This WAS on my “Bucket List” - the BL (hockeywise) consists of three locations to see a hockey game in person: New York (MSG, 9/11 memorial), Toronto (Hall of Fame), and Chicago - the Anthem experience. Plus all of the teams are Original Six. As scheduling would have it, Chicago would host Colorado on February 22, 2019 - my 50th birthday. Booked the flight, hotel, and game ticket as soon as I could. The weeks before the game, Chicago had a really bad cold snap and it was cold af. Single digits, if not below. There was legit concern that I wouldn’t be able to make the game day flight from Los Angeles to Midway for the game. Plus, had I not canceled 48 hours early, I’d have been locked in to paying for the hotel whether I went or not. Friday morning arrives and the weather seems to be holding. I get to LAX, pass through security, no cancellation. I rebook the same hotel - for $10 cheaper. It was a nice hotel. Took the 4 hour flight and realized the error I’d made - when I saw the NHL schedule, it had said 7:30pm start time, problem was - that was 7:30 EASTERN time, which was 6:30pm Central time. I landed at 3:45, 3:50, had to go to my hotel (past United Center), check in, then come back to UC in rush hour traffic with construction on a Friday, Got to UC around 6:15pm. Cutting it REAL close. Had never been to United Center before, and then realized my ticket was not a “Flash Seat” - it had to be printed. Which cost more time because I had to go to the box office. I got to my SRO section right before the video presentation introducing the Blackhawks - about 2 minutes to spare. So I got to see what I went for, Jim singing...and a pretty competitive game (that the Avs won). It was the third game of the season series and to that point, neither team had won on home ice. After the game, ride share was a...Madhouse...couldn’t secure an Uber or Lyft and a cab wanted $30 to go two miles. So I caught the bus for $2.50, walked 8 blocks and had a nice dinner. Flew home the next day. Dream trip and I want to go back next season and visit Jim’s bar...plus get a better look around the arena.
The University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks were honored to have him sing the national anthem at the debut of our new arena tonight. Amazing hearing him in person.
Just a little story here: My parents divorced when I was 5. I grew up; literally; on the White Sox dugout at the Old Comiskey when I was a kid. I was a Sox fan right out of the box; pardon the pun; and only my Gramps & Aunt were, everyone else were Cubs (suk) fans. The 3 of us would go to every home game during the summer & on weekends since Grandpa had lifetime box tix right behind Our dugout from Bill Vek. During the National Anthem I would stand on top of the dugout and belt it out as loud as I could trying to out do some of the players. Everyone sang; Loud & Proud. It felt good for the soul. Then in h.s. I went with my friend to a Hawks game in 85; I watched them on TV as a kid but no one else in the family liked hockey at all; and was blown away at the crowd. Then one night they brought on Jim to sing. I got tears in my eyes as he sang and the crowd cheered. It reminded me of the feeling I got as that 6 y/o standing on the Sox dugout; actually every time he sings it. Yah, you can watch reruns of Bozo's Circus or have a chili dog at Fenway and think back then; but the visceral response your body gets from thousands of screaming fans and Jim's voice; that is what makes you Feel like that kid all those decades ago. There is No One who even comes close to initiating a response like he does or can get even the meekest of those to hardily join in at the top of their lungs. Long Live Jim, Long Live The Blackhawks and Long Live The USA!
I had to go to this version after seeing the effeminate guy on piano sing the National Anthem before the Lions game Thanksgiving 2020. I had to show my family how it should be performed.
You people need to make up your mind on what you’re offended by, first it’s because they’re not standing with they’re hand over their heart but screaming and clapping and filming with your cell phone is perfectly okay?
Kyle it's the kneeling. We people have Breton combat and seen our brothers bleed and fight for our flag which represents our freedom and those who risked everything so you can scribe your verbal diarrhea 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I get chills listening to this. Frank & Jim are just amazing together. I need to get to Chicago to hear this LIVE one day
Its something you never forget
Very high on my Bucket List
It’s an amazing thing ; I get chills watching it here
Nick Kapa especially come playoff time this is in god damn believeable

Now that is how you do THE anthem !!!!!.
AMEN!
+dbn52 Preach!!!!!
Meanwhile in 2017 most people find this offensive
@@E6ABHnavy even more in 2021 lol
I’ve experienced this in person many times and it gives me chills.
Really wish Frank Pellico would go back to doing this (1:06) during "gave proof" that gives me chills every time.
Best in the biz. I love how he got a cup ring too.
+empire I'll call him 2nd best Wayne Messmer who sang at the old Chicago Stadium was better. I still love Jim's rendition though.
@@IDF1987 Wayne could make the whole stadium to there feet!

+supr3m3panda 2 questions: 1) Anyone get it on video? 2) Did the fans roar?
I was so happy to be at that game! It was worth the money! I can't wait for the season opener on October 7, 2015.
How much were the tickets?
no one does it like jim
i’ll never forget, there was just some special feeling in the atmosphere leading up to and through this game
philly fan and he is by far the goat of anthems. I wish we could borrow him.
Gives me the chills every time
No one does the national anthem better than the Blackhawks.
EDIT: Chicago in general is amazing with the national anthem.
8 years later and I still get chills from this
Better than nba
You are not a true fan unless you cheer during the whole anthem
My grandson loves the part with the flag being "THERE". I ask him, "Bradly, where's the flag?; It's still THERE"
It's a BlackHawks thing. Outsiders don't get it, and we club members don't apologize for it
Didn’t they make this a tradition cause they won the cup the year they started it

Honestly think some Blackhawks fans love Jim Cornelison more than the game
I wish we had Jim Cornelison in Boston!

The hair wip at 1:25
I'll never forget being there to here this in 2015 against the sharks. What an electrifying experience.

Simply incredible!
AND THE ROCKET
On my bucket list...got to get to the United Center to see Jim C. and the Hawks!!!
i used to think it was being disrespectful to scream during the anthem, i now know this city electrifies the damn air with patriotism
Best anthem in the nhl
Still the same raucous crowd noise during the anthem, but I miss that massive Barton pipe organ from the old Chicago Stadium.
