2:50 - Exactly! I'd say the show and CaitVi turned out this good because women were deeply involved in the writing and overall creative process. Most of the animators for THAT scene were also women, and the French don’t hold back. In case you didn’t know, Amanda actually fought to keep the line "You’re hot, Cupcake" in Season 1, and it became an *iconic* line. She’s the biggest force we have to thank.
Fun fact: But (or thank God?) the word cupcake itself actually comes from the game (Amanda Overton admitted this). Caitlyn has what are called Yordle traps (invented by a Yordle rather than used to hunt one), a sort of bear trap with a cupcake as bait.
That scene does show without saying....i like how Caitlyn took the key from the ground, stopped, opened the cell, stopped waited for Vi to vent ..... During their intimate moments, Caitlyn let Vi take control considering the environment and how the wrong move can be triggering for Vi. Caitlyn is very observant and patient with her boo Vi ...I like how she took her shirt first, making herself vulnerable for Vi while slowly and gently undressed Vi

Sooo when Cait puts a bag on Vi's head, and slowly slides it down, my theory is that she's very drawn to Vi but as per usual keeps herself on a distance, not just because she has a black belt in swallowing her feelings and intimate desires for the greater cause and her duties, but also because she feels Vi is not open to her. She wronged Vi, broke her heart basically, never bothered to find her to make things right because of hyperfocusing on her revenge mission.. oh and "cheated" with an enforcer! Yikes! So I think at that point she has a deep insecurity and zero idea of whether or not Vi would still be even interested in having her in her life, romantically or otherwise. But then there's this moment where Vi's eyes are covered with a bag while her lips are still visible, Caitlyn looks at those lips with so much care and longing! When Vi cannot see her emotions anymore, Cait can't hide them any longer. It looks as if she slows down on purpose, to take in that fleeting moment of connection and hope. After holding back from jumping into Vi's arms, afraid of rejection, the second best she could get was that spit smear 🤣 Seriously though, people should give Cait some credit, for how she hated herself for turning her back on Vi (literally and metaphorically) and on her values, and saw no way out anymore, and didn't believe she could ever be forgiven.
I agree with most of this, but I wouldn’t say she "cheated" exactly. It was clear they were no longer together, and Vi had also left. Ginger seemed more like a rebound and a way to cope with the guilt and fill the void left by Vi.

I'm so here for you simping for these characters haha, it's so much fun and exactly what I need at the moment 😂 It's insane to me how much I'm still thinking about them a month after Arcane ended. I love how you keep highlighting how good their scene in episode 8 is from a narrative standpoint as well. It really does convey so much without any need for explicit dialogue. It's very refreshing to enjoy that scene together with someone who looks at it the same way, without having to argue with someone who keeps insisting it's unnecessary or only there as fanservice :)

OMG the amount of tiktok edits, comic videos with fan voices, memes and comics with AI voices I have binged on... The prison scene is sensual, intimate, without being pornographic. It's a crown on a very well written series.
I'm just grinning and laughing with you. Caitlyn and Vi are basically the epitome of great character writing, along with their character designs. They're not static, they grow and evolve, very much like real human beings. Fortiche have perfected their craft to make regular human beings simp for animated pixels. I think its the way they've drawn the eyes so that they are not perfect circles, only the hex-gems are perfect spheres, it gives them actual character without dialogue. The incredible attention to detail is mind-blowing.

