In 1968 I started as a trainee programmer at Barclays Bank in London. Looking back I see the bank was quite progressive. Many females in IT including the Head of Programming. In my team we had a blind programmer. In those days it was all punch card input and green line continuous paper output. I can't remember how he wrote his input but the output was Braille on the green line continuous paper. It took 3 or 4 sheets to replicate a normal output sheet and I recall the line printer had to be set at maximum impact strength. Normal output was spooled to tape and then a special program run to convert the tape to Braille output.
The IBM printers in those days were impact printers with a print chain (like a bicycle chain) containing all the letters and digits. It revolved round in a loop like a running track and was hit by hammers from the inside with the chain hitting a wide ink ribbon.Very noisy. For Braille the ribbon was removed and I recall full stops and hyphens were used to make the Braille. Must of been slow as there would be few full stops and hyphens on the chain compared to letters like e and a that were more plentiful.
Good to see Braille output is still available though I guess most blind people use text to speech today. How they use a windowing system or a smart phone I've no idea.

I remember in the late 80's watching a demonstration of the capabilities of the Okidata dot matrix print heads. They printed to sheet aluminum in braille, then dialed down the impact level and printed to multi-layer track forms. The salesman said they found out about the ability to print braille to aluminum from one of their customers who made ID plates for conference rooms.

Is it possible to use an older version of Endevour OS for RPi?

With X86 mini devices now becoming more realistic alternatives to ARM based ones, I'm not surprised that Endeavour and others might consider ditching ARM in favour of the far easier and less stressful X86 platform.
And the wrong pronunciation of pronunciation lol

kind of 10-12 years ago I moved from Ubuntu to Arch - the amount of knowledge I gathered that time! Arch was (is?) conidered to be just after Gentoo from the difficulty point of view. Today I am 100% in Debian - more than 50 now installations I am working with are all Debian. That includes bot x86 and all arms (Raspberry, Orange). Debian is actually ... easy. And working. In Arch you skip few months of updates and almost you cannot upgrade anymore (as it is rolling one). But well configured Arch is so nice! And so light.

Manjaro KDE works fine on my Raspberry pi 4. No issues for many years so far. On Manjaro Downloads page there's no release for Raspberry pi 5 yet.
Oh, and on Raspberry pi 3B it Manjaro minimal install has been working for years (as a simple home NAS) without a single reboot.

The external NVMe set up you got there is a great idea! I got the pimoroni NVMe add on board, it works well but a huge PITA when your drives are in an out more times than a fiddlers elbow. Great video, I always like the Pi News shows.

Pinn and Moode Audio are now available for RPi5 :) Manjaro is nice, but from my point of view it is an OS more intended for beta testers and players on portable consoles who are not afraid of XZ attacks and other stability concerns...

You want "pamac" - the graphical software manager. In Pamac, you can enable flatpacks and the AUR.

Thanks Lee for this information and video…I am still waiting for my Uconsole and just received the Pine Tab2 from Pine64 which is well built for the price.
I hope that Clockwrk hitch makes the Uconsole will make a board for the upcoming Raspberry PI CM5 when every Raspberry Pi releases it.
    Have a great day!

FYI, you do NOT want to use the AUR with Manjaro. Manjaro may be Arch-based, but it is not a great implementation of it. Manjaro falls behind as far as packages and if you try to install things from the AUR you are likely to end up in dependency hell at some point. For instance, some operating system component relies upon a specific version of a library, but that library needs to be updated for the package you are attempting to install. Not going to shed hate on Manjaro, but use it as intended...

Loads of guides and comments suggest AUR. I’m definitely more comfortable with Debian

    • @hiddenlawyer
      @hiddenlawyer 4 месяца назад

@@leepspvideo That's great, but just know Manjaro officially states this on their wiki, "Use the AUR at your own risk!
No support will be provided by the Manjaro team for any issues that may arise relating to software installations from the AUR. When Manjaro is updated, AUR packages might stop working. This is not a Manjaro issue"
