White Farm Equipment Planting Corn for 2022

- The planter is '96 model, and the tractor is a '97, but they are still getting the no-till corn in the ground. The tractor is a 6125, and the powershift transmission, air conditioned cab and air ride seat make the long days of planting go by easier. The Gehl 4625 skid steer makes an appearance to move a freshly fallen tree out of the field. Planting is behind its usual pace here in southern Michigan, but my sandy soils got me out in the field a little quicker than some.

As always, Thanks for watching!
Awesome planting team.
Thanks! They have been teamed up for about 20 years now.
Thanks for the close-up of your monitor mounts
Good looking tractor,low hours too
Thanks!
I like that opening shot. No auto steer there haha
The 6125 is one awesome looking tractor !!! !
I wasn't sold on the look when it first came out, but I like it now. Hard to believe it's a 25 year old tractor now.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris the cab looks to have so much room. Visibility goods to be very good too. Like the power shift and the way you explained how it worked. You have some really nice tractors, enjoy all your videos. If you every decide to have a tractor sale I will be there LOL
The balloon hung around a while. Good video.
Thanks!
Cool ride along on the planter marker!!
Engage steering. You crack me up! Hope you have a great year Chris.
Thanks!
Now, I call this a great visual. Eaglegards...
I really like your planter/tractor planting combination. They seem well-matched. Seems like always when you're out trying to plant, there's a tree down somewhere. You also hit on a pet peeve of mine - those darned balloons. I guess people release them realizing that they go up, but not realizing that they come down, and often in mine and your fields. I consider it pollution, which I always thought was illegal. So I guess if you throw a McDonald's cup out the car/truck window, that's polluting, but releasing a hundred balloons is fine. In my book, neither is fine. Anyway, thanks for the ride along. I'm glad you got your corn done. Hopefully your beans will go well and quickly too.
It grinds my gears to see all the trash. The balloons get worse each year, and the amount of crap thrown out car windows has gotten ridiculous. I'm going to leave it at that, or else I might pop a gasket.
Thanks for watching, Charlie.
Sunday is officially started. It is nice to see the white planter working. Around here, they think you are not farming unless you are pulling a 48-row planter behind a quad track.
Keep up the great videos.
There was one of those around here. He's in big financial trouble now.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris I am laughing that Case IH, a division of New Holland, has a 2-year wait for a new 48-row planter. JD is the same. I remember selling some 12-row wide and 16-row narrow White planters on 40 ft of toolbar supported in the middle by the 3 pt. Hitch. That was when each row had its own electric fan and the tractor PTO drove a heavy-duty alternator. Passenger cars today have alternators that put out more amps.
I remember when the new forward fold Whites were 50-60 grand, for a 12 or 16 row. I recently saw an ad for a 2021 16 row White for $300,000. Crazy.
Thanks Chris for taking us along!
Chris I hope you and your family are safe. We’ve heard about the tornadoes in your state.
Wow, it really got some coverage to show up in Italy. We're all good, the bad weather was about 200 miles north and totally missed us. Thanks for asking.
A buddy of mine who farmed with all Deere just joined the silver club. His 4630 went boom sadly, but he has a very nice 2wd 6144 now. It came from Laker farm equipment in Rushville, IN
Boy that shifts a lot smoother than mine. The 9650 will knock your teeth out! I recalibrated it and it made it slightly better but not much.
It can still have some doozies. I need to figure out what is on my friend's 6145 to give it a constant boost number. That really takes the randomness out of it.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris reverse is equally as bad sometimes. You can’t really inch up on anything.
@@rosstheoliverman how big of a block did you use to calibrate? I've found if it's too big, it has to generate higher pressure to lock in the clutch pack. That makes them want to engage quicker in operation.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris that might have been my problem. I used a railroad tie end. What size did you use?
@@rosstheoliverman book says a 4x4. I tried it with a 4x6 and I noticed the difference that made. Just one wheel, as well. What it is trying to establish is the minimum pressure to lock the clutch pack. If that's artificially high, it makes it jump in harder.
I guess the drag chain caused that to stop turning. Yeah, those pesky balloons has been an issue here too. I have the most rock harvest in the area, 400+ to the acre, well maybe more, ha! Your White 6125 looks like it's doing good, sounds good, just a little power change, when shifting 9 to 10, the planter is doing a good job as well. As you may recall, I have a 1990 American 80 which I like. Well, glad to see you getting the planting done, thanks for sharing have a great Sunday and week ahead.
I found a Mother's day balloon the same day, and saw several others in the hedgerows.
