      @@FashionableFather You're a real gentleman! Please could you give me a recommendation for a first single blade razor?
      I'm fortunate where I don't suffer from sensitive skin, though I do get breakouts from time to time. Similarly to you, I can get away with shaving 2/3 times a week, as it's still a little thin in places

      Tim, you are now a badass shaving dude!
      I have always loved your ice cube tip. Where I live the tap is super cold in the winter and I LOVE it for rinsing after a shave. But during the warmer weather months your ice cube tip is the bomb.
      As a younger man I didn’t care for after shave but one day was given a bottle of bay rum. Everyone’s skin is different but I won’t shave without an aftershave now. Here are two inexpensive options I highly recommend.
      I buy quarts of Gabel’s Bay Rum. Simple and not overpowering. As an after shave it feeds essential oils to replenish the skin. Scent fades quickly. I also feel that it acts as an antiseptic after shaving and I don’t have bumps or irritation that I once did. A gallon is like $35 so use it liberally and let soak in for a minute before applying your lotion.
      The other after shave product I recommend is Thayer’s Witch Hazel WITH rose water. Rosewater is a natural anti-inflammatory agent and helps calm your skin when you know you may have pushed it too far. $10-$12 at Walmart.

      Your words of wisdom have always been profoundly appreciated. You know me; I’ve always approached my shave with a less is more mindset. As a matter of fact you’re the one who turned me on to stirling soap yes?
      So you know I’ll be putting an aftershave into my routine! Again your support and wisdom is simply fantastic! Thank YOU!!

      @@joshmiller7777 I really think you should start with Leaf Twig; it’s easy and intuitive. And your can use their blades or double edge blades; ruclips.net/video/Xbj3GQkFm2E/видео.htmlsi=_3ujnralbgJ_Ygym

    Does your hair get clogged on the twig? And how are you dealing with that if so. I just got one and I’m pretty new to all this single edge business. I’ve only shaved with it twice. Also nice vid, taught me a lot

    Great video, Timothy! I've never tried single-edge razors, only the 3-5 blade cartridges (and I'm almost 60!). Which brand of razor and blade would you recommend I start with if I give it a try? And, unless it's a lazy weekend, I do go for a close shave. Thanks again!

    I have that same Parker straight edge. And I love Feather blades too. But I feel that they are TOO AGGRESSIVE in a straight. What blade do you like in that Parker?

    • @FashionableFather
      @FashionableFather  6 месяцев назад +1

      Great minds…I’m just using the parker blades that came with it. Cuts ain’t no joke though, so I can’t even imagine a feather.

      @@FashionableFather Sounds about right. When I tried those feather blades My face looked like I’d been in a slap fight with a wildcat. It wasn’t pretty. I got my Parker while traveling in Spain after having to leave my other DE razor behind (darn TSA). At the same knife shop I picked up some Lord blades that seem to work pretty well. Like Parker blades they are made in India, I think. I later learned that you can travel with a straight razor in your checked luggage or a shavette style razor in a carryon if you remove the blades.

    I looked through your videos, but it wasn't clear if you tried a single edge razor using Feather Artist Club blades. After trying various DE razors, plus GEM SE razors and Schick injector razors I think I prefer single edge razors (namely the RazoRock Hawk V3 open comb) using Feather Professional Super blades, due to the wider and thicker blades. Feather Artist Club blades are ones used by many professional barbers when providing a 'straight razor' shave, since new blades can be used for each customer instead of maintaining a true straight razor. It provides a more comfortable and very, very efficient shave than normal double edge razors (of varying aggressiveness). For closest results I usually end a shave with a very aggressive DE safety razor and Feather Hi-Stainless blades to clear out any persistent stubble. Since the majority of beard growth is already gone, very aggressive razors and blades are 'tamed' making it more comfortable than if using such an aggressive razor for the entire shave.

    What would you recommend between the Henson and Supply?

    Hey man, i love your videos (I've been non stop watching for a day now) and i was wondering whats the price difference mean between double edge razors or single? (Like the difference between a 35 dollar safety razor, a 60 or 70 dollar safety razor, and something 100-120 dollars maybe) If you could like make a video that would be dope, but if you could explain it to me just through words that would be super helpful!

      The reason why I was asking is cause I wanna get started out, and I'm not sure about DE vs SE really, and either way people say the best beginner ones are Henson, Leaf Twig, or Supply SE, and I'm torn between all 3 🤦

    • @FashionableFather
      @FashionableFather  6 месяцев назад +1

      I could literally recommend all three. So I know it sounds crazy but just go with style. Art deco - leaf. Sleek and modern - supply se. Minimal and light weight - Henson.

      It’s hard to say what my favorite is. I love Supply razors, leaf and Henson. I think if you’re just starting I’d do the Supply SE or Leaf Twig.
      Also I will be making a video ranking my razors in near future.
