- During the parliamentary debate on the motion to review the electoral boundary review process, Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh questioned Minister Chan Chun Sing. Pritam cited a 1983 statement by Lee Kuan Yew, noting that electoral boundary committees were to consist solely of civil servants unless a credible opposition existed, and asked if Chan's comments marked a departure from this practice.
Pritam also sought a direct answer from Chan on whether there is gerrymandering in Singapore, referencing the Minister’s earlier comments about the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee taking note of close electoral contests in previous elections.
In response, Chan Chun Sing reiterated his trust in civil servants to handle the electoral boundary process impartially, avoiding political interference. He stated that the process remains unchanged to prevent the kind of political horse-trading seen in other countries. Chan expressed confidence in the civil servants' objectivity and professionalism, emphasizing that they have served Singapore well.
Chan also noted that the future government's approach could differ, depending on its leadership and priorities, but any changes would need to be justified in Parliament. He argued that while past practices inform current processes, they should not constrain the evolution of systems to meet contemporary needs.
Regarding gerrymandering, Chan sidestepped the direct question, reiterating his explanation of its implications in other countries and leaving it to the House and public to interpret his comments on its relevance to Singapore.

I do agreed that the PAP government had served Singaporean well in the past but not anymore with these group of 4G leaders. Desmond Lee says the resale HDB flats are still affordable. PS is not just there to kpkb. He's under pressure to keep searching for issues and topics to review. When he brings up something, he needs to make sure Singaporeans go "oh ya hor" rather than "shut up la, lame". That's not an easy job.
He's not finding trouble, he's most of the time saying "hey guys we should look at this. Is this right?" We have to go through robust scrutiny and reviews to make sure that we stay on top.

I have always believed in fairness and justice. PAP has always been a party that I looked up from LKY's time. I have always voted and praised the PAP as a very reliable and transparent party. When CCS spoke sadly I am now confused whether they are fighting this election fairly?
Perhaps in the past it made sense and for the EBRC and other bodies like the CPIB to be structured as such since after Barisan Sosialis boycotted Parliament after independence the PAP made up 100% of MPs in Parliament. But now with a gradual opening up of the political discourse the landscape will look more like the 1956 in which LKY gave his speech about an All-Party Committee.

2011: Michael Palmer of PAP won it
2013: LLL of WP won it
2015: C.Chong of PAP won it
2020: Punggol East SMC gone, absorbed into SK GRC and the residents there chose the right party to represent them.