Thanks for the video Chris. I remember planting with a 2 row mounted on a fleetline 88 with narrow front. And a rope to let out or take up the row marker. Those were the days
I was going to plant some corn with my Oliver planter, but then the season started getting late and I didn't feel I had the time to be messing with it. Maybe next year.
Ours 4 row was mounted on Grandad's 1939 "70". Yip Dad used a rope for the markers too.
Thanks for the video Chris & I've got a set of black hawks also great tools👍
We had a 4 row White planter with the skip row attachment for beans. Always thought air pressure was easier to maintain than a vacuum.
When Harry Deckler invented that metering system, he made his prototype using his wife's vacuum cleaner. He found that not only was the vacuum harder to control, the pressure drop caused condensation, making the seeds stick. That's when he decided to go with positive air pressure.
My brother liked he could tell by the cloud of dust if anything came loose.
Your 6125 looks like a great size tractor. Maybe in my future. Great video.
Thanks!
Another great video bro, looks like you have had some wind up your way. Our town missed most of the rough stuff here in NZ although they got a tornado about 3 hours south of here and a lady died when a tree blew over on her the next town over from us. The warm seas are sure causing plenty of land damage all over the planet. Safe travels
It's been breezy here, but the tornadoes were about 200 miles north of us. As a general rule, the Great Lakes help moderate our weather, but the occasional tornado does make it through. Last I heard 1 had died and somewhere around a dozen people injured.
We are lucky here we have ranges the break the weather up, on the other side is the coast and they really get it rough there
I think Blackhawk was a division of Stanley Proto. Snap-on has a hand in the mix somewhere I believe also.
Yes Stanley black and decker owns blackhawk since 1986. They also own Mac tools proto dewalt along with numerous other brands
@@jeramy2398 I said snap-on but your right instead it was Mac Tools.
@@millardhayes1884 Snap-On is the best line in my estimation. However, Harbor freight and their ICON line feel like Snap-On, looks like Snap-On, is warrantied like Snap-On, and my experience is that they are as tough as Snap-On. They have one other great advantage, they are less expensive than Snap-On. My tools were inventoried by my Snap-On tool guy at $100,000 to replace and that was in 97. Snap-On dealer who took over from the previous dealer is not interested in visiting a small guy out in the country. I have some broken sockets and a couple of ratchets that need to be replaced or repaired but I am lucky to see him stopped somewhere. Maybe I need to take my broken tools and leave them with some shop for him to do the warranty.
@@bigun447 you are right. They don't worry about a small guy much and my dad got pretty deguisted with them not replacing or repairing broken tools. But they'll sell you the repair kit.
I'm impressed by you carrying two bags of seed. Is it small seeds?
They were about 45 pound bags, I don't recall the seed count, but I was using the medium seed disk.
We have some of that purple dead nettle as ground cover in our front garden, does a great job of keeping the weeds down.........
The poor man's cover crop.
What white corn planter are you planting with ?
It's a 6000 series, 6606 double frame to be exact.
Thanks for giving us a ride along your planting! I know you aren't real close to Gaylord but did your area receive and storm damage/gully washer?
Fortunately, that totally missed us. Some friends had ate lunch at the Culver's just before the storm went through, but were safe at home when it happened.
@@ThatOliverGuyChris Glad to hear it missed you and your friends are safe. 👍
Hills????????? lol thats not a hill. I just got a white 5100, Hopefully it works as good as yours is. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the ride along Chris. You sure have some really nice equipment! Your 6125 looks like new and sure sounds great! I couldn’t see what brand of corn you plant? My dad was a Dekalb dealer for like 15 years in the 50’s and 60’s we don’t plant corn anymore so kinda lost the brands of corn. Does farmers plant Dekalb anymore?
There's a Dekalb dealer in my area, but it doesn't seem like they get the acres they used to. I'm planting M & W seeds. They're a relatively small Michigan based company, so you won't see them everywhere like Pioneer or Dekalb.
Why the balloon on the marker
I found it in my field and felt the need to celebrate. It's amazing how many I find out there, and I thought I'd try to bring a little attention to the pollution in a fun way.
I am trying to find a plan air because it would be so cool to be planting with a 1755 and a plant air.
Curious Chris what blend do you use for starter. I'm an old fertilizer guy 🤔😉
I run straight MAP, 11-52-0
Thanks that's what I was guessing 😉
I just got the bill for that, slightly over $1,000 a ton. Ouch. I'm only putting on about 50 lbs per acre, but even that adds up fast at that price.
Have to get Millennial farmer's tee.( Make Fertilizer Affordable Again!)😉
@@ThatOliverGuyChris ouch. That is crazy expensive. How much of an increase from last year?
🧙♂️☕♥️😊🙏🇺🇲🚜
