Spencer was dying during the making of this film and died just two weeks after this film was made Katherine was his partner in real life and Joanna was her real life niece . A film still far ahead of its time ❤️RIP Sidney 🙏❤️🙏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
One of my very favorite films, and way ahead of its time. My best friend growing up was a black gal and we never knew we were color blind until we were much older. She is still my best friend 💓.
That's incorrect, Tracy was married, but his strict catholic upbringing meant that he could never divorce his wife, but Hepburn did have a 20 year affair with him.
RIP to all the good ones we lost.🙏🕯🕯🕯
RIP Spencer Tracy (April 5, 1900 - June 10, 1967), aged 67
RIP Katherine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 - June 29, 2003), aged 96
RIP Sidney Poitier (February 20, 1927 - January 6, 2022), aged 94
You will always be remembered as legends.
The boat horn blowing when the dad sat down was a detail that wasn't lost on me.
How could she NOT fall in love with sidney poitier! ???
Melania MoneyPenny Seriously!! So effing handsome!!!
Melania MoneyPenny Who's more handsome, Sidney Poitier or Denzel Washington?
Who’s Sidney?
Your so correct
He was pure class
Because he's ugly?
the acting is so good that you don't know they were actors
Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn together are the perfect onscreen couple.
The best movie ever written. It spoke volumes to my mothers generation and she liked this film .
mine too
Who wouldn't fall in love with Sidney?
The foghorn at the very end is a brilliant detail, perfectly timed.
I am watching the movie now on TCM right now!!!! I LOVE Spencer Tracy and Sidney Poitier!!!!!
This is one of my favorite movies. The love and devotion between Tracy and Hepburn is so obvious that you can actually feel it.
I love the half tied tie, and sticking up collar giving him a dishevelled appearance. A nice touch.
Nothing but legendary people in this one
Well spoken there by sidney poitier's character
The most absolute test of racism. Who would you allow your daughter to marry?
I was very surprised back around the mid-1980s when my mother was talking about a male friend of my niece , Angel , who she went to school with for years .
My mother said God forbid Angel should marry him and she would be so embarrassed to have a black baby for the neighbors to see .
I was surprised to hear my mom speaking in such a way .
Many years later they did get married ... and have the most beautiful and charming son .
@@gardensofthegods How did your mother react when the son was born?
If I had a daughter, anybody she wanted, as long as she was happy and as long as they were good to her.
@@geoffwilliams4478 Nowadays you would think that MOST would feel that way….but they don’t.
I love how Spencer looked at Kat at the end 😄
I recall seeing this movie for the first time, having never even heard of a fellow named Spencer Tracy, and when I saw him I thought to myself "that old man really knows how to steal a scene". Since then, Spencer has become one of my top 3 favorite actors of all time.
When I hear Spencer talking in this movie he reminds me a lot of John Mahoney in Frasier
I was just thinking exactly this then saw this comment.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner ?
Sydney Poitier !
😂It took him a while to realize something was going on.
what a great Actor Sidney was .
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾such CLASS!!
I really admire the father for being so open-minded.
Wellll, he was NOT so “open minded” at the beginning and neither at the end- he came to a “resolve” with him. He “resolved” that they would have to “ride out” the criticism, hatred, and bigotry they would experience from the world but they would have no problem with him.
I’ve never seen this movie and I was a teen when this came out in theaters.
One of my favorite movies
I loved
To sir with love
In the heat of the night
I guess, all Sidney films 😂
Uptown Saturday Night with Bill Cosby was pretty funny.
I couldn't agree more, 1967 was (The Year of Poitier).
Patch of Blue and To Sir, with Love are another of my Sidney Poitier favorites 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾. Classy actor indeed 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
.... you may dance the Watusi.... but, we ARE the Watusi.......
How tall is Sidney Poitier ? Fricking Specer is 5'10 and Mr. Poitier makes him look short
6'2 - 6-3 with his shoes maybe
Spence was probably 5'8" or 5'9" tops by this time.
Well I can tell you my mom was beautiful and still is she could have had a white person to fall in love with but she chose my dad. I for one am very happy she chose him because my dad is a smart engineer that works very hard and provides for us very well. It probably would have been a little easier on my mom if she chose a white person but I feel like her life is better than it would have been if she did. That is my opinion.
