Great set, love it! With a bit of luck, i'm gonna get one of these machines in a few days. Wish me luck.. I gotta drive to one of the most corona-infested places on the planet, and feel a bit uneasy. At first i was just nervous, because the current owner is not yet 100% decided whether he's gonna part with the 505. But then i got the news that the hospitals in the general area are on the brink of collapse because of extreme amount of cases of corona infestation, and that made the thing much, much worse. I really have no clue what to do. I'd love to get a hazmat suit with my own oxygen source, wear it, get in the car, switch AC to recirculation, close the doors and windows, get to the place, grab the groovebox through a slightly rolled down window and brick on the gas outta there. I hate these dilemmas. If i won't go, i might miss it. If i'm gonna, there's a slight chance that i'm gonna bring back more than a groovebox.
Safety first. So be careful. MC-505 is a great machine but will request from you lot of patience to manage it well. After all you will be happy with the results but sometimes it's just a long-term journey. I really love this machine but it's quite old and buttons and faders require some warm up until they will work correctly. Additionally it has very very powerful sequencer, 32 bars it's a shock even those days, most of Groveboxes nowadays have 4 bars only, but changing notes in a melody is bit clunky. Nevertheless I love it and I thought already few times to replace it with MC-707 but then I'm listening stuff I made on this machine and simply cannot sell it. It's an old love. This machine was as well for me holly grail since it was released. So always wants to have it. I wish you all best and stay healthy. I believe sooner or later you will get one. I bought mine on eBay. Just i would advise to take one with replaced LCD. The original one had dead pixels issue. Cheers Seb
@@abesvl Thanks, but the trip to the corona land didn't hapen. I was supposed to go get the 505 today, but there was some communications mix-up, and it turns out that the guy does not want to sell after all. I completely misinterpreted his messages. That bummed me out horribly. On the other hand, the trip to that region probably wasn't a good idea in the first place. We would wear respirator AND a mask, only getting out of the car to pick up the unit, then drive right back home in a car full of disinfectants, but still, there were risks. So, right now i'm negotiating a purchase of a different unit. Unfortunately it's from a different country, so a paypal/snail mail type of deal. The price is good and the guy sent me a short video demo, so we'll see how that turns out.
@@abesvl And i'm not worried about the UI/OS menu diving. I'm used to it from various other machines. I used to have mc-303, and i hardly think that 505 with a display could have worse controls. I'm still on the fence, whether to use the 505, or Yamaha QS300 as the "brain" of my dawless setup.

Robert Ordonez Hi. Usually I’m starting with 16 steps pattern, let’s say Bar. After I have something interesting I’m extending patter length depends how many variations during time I want to have so mainly I’m extending to 2, 4 or 8 bars. To do that you need to stop pattern and then being on pattern mode press edit button and then copy. To be honest there is quite tricky wizard because is not so obvious what he is asking for but it’s only a matter of training. Please check whole process in mc505 manual. If you have one please let me know i can send it to you. Cheers aBeS

thanks for the links ill give it a check i sure wish i had a 505 device i believe its rather too late for me to get one unless they reissue them again and be safe
Sam Blackburn this is what every mc fan is wishing now. Roland should show something new from synthesis pretty soon so keep your fingers crossed for new mc909 for example ;)
I really want this machine. I wanted it since year 2000. Never had the opportunity. There's not that many of them in my country. And people who own them rarely ever sell. There's a shitload of REALLY cheap 303s here and the occasional 307, but i don't want 303 again. I had MC303 for a while, and it was a humongous letdown. And for some reason i don't trust 307 that much. I read that 307 is basically a 505 crammed into smaller case, but with more sound banks, but i prefer the 505 for the plethora of control options. 307 seems a bit lacking in that department. :-(
Sorry for late answer. I lost whole user memory (all tracks and patches) because of electric flash carried on my hand :) What i can advice is to regular backup your machine with DUMP Memory function into DAW or any other software supporting Sysex backups.