Can’t ignore the fan base, and 4K fans in a movie theater loudly screaming when the kiss and love scene happened. I got a good feeling we might see these two again. Yes, the characters got more good looking in season 2, but the artistic process at Fortiche got better. Fortiche had said a kiss between Cait and Vi could not have happened because they didn’t have the right process for it. Yes please, more of this and fan art. Also yes to making your Vi jacket. The secret is in the microexpressions, which is also the case with many video games these days. Real actors often fail to convey what the scene demands, but an animator does. That is why, in my opinion, these types of animations and video games generate things that traditional cinema does not.
It's strange yet comforting to realize how deeply Arcane has impacted so many people. My mind felt overwhelmed, caught between intense emotions and the sudden understanding that it wasn’t just me-that an entire community has been equally moved. Somehow, that shared experience is its own kind of solace. Thank you for sharing and creating this space. I watched the Fantastic scene a few more times (for science, of course!) and noticed some crazy details - First of all, they animated Vi’s tongue 🤤 - They added the lunula (the white crescent shaped thing at the base of your nail) to their fingernails - I know you mentioned this already Claudie, but the muscle movement in Vi’s back as Caitlyn takes off her shirt is so realistic! - The way they animated the deformation of Vi’s tattoo as Caitlyn drags her hand across her back… damn - At the end when Caitlyn leans her head back against the wall, you can see her nostrils are different sizes. Amazing little detail since most of the time animated characters are completely symmetrical Also I’m not 100% convinced about the knee thing, but definitely waiting to see your scientific analysis, Claudie! 😄

Very important if you ask me (I commented this earlier, but I added a link to the gif of that on twitter so if this is a double post then I'm sorry lol, but I suspect my comment got deleted because of the link).
The colors in Cait's clothes are very important (well all the characters but talking about Caitlyn) her first outfit as an adult is blue, that is her conection with piltover and blue usualy is a calm color, when she goes to Zaun with Vi although it is new for her she is trying to blend in and learn so her clothes are a mix between red/pink and blue, purple, it is her conection to Zaun and to Vi. When Vi goes up to piltover she is much more resiliant to blend with piltover so her clothes dont change much but she still gets piltovers colors for her conection to Cait and Jayce, her gauntlets are blue and gold. The scene were Vi left Cait in the rain is because of her atachment problems but also because of how Caitlyn being rich makes Vi feel uncomfortable or inadecuate and uses that as an excuse and the clothes that Cait is wearing also ads to it, she is again in piltovers colors, blue and gold. In S2 her neck band is red, in S1 it was blue, calm and kind, red in lightning and clothes in arcane is violence, so now the violence that she got from jinx is making her be violent too and it is choking her. Then she wears only blue with her uniform, red with ambessa and black when she acceprs he rmistakes, wants to be better but at the same time knows the bad stuff will never go away. The character design and color theory of this show is increadible 🩷💙 Sorry, lots of comments but watching the video new topics appear jaja.
Since I was familiar with league prior to arcane, it was really fun watching vi's character design get closer and closer to what it is in the game. I didn't even realise how different her season 1 hair was from her splash art hair and assumed it was just an art style thing until I saw what it looked like in s2 act 3 and went "oh yeah, thats what vi's hair looks like"
Cait & Vi deserve continue their story, not only some interaction in future noxus project but a complete spinoff movie( a lot lore what have Zaun Piltover to explore)

I've also been always more attracted to women/female characters like Caitlyn and Mel. But Vi awoke something in me ngl. It was quite confusing at first, but I've now accepted that I need her in a biblical way 😌

It's got me in a straight jacket!" uhhhhhh idk how I would describe it but that is decidedly *not* it... ;D Side note: the expressiveness of the eyes in the characters of Arcane is the one of the big reasons I think that people (myself included) are so attached to them. There's an intrinsic level of emotional, human recognition that occurs between the viewer and the "rigs" as you called them (lol) that I've not seen to this level or effectiveness in any other animated work, especially of something that's 3d modeled. The paintbrush-y textures also sell the 3d modeling as well oddly enough. They've skirted uncanny valley and made the characters so believable and human it's insane. Another note: Your point about Caitlyn's stolen outfit (given to her by... Violet) being well, violet is pretty funny, I never caught onto that.