Sorry let me restate that my dad was a very ,and still is, hansom man this post was originally meant to be a reply to a different comment but I decided I want to share it this way I'll change that.
@Joe M How did you reach your conclusion from what Emma wrote?
You beautiful child xx
Joe M She probably does subconsciously. Sad.
You're describing marriage like buying new car or something. Like weighing all the options on paper.
Whichever race, I hope your mom chose to marry the man she loved. You can choose not to marry outside your race or religious faith. You can't choose who fall in love with.
It just happens.
Color didn't make a difference with him You wouldn't have been normal not to fall in love with him
Tell me you didn’t 😆 laugh after he said, I’m in love with your daughter.
When I saw it for a second time in the mid '70's, I laughed at other things.
two power house actors
3 !
i don’t get why they’re getting married after knowing each other only ten days though…
Exactly - as a parent, I’d be much more concerned about that aspect. He’s a widower, presumably much older, and they met randomly in Hawaii. In 10 days they are wanting to get married? That sounds like an enormous red flag.
Because he was leaving to go save the world and, back in those days, the only thing more scandalous than an interracial married couple would've been an interracial unmarried couple if she went traipsing off with him to save the world.
Well, at least they've known each other for that long. Many marriages in the '50's and even the '60's, were prearranged without the couple really knowing each other.
Back then, there were two reasons why marriages happened so suddenly at the snap of your fingers practically:
1). People were happy and content with the way the economy was, even though the life expectancy was not as advanced as it is today.
2). People were more trustworthy than they are today. Men were really gentlemen and knew their place in the world, and much as women (especially the young women of that time) had to fight and protest for their rights of that time, that didn't stop them from being respectful to their intended men.
People knew to respect their partners/intended and didn't focus so much on their differences and learned about respect before going out in the world.
To SOME ppl it is LOVE at first sight AND that does happen SOMEtimes. Rare but it does happen and RARE that those marriages last a lifetime
They make such beautiful couple. I wish they had dressed better.
The asiatic Lion They seemed dressed ok
Dressed Better How?
I have a drink
Spencer Tracey was sick, but to me he looked okay, just old.
He was 67 but looked 80, 85.
@@jamesanthony5681 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🎯🎯🎯. Exactly. He looks as old as Biden and Biden is 81yrs old.
The most unbelievable part of this rather dated movie is that there is no way a person like Sidney Poitier’s character would want to spend the rest of his life with that airhead. She comes off as a sheltered simpleton.
What are you talking about? She's sweet and likeable and wants to be of help, and brave too, knowing what she'd be up against. And to top ut off she's pretty; what's the problem?!
She's attractive, college educated?, and has had good parenting. She may be sheltered, but she'd learn.
Oh he would LOVE her too. Like he told his mother….she was like no one he had ever met. Childlike, energetic and very pretty. When you truly fall in love with someone..and I do mean TRULY FALL IN LOVE….you do NOT see or focus on ….flaws, race, skin color, ethnicity and etc.
What the hell is going here
Jungle fever
No, just two ppl who happen to fall in love with each other. Their “skin” PROBLEM is only a PROBLEM to those who see/meet them bcz to them, there is NO SKIN PROBLEM.
What's this movie about
+Fa Lala an interracial couple who are in love and are trying to get married while there families react to the racial mixing
+Turkish Spaghettie lol thanks for replying
Fa Lala no problem dude
Turki
It gave an at-the-time rare positive portrayal of a marriage between a Black man and White woman
It's about the death of the white race.
What the hell is going on here
He halfway out tye and all them what the H is going on here and he explains it rather reluctantly but
mmm_NMM THIS GREAT FILM I LIKED
👼🏽🇮🇹💯 “no problem”
Fell in love. Does not cut it anymore Stateside? Matt Drayton. Yoho little fishes don't cry don't cry. Where are your Captain Courageous' when you need them to defend virtue signalling and what nots. Freddie Bartholomew also played Little Lord Fauntleroy? Was the Butler surnamed Cadbury? I do hope so. Oh no. Richie Rich. That was Cadbury played by ...
Classic shit