+Ranch Blonde it depends sometimes I'm based on original patches and modify as long as it sound cool for me. Sometimes when I start making new pattern I'm create new sound from scratch to be original. Cheers
College Web Media Hi it is recorded directly from MC505 main output into mic input of Canon Legria HF200 camcorder. HF200 have pretty nice built in limiter so with a little bit of practice you will not feel any distortion and sound is quite rich. But of course sound is not as pristine as I'm sometimes recording trough NI Audio 4 DJ but still is good enough. Cheers aBeS
i am that I am hi. You can do it by your own. Of course it will never sounds like real 303 but in many cases could be pretty close. To do that use just one oscillator rest should be of. Then from oscillator wave table do not pick nothing with 303 in name just look for different SAW or SQUARE and choose one you like. Then focus on making really short Amp decay and release. Play a lot with Filter envelope and include velocity impact for filter. What out for resonance which sound totally differently than 303. Also keep in mind you are not able to cover full 303 sound spectrum with only one patch. You need to create many different per each case for example if you want really squelchy one you need first pick proper squelchy wave table. If you want distorted one also pick distorted wave table, etc. I hope it will help you a little. Cheers aBeS
+DICA Mikrokosm Hmm I think MC-505 it's very capable machine. 505 is like a good old wine ;) What i always do when i program acid bass sound is using only one oscillator and try to program it to sound as TB-303. Original TB-303 also use one oscillator, you can only choose SAW or SQUARE. Important is to play around Filter Envelope and try what is best for You and for what You want achieve. Then You need keep in mind to don't use resonance to much and when filtering to test how you should play filter with Freq and Reso knob at the same time. MC-505 filter require a lot of practice because it's digital and it's little tricky. Cheers :)
I really love this jam. I have a line on one of these that will set me back about $250. I think I'll go for it (although my ability to create something as cool as this is questionable!)
It's complicated machine in terms of sequencing and patch editing. It is really capable and deep machine but you will need spent a lot with manual. But because of that I love this machine because it's not easy and you're need give heart to her ;)

Pozdro aBeS ;)
Well, yes bit pity, but still there is a lot of options to tailor drums to your taste. I’m actually very impressed how much you can edit in such an old groovebox. My biggest problem is the reverb. Sounds great as an old school reverb but I cannot move it into lush category as far as I want and sounds to hermetic for me but still sounds better than the ones in some recent gear 😂. Cheers and thank you for visiting my channel :)
Ah well that wasn't a great time for cheap reverb. Coming at 128 this one actually sounds ok, especially compared to that on the Korg ES-1. Now that is yikes but I still've managed to find spaces for it. I recently picked up a Biyang "Tri-verb" pedal for $26, stereo in/out, and that thing actually gets pretty lush. Plenty of ground hum, but it hides in the mix pretty well especially with a hi-pass.
@@synthetic_paul Yes, true what you says. I did an experiment routing non drum/bass part trough ext1/2 outs via sound card into pc and sounds amazing via recent reverbs. I did once as well a similar test using 1010Music Bluebox and with cloud algorithm again charming :) But damn mainly I’m too lazy with that and doing this setup over and over is annoying. But still this way sounds great. Cheers :)
stephane cha /motif_r /blackwood hi is not a f...ing gear demo. Those tracks are fully produced by me including sounds and not all of them are 4x4 but probably you didn't survived to te end. And even if they were is mine music and I can make as many 4x4 tracks as I want. If you do not like I'm sorry as always you can skip and search for a gear demo instead of music if this is what you are looking for. Is a free world and everyone can do whatever wants. Cheers aBeS
@@abesvl you are right. Ive lived technoSound... since 91... but as it is a genre that is always changing... no i was more questionning gears and todays beats . Like (even in our beloved Techno) including very modern triplets. They match in. Excuse. No offense. We are part of it we make it.
@@stephanechamotif_rblackwoo4528 No worries, all can have bad day and it is how it is with written comments. Most likely is hard to pass feelings with short words and is a very often a case that we are recognized as bad guys. I already forgot about that ;) BTW to your previous comment, New Tracks have to stand out and should present something unique. Now we can observe huge hype for polyrhythm technique which is cool but shouldn't be a shortcut and is used right now so massive we can say exactly the same - "another producer with poly rhythms". So at the end we have so many people making music that sometimes I'm wondering if making music still have sense but I'm always finishing with idea i can produce for myself ;) I really love to make music, it's help me to create my own world, privates space where I can feel comfortable even when whole world around is crazy. +Strages it's my spelling mistake. This function is called MEGAMIX not master mix :) it allows to change patterns on the fly but not whole patterns but chosen channel/part so it's possible to mix few patterns part by part. Realy great functionality for playing live. Cheers Sebastian
I subscribed... add more! That is bad ass!