I think Vi is the real triumph of a character. Cait is great, but there are a lot of female characters like her - the hot rich girl who doesn't know she's hot and has her partner bring the best out of her. Vi is unlike any other woman presented in any media imo. She's masculine in a lot of her mannerisms and traits yet is emotional, sensitive, caring, independent like the best female characters. You can't just sub her out for a dude it wouldn't work which contradicts the claim that to write good female characters you just write them like boys. She's a marvel and I totally get how she's become the gay awakening icon she is.
@ hmm one of my favourite things about the show is their attention to detail when it comes to parallels and duality. I really liked the one edit that showed similar shots of Cait and Vi being framed in the same way. There’s also the parallels between Vander and Silco/vi and Powder, Zaun and Piltover. Lol this is me just rambling. It’s really genius how they did the show. There are so many call backs and foreshadowing from season 1 that I’ve realized tie into season 2 and on each rewatch I notice something new. Since you just started watching the show, it would be really cool to see what things you have picked up on.

For the "scientific analysis," you should watch the scene again with audio description on (where there's a literal voiceover of the actions), just for entertainment value. I agree with the chin thing in The Scene™ , I had the same thought when we saw her from that perspective. A more pronounced shadow under her chin would've done a world of good, since that angle is really hard to portray well and 90% of the time the character ends up looking like a thumb. That, or her chin was too sexy and had to be blurred. Also, I burst out laughing when you were trying to make a point and had to change the frame you paused on since it was cait being too distracting for words, only to end up on another hot frame... twice.
Their love scene was so well handled, it isnt sexualiced, it makes sense with both of their characters and it had so much parallels and character development ( im not even talking about Cait touching Vi's wound) Sex does not mean fan service or unnecessary. I dont understand how peple can watch all of season 1 and see all the things they do for eachother and think that their relationship is based on lust 🤦
2 things I was reminded of when I rewatched it here. Vi's nosestrip is not the "I can breathe better with it" type I am pretty sure it is the "Oops I broke my nose" type. And her belly bandage was not caused by Cait, it was covering the cut she got from the Noxian soldier during Warwick's amok run. The light coming from between the bars basically prevents a chin shadow there. It is not coming from above.
Firstly, I would like to say that I love the reaction to the video and also how you still can highlight small details. Secondly, I would be interested to see another reaction to the edits on instagram and maybe some fanart. There's also some really good ones on youtube that show the development of the relationship a little better. These are also a bit more nuanced. And thirdly, the relationship between Vi and Cait. That's more how I feel about it and my opinion. I would love to see more of these two characters. The development between them is captured so well in all the little details. In the facial expressions and gestures and the minimal dialogue they usually only have. They're both very attractive, of course, but what I can appreciate way more is how they treat each other and how they stand up for each other and everything in between. And all this development right up to the end. And I think we've already got quite a lot, but I would have liked to see more of how they talk to each other, how they discuss things and how they treat each other. I'm so attached to them because I like their dynamic so much and I think it's a shame that we haven't seen more of them as a duo. Especially now that the relationship is relatively clear but still seems so fragile, as you can see in ‘Are you still in this fight’ and maybe also Caits look at the End. Now to see the two of them together in Piltover and Zaun fighting the ‘evil’ and developing themselves and their relationship would be the greatest thing. And I'm clinging to that hope based on snippets from interviews and opinions from random dudes on the internet. That's why it's so hard for me to let go. One small detail. After the breakup, Vi keeps the belt and the badge from her Enforcer uniform. She just removes the emblem from the badge. You can see both on her Goth/Raccon outfit. Maybe because she doesn't want to give up Cait completely and don´t want to throw away what cait gave her?

Its a good watch on their relationship and also how tthe writing managed to convey so much with the ' show dont tell' that so many other shows are lacking.

One of the reasons I love Arcane is they don't push any sort of messaging on the audience. They don't make Cait and Vi's relationship a manufactured set piece to check a box or to be deliberately edgy. It feels real and genuine and not a single moment of their interactions feels forced.

