    If you can find UNRESTRICTED and UNINCORPORATED land…. That’s the ticket. I have the best of both worlds , I’m in a tiny burg between two small cities and have city water and an existing septic tank. Little over an acre on a creek. Airstream hooks into the septic and I have a kitchen bath utility shed on skids. Working on my container cabins to completion. They say we have city sewer coming soon but I’ve been here 8 years and not yet.

      In South Australia there are only two places that are unincorporated both of which are only inhabitable for six months of the year due to high temperatures and are also very remote from basic services. Even in other sparsely populated areas there are huge restrictions, such that I gave up.

    If someone can hassle you about what you do on your own property... you are not far enough away from civilization. There are many parcels in remote rural areas that are hassle free. None of your neighbors will complain... because they are doing the very same thing. AND... the property gets less expensive as you move away from cities and towns.

    Great video, and I agree with “getting along” with people being powerful. I work for a local municipal government and you get more code reports, etc from cranky neighbors than anyone else. Being able to speak with your county and/or city officials without getting heated is also crucial. I go along way to take care of our constituents because I believe in taking care of people and customer service even in government work! I love your well thought out plans and drawings as well.

    I have to believe that county rules come out of nightmarish scenarios that reasonable person could not condone. But one-size-fits-all county rules are unfair punishments to responsible owners, in my opinion.

    Doug and Stacy (Off Grid Living) claim their only Septic System is Buckets and then put Sawdust on top (after doing their "Business") and when the Buckets get Full carry them out to their Composting Bin ?!
    Also Bob Wells (Van Life) is recommending the nomads to now buy cheap Land in order to have an address and a place to go to,
    as it solves a lot of red tape problems with Authorities?!
    Here in Alberta, Canada a group bought some Land and in the Rural area in the Countryside and Built a Bunch of "Tiny Homes",

      I've observed the Doug and Stacy approach first hand, it's a fly infested mess and I'm open to all kinds of alternatives. That's what I find rather irritating with those high revenue channels that promote homesteading hype. Bob Wells on the other hand means well he just doesn't examine all of the details involved in what he promotes. It saddens me when I hear about places like the Canadian group being shut down by the Bylaw Boys. Even tho I became county compliant I feel no need to hassle those who aren't able to be. Many thanks for the great comment.

    Thanks for the specifics in the video... It's true.... many people on YTube don't mention those restrictions for some reason. AFAIK, there are two ways around that... 1) Look up Tiny Home Villages.... There are a couple in the U.S. and one in Canada. 2) A lot of counties would not let you put a tiny home on a piece of property as the primary structure.... Either get someone to make you a very small regular house, or purchase a piece of property with a dilapidated house already on it.

    I'd think the difference would be in a piece of recreational property and a lot in a populated town/city and such, of course if you have a lot in the city camping isn't going to happen, but if you have a recreational property or two or three, I'd think you'd be good to go

    I called the local county inspector's office where I live,and was told that though I have to check for zoning as you said here,that I could camp on property I own IF outside of a HOA. According to her,the HOAs have more restrictions than the county by far,of course. All HOA matters are only enforced in Civil Court here and not by the county. If I decide to have even a temporary power pole,though,then I must have some kind of septic and a potable water system which would have to be a well or a spring. Otherwise,I can live off grid if I choose. She told me that inspectors don't bother ppl here unless called by someone...This place is so overdeveloped,that I am looking for land w my fingers crossed.

    • @wildernesshermit
      @wildernesshermit  6 месяцев назад +1

      Excellent information, thanks. Different areas, different rules. Yes I recently heard some HOA's use the Civil Courts. I did find a neighboring county that allows camping with a county permit and an approved waste water system in place, whatever that is. Best of fortune in your land search.
