with the bridge. Only I need to had careful with the first calibrations, bridge, tuners and pickup elevation, but only that and no need other weird procedures.
Amazing sound and excellent price!
love to see a direct comparison of this and the ESP LTD MH-17
nevermind.. i went ahead and bought the js22. lol had a 15% off coupon code. $181 total including tax and shipping.. that's low enough for an impulse buy. :)
$160 at GC today sale
You could see you were into it within a few seconds lol \m/
Damn dude, you sound great on that JS22-7. I just picked it up last week as my first 7-string, so I'm still getting use to it. Do you have this in B standard or in drop A?
The Engl and Mesa sound really siccccccc
Got this guitar used yesterday. Equipped with Mick Thompson blacked out seymour duncans…. Its fuckken bad ass
nice, been wanting to buy one of these and mod the crap out of it. looks like fun to play.
Definitely fun to play! Modding is SUPER EASY on this as well. I have a few videos showing what I have done to it. The Hipshot Install video might help you out if you are curious. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar Awesome, I will check out your vids! thanks man! ❤️👍🏽
Just got one 🤘🤘
I just picked up one of these last week, in gloss black for $149. Free shipping.
Fucking amazing playing dude
Just got this one today it fn rocks
Congrats! I almost bought a 3rd one today hahaha but left the store with a Marshall DSL 100HR instead. You'll enjoy the JS22-7! I highly recommend a Hipshot .175 bridge, though. Super Easy to install and makes a HUGE difference! Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar thanks for the positive feedback brother 🙏🤘😃
Gonna get this with the Randall rx120 half stack
Dude you're an absolute tone moster!!! mine does NOT sound like that lmfaoo
Mine does. I love this cheap GEM!! Cant wait to upgrade....
You gotta get you one one of them fancy metal amps, like a JCM 800 or Triple Rec
Such a Tasteeeee Jam!!! Oh Hungry? Oh Hell Yeaaah.
Just bought one from long and McQuade will be delivered in a cpl days. 1st 7 string.
3:44 fire riff
4:54 gets a sub
ALL THESE RIFFS FIRE
dime would be proud.
That was a great review! I’m looking forward to receiving my 7 string. I’m not familiar with running down and was curious what you had yours strings tuned to?
To be honest I usually keep my 7 strings in standard tuning, but drop my low string to A#. Congrats on the new 7 string! Cheers -Ryan
I have that guitar, and I love it!! the one thing o Don't like is the height that comes by default so I need to ask... what is the string height that you use and recommend for this guitar?
Picked up a Schecter CR-6 about a year ago, but its a hardtail 6 string, I think I might pick one of these up with GC's GuitarAThon to try out a hardtail 7 string.
I used to have one i miss it
Im torn between this and an Ibanez Gio GRG7221 metallic blue with a maple neck. The longer scale seems nice, and one comment here said the fretwork is great. I was gonna go with Ibanez for sure since I already own 2, but this thing sounds badass. Personally I prefer the Ibanez looks-wise, plus I like all the tuners being on one side, but that’s just me. I’ve heard mixed reviews on the Ibanez. Regardless of what I get, I’ll be replacing the tuners with locking ones and installing a hipshot bridge, at the very least. Probably a graphtech nut, and new pickups eventually. I really liked how clear and punchy the ionizers sounded in Tosin’s demo video.
With the Ibanez you’ll have to order a different Hipshot bridge, which may or may not work with the height of your Ibanez. The Hipshot bridge for the Jackson you would just choose .175. I actually installed Ionizers in this guitar. I have a video comparing the stock with the Ionizers. Best of luck on your decision. Cheers -Ryan
Im having the same problem, Im leaning towards this with the w maple fretboard
i wanted a 7 string and decided on this one. for all of u coming to the comment b4 the vid. its good.
Una bestia.
That first riff is wicked as fuck. 🤘😈🤘
Hey Ryan, so I’ve decided to build up my 7 string thanks for the inspiration! Last thing I need to order are the tuners. I am having a hard time finding the string post length. Would you be able to help with this ? Thx
Post length isn’t so much an issue with 7 strings. Generally that would apply to older Les Paul vs newer Les Paul are something similar... or Fender vs Gibson and such. Standard 7 string tuners will work just fine. I’d recommend Sperzel EZ mounts... you can flip the tuners around and no drilling! Cheers -Ryan
JS22-7 + JCM 900 🔥🔥🔥
I got this guitar, and I have only positive things to say.
First of all I own a Solar 6-string 1000€ guitar, a 300€ Dean guitar and a 300€ Epiphone guitar. I have my Solar as my main guitar and it has, as expected, the best feeling and the best sound from all of my oldest guitars.
I wanted to try a 7 string guitar but I didn't want to spend a fortune because I was not sure if I really wanted a 7-string in my collection. So I spotted this Jackson and ordered it.
When it arrived I could not believe that Jackson is selling this guitar for 230€. The feeling this Jackson is giving to me is closer to my 1000€ guitar rather than the 300€ cheapest ones. I was afraid that an extra string would be an extra headache to my guitar playing but no, I am playing this guitar like I had a 7 strings in my whole life. It never bothered me to re-learn the 7 string thing. Does it sound good? Considering the price range yes id does, it has an OK sound, maybe Dean's and Epiphone's stock pickups are better, but they do the job. The overall experience and the feeling makes me believe that in the future I will invest for better pickups and other goods (locking tuners for example) so this Jackson will have for me a the perfect feeling and sound.