I love how you keep highlighting how good their scene in episode 8 is from a narrative standpoint as well. It really does convey so much without any need for explicit dialogue. It's very refreshing to enjoy that scene together with someone who looks at it the same way, without having to argue with someone who keeps insisting it's unnecessary or only there as fanservice :)

I'm just grinning and laughing with you. Caitlyn and Vi are basically the epitome of great character writing, along with their character designs. They're not static, they grow and evolve, very much like real human beings. Fortiche have perfected their craft to make regular human beings simp for animated pixels. I think its the way they've drawn the eyes so that they are not perfect circles, only the hex-gems are perfect spheres, it gives them actual character without dialogue. The incredible attention to detail is mind-blowing.

Fortiche had said a kiss between Cait and Vi could not have happened because they didn’t have the right process for it. Yes please, more of this and fan art. Also yes to making your Vi jacket. The secret is in the microexpressions, which is also the case with many video games these days. Real actors often fail to convey what the scene demands, but an animator does. That is why, in my opinion, these types of animations and video games generate things that traditional cinema does not.

I watched the Fantastic scene a few more times (for science, of course!) and noticed some crazy details
- First of all, they animated Vi’s tongue 🤤
- They added the lunula (the white crescent shaped thing at the base of your nail) to their fingernails
- I know you mentioned this already Claudie, but the muscle movement in Vi’s back as Caitlyn takes off her shirt is so realistic!
- The way they animated the deformation of Vi’s tattoo as Caitlyn drags her hand across her back… damn
- At the end when Caitlyn leans her head back against the wall, you can see her nostrils are different sizes. Amazing little detail since most of the time animated characters are completely symmetrical
Also I’m not 100% convinced about the knee thing, but definitely waiting to see your scientific analysis, Claudie! 😄

The colors in Cait's clothes are very important (well all the characters but talking about Caitlyn) her first outfit as an adult is blue, that is her conection with piltover and blue usualy is a calm color, when she goes to Zaun with Vi although it is new for her she is trying to blend in and learn so her clothes are a mix between red/pink and blue, purple, it is her conection to Zaun and to Vi. When Vi goes up to piltover she is much more resiliant to blend with piltover so her clothes dont change much but she still gets piltovers colors for her conection to Cait and Jayce, her gauntlets are blue and gold.
The scene were Vi left Cait in the rain is because of her atachment problems but also because of how Caitlyn being rich makes Vi feel uncomfortable or inadecuate and uses that as an excuse and the clothes that Cait is wearing also ads to it, she is again in piltovers colors, blue and gold.
In S2 her neck band is red, in S1 it was blue, calm and kind, red in lightning and clothes in arcane is violence, so now the violence that she got from jinx is making her be violent too and it is choking her. Then she wears only blue with her uniform, red with ambessa and black when she acceprs he rmistakes, wants to be better but at the same time knows the bad stuff will never go away. The character design and color theory of this show is increadible 🩷💙

Since I was familiar with league prior to arcane, it was really fun watching vi's character design get closer and closer to what it is in the game. I didn't even realise how different her season 1 hair was from her splash art hair and assumed it was just an art style thing until I saw what it looked like in s2 act 3 and went "oh yeah, thats what vi's hair looks like"

Side note: the expressiveness of the eyes in the characters of Arcane is the one of the big reasons I think that people (myself included) are so attached to them. There's an intrinsic level of emotional, human recognition that occurs between the viewer and the "rigs" as you called them (lol) that I've not seen to this level or effectiveness in any other animated work, especially of something that's 3d modeled. The paintbrush-y textures also sell the 3d modeling as well oddly enough. They've skirted uncanny valley and made the characters so believable and human it's insane.
Another note: Your point about Caitlyn's stolen outfit (given to her by... Violet) being well, violet is pretty funny, I never caught onto that.
Everyone say thank you to the people who redesigned the characters at Fortiche. The redesigns just give Vi and Caitlyn so much life.
Ahhhh, can't wait for the scientific research video of _that_ scene.

