Subtitle at 4:39 - December 2025? Btw. Any idea how to get HDR sent through WhatsApp so that most will actually have it displayed as hdr? (Sorry no Webshop; not exporting that much lately)
Oops, thanks for letting me know on that typo. No idea on WhatsApp. Phones have great support, so it would be a great platform for it. I recommend sending a request to them to make sure they know you’d like to see it supported.
A standard JPG does not. But this is a JPG with a gain map (two images in the same file). It not only offers HDR, but more importantly ensures an excellent result even if you have SDR. No tone mapping! So this is a better option than a standard JXL because (1) it is 100% backwards compatible with everything and (2) the gain map ensures vastly higher quality when full HDR support is not available. A JXL can add a gain map too, but there is basically no support. May be a great option in the future, but not anytime soon. It’s there. See the troubleshooting on this page for tips to determine why you don’t have support currently, could be a setting (or use of Chrome v131 on a computer as there is a bug in the current release which will be fixed within a few weeks at most): gregbenzphotography.com/hdr-photos/how-to-share-hdr-photos-on-instagram/
@ I am viewing it on my iPhone which supports HDR. My own Instagram has HDR videos which works fine. But I can’t still see HDR photos even if I upload jxl files.
The only approach that works consistently and with high quality is the one I showed in the video. I would definitely not upload JXL or AVIF at this time. Lack of a gain map will cause serious quality issues for people who view without HDR support, and it may fail outright (sounds like your scenario).
Hi 👋🏾, are these steps the same on windows ??
Yes, the same

The file you are loading to Instagram is jpg? How will it show as HDR? jpg doesn’t support HDR. But jxl does
