"Get permanantly lost", "It's not that I don't want to know you Hilary, although I don't", "Don't speak Hilary, just go"
Three of the best lines I've heard in my life !! 😂😂
N.T. My favorite part of the movie!!!
Lol
Agreed!!!
The first time I saw this scene, I must've laughed about 3-4 minutes!
Mrs Kathrine Hepburn was a very classy Lady.
What a « panache » !!!
Her sign was Taurus,
that could explains her steady, strong and feminine personality.
She not only told her to go to hell, she gave her explicit & detailed directions. LOL! This movie was so brilliantly cast. Thank God Katherine & Spencer got to work together one last time right before he died.
And brilliantly written.
🤣
When she said start your motor, I knew it was about to go down... lol
Ikr :'D
+N.T. yeeeeeeeesssss she didn't have time for tha foolishness at all!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
If anyone ever wanted to see the benchmark for acting - Katherine, in this scene, is it. Every little nuiance of her acting tells a different story. From the gentle tug of Hillary's stole, the subtle crossing of her arms and staring into space as Hillary ranted, the sophisticated flick of her wrist at, "start your motor" - this lady was worth every award she received for her craft.
Ah…greed!!! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Hear hear. Won the Oscar for this then won again the next year for the lion in winter. Both incredible performances
oh how true, she was such a fine actress in the day!
the proper way to deal with racists.
Son Goku indeed
Adrian Universe AGREE TOTALLY
Exactly
Intensely curious, she meant nosey.
Except they wouldn’t get a penny from me
Although her lines are script Ed, only Kathryn Hepburn could say go to hell in such a way that you would feel compelled to call a travel agent.
Exactly!
Imperial LeBaron, I love the way you put that. Travel agent! PERFECT!
She was my idol as a teen and Audrey H. too
katharine*
Yeah man , you are spot on , she was a BABE , OL KATE !!!
That hand gesture when she says, Just go...Love it!
LOL, "Don't speak, just.......go. Both hand gestures when she said that line.
EXACTLY!!!!
"Get... Permanently... Lost..." awesome delivery, so cool yet delivered with determination and underlying menace. No anger shown, no swearing, no ambiguity, perfect!
Class act!!
It is fiction though.
Award winning scene right there!!!!
“Start you motor.” 😂
I like how slick she fired Hilary. That is what she get for being nosy.
Nozy?
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 Meaning she's shoving her nose into other people's business.
@@princesssookeh I know what it means but how she being nosy?
I love the elegant way Mrs. Christina fires Mrs. Hilary. One good lesson for anybody who "cares" too much for other people's business.
Nosey, not nosy.
I watch this scene over and over and over and I can never get enough. Every word from Hepburn's mouth is a diamond, a ruby, a gem. Every one.
Perhaps the best scene Katharine Hepburn ever did. Her vocal inflections, her hand gestures … an absolute masterclass in acting. Forever an inspiration.
“She has quite a ruthless streak, she gets it from her father.” 😂
It's funny because she clearly gets it from her mother
@@nrafter530 That's the joke.
Thai just sunk in (after the clip ended). Thank you. ("Joey! How can you be so hard?")
"Don't speak, Hillary, just go."
LOL
Kate Hepburn was a badass in this scene! :)
I agree you said it. My fave part of the movie.
I feel that this is where she got her Oscar for for this movie. It is so smooth and funny.
1956blueeyes She won an Oscar
Morning Glory, The Lion In Winter (she had a lot of monologue in that one), Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and On Golden Pond. Lots of nominations between Morning Glory and Lion in Winter. The best part is that she did not believe in "motivation" or "method" acting. According to her autobiography, she asked one actor who wanted to know his motivation from the director, "why, can't you just "act". After 4 oscars, I would take that advise and run with it.
That's why she's known as "The Great Kate!"
What a fucking boss, feel the HepBurn
I think this was one of the finest scenes ever put to film. It embodies what each of us have felt at one time or another. Plus it starred 3 of the finest actors!
She says so much in this small scene. It's amazing
$5,000 in 1967 is like $35,945 in 2016! 😮
Oh yeah, inflation...wow...
@@Mr.LaughingDuck ...probably a years wages for her...🤔
G_Man Ikr!
@@melaniemills4505 Well, I'm getting the feeling that she's not getting a recommendation from this employer, so a year's wages may be needed before she can get another job at McDonald's. ;)
“Don’t speak Hilary just (magical wave of the hand) go.” Epic!!!