I think Vi is the real triumph of a character. Cait is great, but there are a lot of female characters like her - the hot rich girl who doesn't know she's hot and has her partner bring the best out of her.
Vi is unlike any other woman presented in any media imo. She's masculine in a lot of her mannerisms and traits yet is emotional, sensitive, caring, independent like the best female characters. You can't just sub her out for a dude it wouldn't work which contradicts the claim that to write good female characters you just write them like boys. She's a marvel and I totally get how she's become the gay awakening icon she is.

@ hmm one of my favourite things about the show is their attention to detail when it comes to parallels and duality. I really liked the one edit that showed similar shots of Cait and Vi being framed in the same way. There’s also the parallels between Vander and Silco/vi and Powder, Zaun and Piltover. Lol this is me just rambling. It’s really genius how they did the show. There are so many call backs and foreshadowing from season 1 that I’ve realized tie into season 2 and on each rewatch I notice something new. Since you just started watching the show, it would be really cool to see what things you have picked up on.

I agree with the chin thing in The Scene™ , I had the same thought when we saw her from that perspective. A more pronounced shadow under her chin would've done a world of good, since that angle is really hard to portray well and 90% of the time the character ends up looking like a thumb. That, or her chin was too sexy and had to be blurred.
Also, I burst out laughing when you were trying to make a point and had to change the frame you paused on since it was cait being too distracting for words, only to end up on another hot frame... twice.

Their love scene was so well handled, it isnt sexualiced, it makes sense with both of their characters and it had so much parallels and character development ( im not even talking about Cait touching Vi's wound) Sex does not mean fan service or unnecessary. I dont understand how peple can watch all of season 1 and see all the things they do for eachother and think that their relationship is based on lust 🤦

2 things I was reminded of when I rewatched it here. Vi's nosestrip is not the "I can breathe better with it" type I am pretty sure it is the "Oops I broke my nose" type. And her belly bandage was not caused by Cait, it was covering the cut she got from the Noxian soldier during Warwick's amok run. The light coming from between the bars basically prevents a chin shadow there. It is not coming from above.

Firstly, I would like to say that I love the reaction to the video and also how you still can highlight small details.
Secondly, I would be interested to see another reaction to the edits on instagram and maybe some fanart. There's also some really good ones on youtube that show the development of the relationship a little better. These are also a bit more nuanced.
And thirdly, the relationship between Vi and Cait. That's more how I feel about it and my opinion.
I would love to see more of these two characters. The development between them is captured so well in all the little details. In the facial expressions and gestures and the minimal dialogue they usually only have. They're both very attractive, of course, but what I can appreciate way more is how they treat each other and how they stand up for each other and everything in between. And all this development right up to the end. And I think we've already got quite a lot, but I would have liked to see more of how they talk to each other, how they discuss things and how they treat each other. I'm so attached to them because I like their dynamic so much and I think it's a shame that we haven't seen more of them as a duo. Especially now that the relationship is relatively clear but still seems so fragile, as you can see in ‘Are you still in this fight’ and maybe also Caits look at the End. Now to see the two of them together in Piltover and Zaun fighting the ‘evil’ and developing themselves and their relationship would be the greatest thing. And I'm clinging to that hope based on snippets from interviews and opinions from random dudes on the internet. That's why it's so hard for me to let go.
One small detail. After the breakup, Vi keeps the belt and the badge from her Enforcer uniform. She just removes the emblem from the badge. You can see both on her Goth/Raccon outfit. Maybe because she doesn't want to give up Cait completely and don´t want to throw away what cait gave her?

Its a good watch on their relationship and also how tthe writing managed to convey so much with the ' show dont tell' that so many other shows are lacking.

One of the reasons I love Arcane is they don't push any sort of messaging on the audience. They don't make Cait and Vi's relationship a manufactured set piece to check a box or to be deliberately edgy. It feels real and genuine and not a single moment of their interactions feels forced.
