The Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway Cab Ride

- Hello and thank you for taking the time to watch this video.
What you will see here is Tom driving the Bombardier Flexity 2 Light Rail Vehicle along the world famous Blackpool Tramway. Located on the Fylde Coast of the UK the 11 mile stretch of track plays a vital role each year transporting the many thousands of tourists to the resort between Starr Gate and Fleetwood Ferry.
The video features a wealth of information about the Tramway also!
This was Toms full time job for around 7 years and the Cabride was recorded with full approval from Blackpool Transport back in September 2014.

Though I live in the mountain desert now I grew up near the beach in southern California. Your video made me smell the salty beach air, which is something I really miss. Your countryside is so much greener than ours. Thank you for letting me have that feeling again. I would love to ride that tram someday.
The line from Gynn Square down Dickson Road to Blackpool North Station was a continuation of the Blackpool and Fleetwood Tramway, the North Station being its terminus. The line closed in 1963. Before joining of the two separate systems, the Blackpool Corporation trams terminated at Gynn Square.

The Red Bank Road depot, was not demolished to build Sainsbury's. It remained as it was, but converted into a supermarket called Alpic for a few years.. in fact, until 1982.
Thanks for sharing this, as a local it's interesting to see the view from the cab. Hope you get chance to finish your sim version of the route.

went to Fleetwood yesterday and had a fish & chips in the Ferry Cafe
Loved it traveled many times between star gate and fleetwood ferry no hasstle of driving ? just take a good water proof coat and uberella at certain times of the year and enjoy.

I love trams and that guy who tells the stops also I got the tram you filming on the mini version of it.
Interesting video and great commentary. On the maintenance side of things, is there a council team in charge of looking after the assets or is it contracted out? Curious if the ballasted sections are ever maintained by tampers and rails maintained by on track grinders.

Why are the trams so slow. I understand why they are slow on the promenade (people walking about) but surely on the straight sections which are fenced if they can go faster than 50 knob. The max speed of the Flexity trams used is 70kmph. Why is this not used? Do you know? Any answers would be appreciated.

Hey Tom, I have a question. Are you able to volunteer for the heritage trams while working for LRT (Not on the same day obviously) or are LRT drivers "Banned" from being able to volunteer for the heritage trams until they resign from being an LRT Driver
You can volunteer for heritage if you drive LRT. I don't drive the LRT anymore. I do however still drive for the heritage team

I have watched this video before. I am sure it was filmed in better quality, like actual 1080P.
Are the points in road all spring points? Or is there a way of changing?
Mixture of manual operated, electronic operated from in the cab and spring
I can understand very little of what you're saying.
When the tram stops at stations, I hear a little more, but even that is not as always clear, e.g. Fifteen or fifty, just as an example.
If there are any plans for Blackpool Tramway to be on a Train Simulator as I think it would be brilliant I know on UK Train Sim
I have started building it myself but sadly at the moment I've not got the time to continue at present with it
