      I’ve seen the video before of the woman with anxiety. The nurse saying that’s not medical. And she was uncooperative. It breaks my heart. Yes… she was drunk… but anxiety is a medical condition! That nurse dropped the ball!! She could have acknowledged her and helped in ways to “behave” and we will work with you. That other officer has anger issues. He does not know how to calm things. The nurse and that officer need more education. I do not mean that in a bad way.

      He is definitely dangerous. My kids' father was an alcoholic and he would have a loaded gun pointed at me, frequently. I called the cops a few times, but two of the State Troopers lived on our street and they were also alcoholics and would drink with him sometimes, so they never responded to my calls. Fortunately, but for the Grace of God, neither my kids or I were harmed, but it was close sometimes. They recently told me (they are in their 50's) that when he was home alone with them at all, he would slap them around and got very violent. They ever told me before this. They said it was just a way of life with him. I did divorce him when the kids were quite young. Best thing I ever did. He died an alcoholic in his 80's.

    I've been in the Portland jail quite a few times. I've only ever encountered two kind officers, one I'll never forget. I was detoxing, and another woman was in the changing area to be processed in the jail with me, and she mentioned she wanted chocolate so bad right now, and I said candy would be good to since I was detoxing. The CO got two small candies out her pocket, and gave them to us. We quickly ate them, and she tossed the wrappers. It may sound dumb, but that small act of kindness meant a lot to me. Gladly I'm sober and haven't been back in this jail for a long time though.

    "I have panic attacks."
    "Okay, well that's fine. I don't need to know about that right now. You're not going to have a panic attack."
    Whether she does have panic attacks or not, there's still so much to unpack in this conversation. For starters, Panic Disorder is NOT depression. Sure, it can cause depression, but they are two very DIFFERENT medical conditions. Yes, I call panic disorder and depression "medical conditions" because they are. Mental health is just as important as physical health. In fact, poor mental health can lead to poor physical health, and vice versa.
    It's horrible that in most countries mental health disorders are not seen as medical conditions. Especially considering the high number of s^icides, high number of unavailable beds in psych wards, high number of misdiagnosed mental conditions, and high number of wrongly prescribed medications for mental health. In 2023 it's still taboo to talk about mental health in so many religions, families, and workplaces.
    Panic attacks are part of Panic Disorder, which is just as valid as any other medical condition. I hope anyone who suffers from panic attacks and any other mental health disorders reads this and knows that YOU are valid, your mental health is valid, and that no one has the right to just pick and choose which medical conditions you suffer from are valid and not valid.
    I'm sorry to anyone whose mental health has been seen as the lesser of medical conditions.

      @rickyscott9351 so true. Im certain that this jail provides even less care for mentally ill patients than they would even receive outside. They do put SMI patients in a psych unit, where they administer meds, but mostly to keep the inmates more docile. My own experience being incarcerated a few times, this was what i experienced. I just love that the officer shook the hand of the recovering alcoholic (Chris maybe?) that handshake meant the world to him and to me! Just a little gesture like that could really help him to stay sober and know that there is hope. My favorite deputy of all time, is Kaal Somppi! I love that he addresses everyone as sir and ma’am. He listens but he also takes no bull. He is amazing at his job!

    • @ElJefe3126
      @ElJefe3126 Месяц назад

      Often, "I can't breathe" really means, "I'm having difficulty breathing". It's surprising how frightening being forced to breathe through just one layer of cloth can be for someone who's never been in that situation; that's why waterboarding can break a lot of people who don't like to talk (much more severe but very similar for someone who's never had breathing problems). And after George Floyd, no one should ever take a breathing complaint lightly again. Most of the time, just monitoring the person's breathing and reassuring them that although the spit mask is uncomfortable, they are in no immediate danger can help calm them down. Also, acknowledging that you know it's uncomfortable and that you want to get them out of it as soon as you can, and that you'll check on them at regular intervals can help, too. However, for some, it's just a matter of sobering up, and that simply takes time.

If she found a place where she could safely eat, sleep, and detox she would be someone the young girls forced to the street could and would be honest with. And as she told the other girl it is never too late♡♡♡

      @@neversaygoodbye4 I've heard that a few other times from idiots. When I taught middle school, occasionally some parent would accuse a teacher of "just working for the paycheck." Well, who doesn't work for a paycheck? We all put in twice as many hours as we were paid for and spent our own money on kids. With a master's degree I never made as much as my blue-collar cousins who flunked out of high school. Nobody accuses blue collar workers of "working just for the paycheck." I've heard doctors and nurses accused of "working just for the paycheck." They have exhausting jobs often with life-or-death decisions. People in the hardest jobs are supposed to work for free? You never hear that accusation from an accomplished educated person, only from losers. Best wishes.
