I didn't know that when in USB Boot you had access to the SD Card slot still. That could be handy. Put the fast USB SATA Drive into the USB slot, then use the MicroSD Card slot for archive / long term storage.
KDE has been around for almost 3 decades. I remember having to build the pre-released versions of KDE back in the day. It's great for what it is, but it still needs a lot of improvements. I can imagine we'll eventually see a very nice OS and Desktop GUI done by AI within the next decade.
Is KDE really an "Operating System" as you called it at the starrt? Its my understanding that it is what would be considered a Window Management System or Desktop Environment ;). It sits on top of many different "Operating Systems", like Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, you name it really, KDE ships with most major flavors of Linux. Oh the pedantic nuanced complicated world of Unix like operating systems. I love every minute of it. It just wouldn't be what it is without the inevitability that none of us can possibly speak on the subject for very long without running into many erroneous statements coming out of our mouths on the infinitely complex ecosystem that it is. That's why it's so freaking awesome tho I appreciate that you covered your backup procedures, as that is as important as ever when you are a Linux user. Losing your data to a drive failure doesn't just mean your documents are gone... It means hours, if not days, of tiny tweaks and refinements to how everything works are gone. And hours worth fixing weird bugs and incompatibilities, all gone. All worth it tho. Once you get a Linux environment tuned to your preferences and workflow, you are probably easily 20x more productive than a windows or Mac user. And that's an understatement. Backups are key to keep your investment into making it what you want it to be to keep moving forward with you.

Too many problems. First off the iso had no name. I had to name it. Then, once booted, I tried to change the password (as you should always do) and it wanted more than four characters - shoot, it's three to begin with! Then I wanted to change to English US, USD and month day and it wouldn't do it so I wiped the card with SD Formatter. If you can't do the simplest things it's of no use to me.
The iso issue is to do with macs automatically unzipping downloads. Macs don’t seem to like pisafe created archives. Weird with the password issue its not been mentioned before I usually use passwd in terminal.
I used the image you provided. My first impression is very good. However, when I installed xrdp and remotely connected to pi5, I was surprised to see the lxde desktop. How do I start kde plasma in a remote session?

He made this video to mainly showcase kde but is also talking about how much better the pi 5 is than the pi 4

Yes
I find it a much more useful desktop environment
@zyghom : Pis are a unique use case, so optimized OSs are a legit, and fun, topic.
Hello, I am unable to get any HDMI output on my new raspberry pi 5 8GB RAM. Please help me on this. I just brought it.
Try the socket further away from usb and boot with no storage device just mouse and keyboard try tapping keys or click the mouse
Not sure now it’s on wayland. Vnc should be supported now if you update

Hey, loving it! // There is no reason this (ISO) would not work on Pi4, is there? I tried booting it from a freshly flashed (linux usb-maker) SD card in weekend, but it wouldn`t have booted up. Likely my mistake somewhere along the way, but everything was looking good, so just asking. I recall having some odd issues with Ubuntu server / Mate settings of yore...
It works fine on my Pi 4 although a little slow.
This is better for Pi 4

@@leepspvideo Thanks, will reflash and retry then. Slower is acceptable and understood, I do not have the Pi5 yet ... just recall myself was running from the Pi to the laptop and back with that Ubuntu (server) and was wondering if this is not of similar nature. Thanks again!
Help please. In the video once you select SDDM as your display manager is the next step just to reboot and the KDE comes up? Or is there an additional command to run before you reboot? Thanks.
No you should get the KDE login screen. If you have used a version of Raspberry Pi os without a desktop you won’t get the login screen
Is there any practical reason to be using this KDE 1 version instead of KDE 2 from your latest video from last month? Thanks a lot for sharing~!
No the 2nd one is more up to date and tweaked
Thank you so much, king. I got both for good measure (joined the version graveyard drive). @@leepspvideo
thanks for video. don't you know, pi os itself has a "sdcard back up" program on it. you could have used it instead of "pisafe". maybe this way you can solve ssd proplems.
have you tried to install kde on pi lite os?
4:29 SD Card Copier
Pisafe automates and zips the image which is convenient for me. It’s always worked great on Pi 4. I have installed KDE on Pi lite on the Pi 4 it works great
I really like your videos. thanks again.
installed it on pi5 8gb, the problem it asks for opensuse login: and pasword: with is not kde...
User:kde password:kde unless you tried to change it with raspberry pi imager
You should put your pi 5 in your pi 4 rack
Could you pleas do a build with Plasma Mobile on Raspberry Pi OS thanks!
I don’t see Pi 4 listed
So after imaging, I restart it loads KDE plasma. Changed some settings, reboot. Somehow it's Raspberry PI OS with KDE sprinkled in same desktop image as the pi os I used to image the card. Cannot get it to NOT look like PI OS. Is this normal? Please advise. At first I thought I left the wrong card in. Ubuntu loaded fine
After writing the image (without changing any settings in imager) you just type kde and should be automatically taken to kde Wayland.
@leepspvideo It put me on another mission. Ended getting Retropie to work. Some GameCube games that locked up on the Pi4 played on the 5. It's going to be great when all the emulators catch up. Lakka gave me a tip when it wouldn't run, and it said to try adding os_check=0 to the config to see if it works. It didn't work still. Maybe it'll work for something else?
I've installed kde plasma desktop on my pi 5. When using kde connect I can't use the keyboard on android. Says, "Keyboard input not supported by the paired device." Any advice on this?
I haven’t used it much. Try the KDE forums
I love the look of KDE plasma but when I install it the wallpaper doesn't fit on my 4K monitor even with a 4K wallpaper, I have to increase the scale to 180% to get it to fill the screen, any idea why? the Pi OS is fine
It’s probably a 1080 image, try downloading a 4K wallpaper then right click on the desktop to apply it.

If you don't mind me asking, but what is the USB hub that you are using in this video? The link in the video description is for a 3 port hub which is not the one that you are using. Thanks a million!
Hi Lee, can you confirm that the power button works after making these changes, mine doesn't seem to work
Mine is still working. If it looks like your Pi hasn’t booted try unplugging the hdmi and reinsert it. Occasionally I get this
How do you change the password ? Ta
In terminal type sudo passwd
@@leepspvideo Thank you
lightdm doesn't even work or kde-plasma doesn't work with it.
Why is KDE-Plasma the only one that seems to work successfully? I can't seem to get any of the other ones to work or boot into the new desktop environment. They all just got right to the raspberry pi os desktop even with auto login disabled there's no way to choose the new desktop environment. I don't get it.
Possibly a Wayland issue