The legendary Miss Katharine Hepburn, ladies & gentlemen. One of cinema history's most fiery & intense actresses. 👏
This is briliant, probably Katherine Hepburn at her best. But wait a minute: most people seem to be forgetting the part Virrginia Christine plays in this scene. Her acting is also superb: her provocation of Hepburn, the build-up and the climax. It's actually the chemistry of both these fine actresses in motion that renders the scene truly memorable.
Agreed. And most people only remember her as Mrs. Olson on the Folger's Coffee commercials.
This scene was absolutely nailed by Hepburn. The roast that Christina gave Hillary in this scene is unbelieveable and fascinating. Hepburn was just a great actress. She is surely missed very much.
In case anyone's wondering, $5,000 in 1967 is about $41,000 today (2022). So she basically sent her on her way to hell with probably a years salary 👍 Now THAT is a gangster move
👍🏾👍🏾🎯🎯✅
Virginia Christine is the actress playing "Hilary." She is best known for playing Mrs. Olson in those iconic Folgers TV commercials.
I never put them together. Thanks for that, Bro...
Damn, what a powerful scene. I've never seen this film, but it looks like it was far ahead of its time.
Totally. It's hard to believe it. How quickly some forget.
It was the pinnacle of what was the very best OF its time. We talk so much (and rightly so,) about all the terrible things regarding the 1960s that we forget that there existed some very excellent people who didn't embrace all the horrible things of that time, and who tried very, very hard to do better and be better.
It's not perfect but the acting is incredible.
it was realeased just months after interracial marriage became legal in the united states
its not that i dont want to know you Hillary although i don't... Don't speak Hillary just GO.... LEGENDARY
The very first time I ever watched this scene I stood up from my couch and gave her a standing ovation lol
When I first saw that scene, I laughed so hard I fell off my seat. I LOVE Kathryn Hepburn. I would love to see her in a scene like that with Clair Huxtable and Julia Sugarabaker. Three women you DON'T want to piss off if you want to live a full life. LOL
Imagine the reaction of the theater audience during this scene...
*This movie is cutting edge even in 2018*
How bout 2019 👏👏💯
2020!
2021... Great acting
If you like this watch Gentlemen’s Agreement, a movie with Gregory Peck. Same concept movie but the man is Jewish.
Absolutely! Seems more progressive than what's going on now.
"She has a really quite Ruthless Streak John you ought a be warned about it..... She gets it from her Father" LOL
That was so gangsta
Aboubacar Amine Riley is that u
I loved the way she said "start your motor"!! Girl bye!🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️
The best friggin scene in the movie! Kate is savage af..
Agreed
Just love this movie. I could see it 100 times and still cry in the end
Bravo to all the cast
Always like this scene. What a great way to fire someone. Only Kate Hepburn could do it with such aplomb.
I love this scene this part is Classic
No words , maybe , surreal. Love the way she says Been damn what class.
"You must try not to worry about it" and "It's not that I don't want to know you, although I don't" are going in my stash of phrases
That firing would've followed me to me grave 🤣😭, definitely one of the best clips of the movie!
No wonder Katherine Hepburn won an Academy Award for this role.
my favourite scene of any movie. perfection.
Queen you could have just said BYE😎, but this is so much better.
Today is the 50th anniversary of Loving v Virginia, in honor of which, I watch immortal clips from this classic classic.
Wow that's how you tell someone off 👍 Katherine Hepburn is so badass in this scene.. I love this movie 😍
This is how we should dismiss people out of our lives!!! ✌🏾❤️
Man, oh, man. "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" is indeed one of great movies of American history. The acting and dialogue is superb.
"And take your nasty coffee with you!"
Folgers...lol!!!
This is the most elegant way ive ever seen anyone get fired.
1:22 Katharine Hepburn is a Jedi!
"Move along. Move along."
"She's got a bit of a ruthless streak, gets it from her father" like we didn't just watch you tell someone to piss off in the most cutting way I never knew existed lol
That's the joke. 😛
What a movie. It came out 6-7 years before I was born. This is one of my favorite tell off scenes ever in a movie. My mom told me that just a little over 2 weeks after this movie wrapped, Spencer Tracy died . He was nominated posthumously for best actor, although he did not receive it. Other actors have been nominated posthumously and won. James Dean won for Giant, and more recently Hearth Ledger won for the role of the Joker in The Dark Knight.
James Dean didnt win. Peter Finch (Network) won in 1976.
And Yul Brynner won in 1956 for “The King and I.”
Don't speak Hilary ..just drive
This is one of those classics that took me awhile to get to, only because there are so many! But man, I was blown away by this scene! It was sheer perfection!
