The only down side of Great Zeorymer (aside from the boredom of everything being annihilated by it) are the requirements. Not only do you have to go down specific routes, you can only deploy Zeorymer on a few maps. Alleviated by the fact that it can solo those maps with little issue though.

well going off of the Anime settings, Hakkeshu robot powers were nothing in comparison to Zeorymer. They all got annihilated with a single beam attack or a D. Coupler cannon. So in theory it's not even that much of an upgrade. Even in the game Hakkeshu robot moves aren't even all that great compared to the regular Zeorymer, it's the Retsu Meioh MAP attack that makes it broken as fuck
Getting it locks you out of pretty much every single other unlockable unit. But the fact that it has health regen, energy regen, a damage shield, a dodge and more damage than you could ever need kind of makes up for it.
And out of 8 different kinds of power 7 of them are practically unnecessary coz Heaven is so powerful it can overpower the rest 7 combined. Great Zeorymer is plain overkill. According to the story setting Zeorymer can easily one shot any Hakkeshu without even lifting a finger. Masaki (the hidden personality) "fights" solely because he is a sadistic moron.

In the anime, the explosion that destroyed Hau Dragon's base also destroyed Zeorymer. Against Real Mecha-types, it dominates, but there are dozens of Super Robots who would more than push it's upper limits.

That being said, there is an exception to every rule and not all governments are rational- the Russian invasion of Ukraine being an example. I agree. This guy can easily solo games with little problem, and while normal Zeorymer will suffer from problems when it doesn't have a lot of morale, it still can basically loltank almost everything and regen, then blow shit up with Hades Attack map.
I wonder which one was more OP, Ideon in A3 or GZ in J? I think GZ is slightly better because it was simple to access its OPness, it’s just the amount of effort needed to unlock it. Ideon was easy to obtain, but to activate its full strengths and maintaining is kinda hassle. Iirc it’s ide gauge will drops if its hp was restored....

Ide gauge drops by killing enemies, although you need to be at 60% health to use single target Sword/Gun and 30% to use the MAP versions
