- After the Black Knights came the second Dragon faction. Dragon Masters dropped in 1993 and introduced us to Majisto, who has become the famous blue wizard in Lego castle. With the remake of Majisto's Magical workshop its time to dive into the History and Lore of the Dragon Masters.

The cool thing about the wolf pack member, is even if you don't like the figure you can always reverse the torso and stick a backpack or something on him to hide the logo on his back, and turn him into a generic farmer/peasant
Very true! And you can always use more peasants 😂
Wolfpack are your average thieves so like with lego city theme these are your thieve faction. You can always have 1 or 2 lurk about. So it is never a useless figure.

Agreed! Honestly even just bringing back the old one would be awesome!
They could even make the visor a separate piece (or several) to allow more expression during play.
I like to think that Majisto's Magical Workshop cottage was proofed against unwanted entry by magic. You had to use magic to get in, thus no door. Without Majisto there, you were stuck waiting outside or inside.
Man, I’m used to learning stuff from Tavern Talks, but there was a TON of new info for me in this one. Love it!

In possibly the most obscure thing I've ever spotted, the chap doing the voiceover on the UK advert was Willie Rushton, the co-founder of the famous British satirical magazine Private Eye.

GREAT video, Brad! Production values keep climbing! It's obvious that you're putting real work into these. Those zooms and pans across your (really impressive ) collection look fantastic! The research you put into these is AMAZING. You know I started all the way back with the Yellow Castle and I'm the kind of nerd who reads all the lore on the box and the ads, but there's so much of this stuff that I missed as a kid. REALLY fun to go back and see it all again. THANK YOU!

In Lego Ideas book 697 most dragon masters soldiers (with the exceptance of 4) wear the Dark Knights shield as well. There are also a few (normally) Royal Knights fighting with the Dragon masters in which one is wearing the Dragon masters shield (this one is not included in the first count). The flag in the photo is the correct flag.

I absolutely love these "deep dive" videos of yours. I'm working on a Lego Castle themed stop motion, and the dive into Castle Faction lore really helped break down who everybody was, good guys, bad guys, etc. Thanks for making these videos!

Right! Like it’s crazy how many new castle parts this theme had. And we just take it all for granted!
So, I'm working on a DnD adventure using Lego Castle factions and themes. The set-up I'm working from is that any wars of conquest by Majisto are long gone, but his services for capturing and taming dragons remain. And, when the wyvern attacks a Falcon outpost (Creator set), a quest party is dispatched from the capitol (Gold Castle) to find him and help him capture this new threat in the land.
And, I'd been toying with the idea that the Dragon Masters aren't a very large faction for my head-canon history for them. Instead of being outright evil, they're just duplicitous hacks. Kind of like in Dragon Heart where the knight would have his dragon friend start harassing a village, prompting them to seek out a Dragon Slayer, Majisto would do the same with his tamed dragon. People would come looking for his talents of controlling dragons to rid them of a problem. He would oblige for a fee. Fun and profit. Eventually, the ruse would be found out, leading to strife.
I also have been toying with the idea that his corps of soldiers and knights is small, but he can use magic to make temporary copies of the Knights, which could be told apart by the color of their plumes, and any other affectations like having or missing a cape.
Regardless of all the brain-time I've put into this, the Black Knights have always been my favorite faction for being my first castle faction to collect. And, there's a completely different set of lore there.
Dragon masters are my favorite castle faction. Era of my childhood, pure nostalgia. Dragon and Majisto are epic. I love your Castle collection on shelves in the background, almost like my diorama.😄
They are amazing such a great faction and look epic in an army!

What always annoyed me the most is that Dragon Masters had no green dragon plumes, only red, blue, yellow and white

Or you could make all factions kinda bad and kinda good from a certain point of view. Game of thrones does this really well (I don't see why you can't have magisto be nice and kind and agreeable when he needs to be and MWahaha I will destroy and conquer you when he doesn't).
Regarding the connections, I am working on this a bit in my free time (I hope Lego are working on it too), but with the little hints dropped here and there it's clear that the Dragon Masters are somewhere in a mountainous region, those are surrounded by forests - where the forestmen, dark forest and even wolfpack reside - these would be outlaws around the borders of different regions - a soft border if you will that goes back and forth between factions, on paper - while in reality it's always controlled by these outlaws, they should be somewhere near the Black knights (that are clearly bordering the Falcons and Lion knights, and said forest - and may even be lords and subfactions in a huge kingdon) and somewhere near the Royal knights, which to be perfectly honest, I just think are the lion knights who finally figured out their succession issues - and got a proper king crowned (these here may include the falcons as well as the black knights as subfactions). Willa is a manipulator and seems to do mind tricks, and not sure if she's friendly with her cousin Magisto. Either way, she then mind controls and manipulates the Royal knights - a plan that she may have had for quite a long time, to take over everything - and Basil is opposing her, or is cursed and manipulated by her as well, and we can even try to throw in some "ant magic user laws and biases" in the Royal knights (which may or may not be the other classic castle factions, before magic and dragons came here) to justify why Majist and Willa are both fighting them - while the outlaws are outlaws against everybody. .
Can't wait to see more of this idea fleshed out or confirmed by cute little retro sets (if they keep this up). This would be the best way to actually make a story - even if a softer one than GOT - that actually makes sense. I quite like the idea that the kingdoms evolved so much that they crowned a queen - but there are still opportunistic lords who may want to take advantage of her position - the Black falcon knight visiting might even be her ex husband bringing child support or a new suitor after her old husband died. In any case, so many possibilities.
Here's hoping that lego is willing to continue the super awesome nostalgia sets. the Space theme releasing in 2024 is making me hopeful.

With all the extra accessories and price points, Dragon Masters were a super consumer friendly faction. Also, Majisto and the classic green dragon are like THE icons of classic castle. So happy this finally got finished!

Majisto's torso is great to combine with the blue rag hat from pirates to make a sailor/rower for a medieval galley or other ship, especially if you're going for a more uniform military look. I like to combine them with the cloth-torso crown knights as marines. It's a shame that Lego didn't give the recent Majistos an updated torso.

Dragon Masters were easily the castle theme I had the most sets of when I was a kid, but I don't think I realized until now that I was only missing one or two set, one of those being the siege set and then maybe another of the smaller builds. I need to go dig through my collection and see if I can piece them all together.

Dragon Masters got plenty of cool stuff, but bringing too much fantasy elements kinda killed the castle theme, bringing the birth of stupid ninjago stuff.

the classic lego dragon is also one of my favourite lego creatures of all time, just a great model

Again a great episode bude the best part was Wolfpack for life! Majisto was a magician and I have always thought those spears on roof of his hous are some kind of defensive measures he could activate thorugh magic and target any intruders.