There are many roles of Katherine Hepburn's where she can tell someone off with grace and dignity. This is one of my favorites. She just wasn't having that kind of hateful attitude around her. She's just incredible.
Possibly the best movie ever made. So many layers to it.
LOL, "Joey how can you be so hard"......
That's pure empowerment! Love her.
Yasss!!!!
What a REMARKABLE scene. Only Katherine Hepburn could have delivered those lines with such tremendous power.
God for you Ms. Hepburn. That was perfect. "Don't speak Hillary, just go. JOEY !
How can you be so hard ? She she has really ruthless streak John. You ought to be
warned about it. She get's it from her father. Perfect
the most iconic scene
Love that Scene, it is a masterpiece in acting and perfect timing by both them but especially KH
“Hilary why didn’t you simply ring up with the information.” Christina saw through Hilary’s BS.
.. as much as I adore Katherine Hepburn, I couldn't understand what she said then. Now I know and can figure out what she meant. Thank you for putting it down here. Appreciate it 👍🏼😁
One of the best movie scenes
I agree love this scene.
Go back to selling coffee, Hillary.
Katherine at her absolute BEST!
Another example of a timeless classic which has style! Superb acting. Excellent script. One of those rare films that make you go along with them as the story unfolds.
I like Hillary's Plymouth as well as the Falcon station wagon parked on the left.
The itty bitty tug on her mink, just says 'An itty bitty tug, for an itty bitty woman.' Hepburn knew her stuff.
Kate's perfect timing, Kate's rhythm in speaking, just like great music...I always loved and admired her, most of all in comedies... fascinating!!!
Thank you for this one. It is one of the most effective (and funny) way I have ever seen of some getting told off (in no uncertain terms)!
My absolute favorite part of the movie!!
Damnit , one of the greatest scenes in cinema history !!
My ALL time favorite movie....and by far this is the baddest female scene in theatrical history. Period...(drops the mic and exits stage left)
"Don't speak Hillary, just... GO!"
I never get tired of watching this scene over and over and over .... I love it 😂
Always loved her acting but this scene she really put herself in it. She gets it from her father. Lol
This is what has been the amazness of her career in Hollywood - one amazing fantastic awesome actor.
0:13 "Why didn't you simply ring up with the Cazalet information?"
Is it just me, or does it sound like Hepburn says "Bring up" and not "Ring up?"
The daughter is Hepburn's niece in real life.
Dat hand gesture...my god the shade! Gurl annilated her!😂😂😂
Whenever I talk about my favorite scenes in any movie of all time I always mention this scene
It was precise, direct, classic and with no raised voices but you knew exactly how Katharine felt
"I want you to go straight back to the gallery - start your motor - when you get back..." she really took time in the *middle* of her line to say "You're not GTFO'ing fast enough for me"...all in three words 😂
Brilliant!!! best scene EVER!!!!
This was one of the greatest movies ever made! If you know the story behind the making of this movie it's ever a greater movie. The main characters put up their own money to make it and they weren't sure Spencer would survive to see it completed.
The hand acting that goes with "Don't speak Hilary, just go." is what won her the oscar
don't speak just go
Superb!!!!!!!!!
Quite a few bigots and racists I would like to tell to go "get permanently lost", most are in the House of Reps!
MsPinecone123 Or indeed Donald Trump.
And in some cases, members of your own family...
Weirdly enough I'm starting to see more and more bigots in the other house too ...
Great scene! Think of all the times in your life you wanted to tell some nosy body to get lost!
I just watched this for the first time ! One of those films I've been meaning to watch for a long time and I finally got around to it. This is the greatest shade I've ever seen dropped ever! I absolutely love Katharine Hepburn!
Really, the best scene in the movie.
Its the hand gesture for me "Don't speak, Hillary. Just go." I can never get over this scene. It is just too good. Ms Hepburn was an amazing actress. All incapsulated in one scene. Perfection.
JEDI MIND TRICK! At 1:22, holy shit! Katharine Hepburn was a Jedi!
"You want to go home and rethink your life."
This is the most beautiful movie scene! How courageous she is!
MY FAVORITE........I WISH MOST PEOPLE HAD THE WISDOM OF THIS CHARACTER IN THE MOVIE................I DO
Oooooooof, this was HARSH. I loved it!
She threw SERIOUS shade at Mrs. Folgers!
Normally, the words Hepburn and gangster wouldn't be in the same sentence,.....but, after seeing this scene......
Louise fletcher does so well in movies. She was particularly scary in Flowers in the Attic
omf this scene is the best
I agree. Classic!!
Christina SLAYED 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
God, Kathryn Hepburn had such a devastating delivery. I adore her.
