    Finished the job and it worked fine. Thanks. For anyone doing the same repair I would advise marking the position of the seal join on the cover with a permanent marker, also the orientation of the ring that sits in front of the fan... to make assembly easier.

    Thank you so much! I’ve just saved hundreds of pounds! The cable clamp was very tricky, as I didn’t open up the whole dryer. I used my husbands fishing wire. It took me around 15minutes, most of the time was taken on the cable clamp.

    Great video. I've just replaced the heater on my VTC5911NB following you, and saved over £100 in call out and parts. Only cost £40 for the heater and I did it in half the time it would have taken for someone to come out, look at it, order the parts, then come back and fix it. (Also Brownie points with the missus!). Thanks.

    Hi, can I suggest as a previous hoover engineer.
    A faster way to do this for a heater, although most engineers did not replace the little lug at the back to hold the cables as it was really a 3 minute job and we didn't want to have to part strip the front down (we were always pushed for time doing 11 jobs a day)
    However if you want to make this much easier and do it properly the is just to tie a tiny bit of string to that cable clamp, push it through, pull cables through as you show, change one at a time, push the cables back through and push rubber back in place, then gently pull the string until the clamp comes through, thats also the way they told you to do it in training. That way you just need to take the back panel and heater off, and leave the rest in place.

      +jason hounsell Great tip to overcome a difficult problem, perhaps using a nylon fishing line would make it easier. However if the viewer gets stuck they can always return to our version.

    Hi your video was very helpful, there are not a lot of videos for hoover driers out there and they are a bit of a pain as they do not have a side panel.
    I was looking at yor diagnosis video before I ordered a heating unit but the element in that has a simpler connection than the hoover one.
    Could you let me know across which two cables I should I should be checking the continuity in order to work out whether or not the element is broken.
    Thanks

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  9 лет назад +1

      +Eoin Casey We do not have the colour code for dryer elements but you can usually see damage to an element if that is the cause. A more common problem is that the over temperature cut out on the top will have failed. Both thermostats on the top should show continuity.

    Great video. Well done hoover though for making such an easy job so difficult. I think the need for the cable holder was an afterthought.... why would anyone make it so complex to remove it otherwise.
    The only problem I had was the upper fan cover which would not come out. My model looked slightly different than the one in the video which might explain why. I still managed to get my hand in though. Note that the screws in the front fan cover are different lengths. I think the short one goes in the right to prevent it from catching the cables behind. Not really designed for fool proof assembly!

      Hi Neil, we agree this can be a difficult repair but for anyone attempting this there is some good advise from a hoover engineer on this page in the comments.

  • @David-xl9cp

    You don’t have to strip the machine JUST to reclip.
    Loop fishing line through the grooves clip and push inside. Once heater is changed, pull the fishing line out with the tip of the clip and use small pliers.
    That’s 40+mins saved.

    Any chance you could make a video on how to replace the motor capacitor on this? I'm kinda hoping I can do it just by taking the fan and top section out.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +DJOveryde It is possible but you would have to work by touch only. See another video: ruclips.net/video/oHA0ZRt9AUM/видео.html
      You can see when the drum is out the capacitor is fitted at the top of the motor. If you use a long socket and loosen the fixing nut you can remove it with your finger tips (and washer?). Then unhook the cap and pull off the connectors. If that was't difficult enough you then have to 'offer' the cap in locate and fit the connectors with one hand by touch. and finally position and fit the nut and washer by touch again. Possible but easier to lift the drum out as shown in the other video.

    How important is it to reattach the cable clamp? A local company just did this repair for us and there’s no sign of the clamp being reattached. Thanks

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  5 лет назад

      Hi David, as described in the video the cable clamp stops the wiring from the heater moving inside if not attached can result in the wiring catching on the drum which can be dangerous so it is important.

  • @neiloliver7950
    @neiloliver7950 5 лет назад

    I am not sure I have fixed the problem. The heater works but The clothes are getting v hot and there is loads of steam in the drum. Hardly any water in the container. I’m worried the heater will fail again. I previously cleaned the condenser with a hose and Cleaned all of the air passages. The only odd thing I have seen is at the back of the machine under the condenser is a plastic cover that leads down to the water container..: this is held with two screws and is warped, but I can’t see this would cause the issue. Any ideas folks? Thank you.

  • @Waggy1971

    Instead of taking the front off the machine I fed a bent cable tie through the cable grip hole: attached strong thread to cable tie with tape and pulled it through then looped thread around cable grip and pulled it through the hole; saves a whole load of time

      Hi it's a hoover dyc8913 and the fault coming up is E08 I have replaced heating element and checked as many fuses as I can find.... the fault doesn't appear until about 20 minutes into cycle if that helps, getting plenty of air flow but no heat

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +Tom Darbey E8 is a heating error. There is a thermal fuse on the top of the heater that can easily be 'blown' if you stop the dryer when hot in the middle of the cycle. Recheck the 'thermostats' with a meter to confirm they measure 'short' on a low resistance setting as you may have occidentally 'blown' the over heat cut out.

      If the element gets damp it is likely to trip your electricity. Check the condenser is clean and the water is getting to the container. May be worth checking this video: ruclips.net/video/pxZIetevnSo/видео.html

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +DJOveryde Depending on the production number it is likely thee has been a change.With the production number we can check and supply the correct capacitor but it will work with the higher value and just use a little more power (negligible).

    hi at 2min35 you take out the fan, could you tell me how you would do this if the fan has come off and is rotating round when the dryer is (obviously I wont be doing this when its actually going round) is there an easy fix for this problem until I can get a new part for it??

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Kerry, at 2:40 Mat pushes his hand into the duct to hold the fan while he undoes the nut holding it on. If you don't hold the fan the motor is likely to turn when trying to undo the nut.

    • @kerryholroyd1610
      @kerryholroyd1610 7 лет назад

      thanks for the response, I'm in a bit of a pickle as the fan is just free wheeling, I hold the fan and the nut just turns as the fan has broke, any advice would be great.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      If you remove the heater cover at the back there is another fan attached to the motor shaft. Get some one to hold this and you can then remove the nut and front fan.

    • @eSpares

      Hi Andrew, the error code is suggesting a fault with the heater relay but it depends on whether you have a condenser or vented dryer, so check for any blockages around the heater, if condenser test the relay and vented check the TOC on the front of the dryer inside.

    Engineers were apparently drunk when designing this think and built it backwards... If the wire connectors were all based around the heating element this would be a 5 min job...
    Why do all these wires need to be replace with the heater... Such a waste, Especially when most of the connectors are right there on the top of the unit