College Web Media thanks. After loosing everything because of electric flash I'm working on new material. I have 9 tracks almost ready. Now I'm polishing them and trying to make them work wheel together. But I cannot give you release date especially now I'm spending some time with turntables and vinyls to refresh skills and to remind myself a lot of great track on vinyls which I have. Thanks for comments and I promise that when I will finish romance with vinyls I will pick mc505 back into my shoulders :) Cheers aBeS
I cant wait to hear your vinyl stuff too. Cheers!
College Web Media dj set from vinyls only is on my channel. It's called Late Night... Maybe one day I will have a opportunity to release my own vinyls. I hope I will achieve this target before I die buahahahaha ;)
Set your goal and go for it! I have total faith in ya! JUST DO IT!
College Web Media now I will need to ;)
LOVE the acid sounds you produced in the first track. I have a few questions regarding that man, trying to really figure out how to make similar sounds but can't seem to :(
would it be possible for you to have a chat over email or something?
Adrian Riquelme Thanks. Yes is not so easy especially at the beginning to make sound you desire on this nice machine. So no problem for chat trough email. I will try to help as best as I can :) email me on abesvl@o2.pl cheers Seb/aBeS
Not sure how I can copy let’s say a 4x4 to another measure, or do you have to continually step record them in? Besides playing them in Live?
Robert Ordonez Hi. Usually I’m starting with 16 steps pattern, let’s say Bar. After I have something interesting I’m extending patter length depends how many variations during time I want to have so mainly I’m extending to 2, 4 or 8 bars. To do that you need to stop pattern and then being on pattern mode press edit button and then copy. To be honest there is quite tricky wizard because is not so obvious what he is asking for but it’s only a matter of training. Please check whole process in mc505 manual. If you have one please let me know i can send it to you. Cheers aBeS
wicked do u happen to have a soundcloud by any chance
Sam Blackburn thanks. Yes I have SC but more we our publishing on mixcloud and Bandcamp and youtube of course. Here is a link to SC m.soundcloud.com/abesvl you can also check our website there are links to almost all social media virtuallabel.org Cheers aBeS
thanks for the links ill give it a check i sure wish i had a 505 device i believe its rather too late for me to get one unless they reissue them again and be safe
Sam Blackburn this is what every mc fan is wishing now. Roland should show something new from synthesis pretty soon so keep your fingers crossed for new mc909 for example ;)
cools cools i sure hope its this year they did a Roland TR 8 of the original TR 808
Great tune, thanks for posting. What happened with the memory, anything you can warn us owners about?
Sorry for late answer. I lost whole user memory (all tracks and patches) because of electric flash carried on my hand :)
What i can advice is to regular backup your machine with DUMP Memory function into DAW or any other software supporting Sysex backups.
great job dude, what's the number of the bass's patch do u use at 1:20...1:50... ?
I will let you know when I check. I've just returned from holidays :)
It's my own patch based on Solid Goa Patch. I made a lot of tweaking on envelopes and little on lfo
+zbieracky Did you reprogram your pathces based on the setup original patches of the MC505? thanx
+Ranch Blonde it depends sometimes I'm based on original patches and modify as long as it sound cool for me. Sometimes when I start making new pattern I'm create new sound from scratch to be original. Cheers
What are using to record this? It's sounds fantastic.
Cheers aBeS
sounds awesome! Thank you!
College Web Media Thanks :)

How do I get that 303 sound on my mc-505?
i am that I am hi. Cheers aBeS
Hi, how did you get that so clean acid sound ? :D
But because of that I love this machine because it's not easy and you're need give heart to her ;)
Yeah I missed out on that one, but if I see another I'll go for it. Thanks for the advice!
The couch sessions
scowls Mcjowls indeed, almost perfect except crossed legs 😂 thanks for this funny comment. Damn funny. Currently I have different couch so is not so funny anymore. Cheers aBeS
Sounds amazing! I just got myself that groove-box. Do you have any resources I can learn from? this machine is crazy complicated compering to the esx-1 :)
+afik naim and again - the music is amazing
+afik naim I have manual in english, rest is empiric learning, testing and trying go as deep in settings as this machine can. Cheers
+zbieracky by the time you answered me, my 505 went up in flames as i was trying to fix some the pots. :(
+afik naim :( sad story. Hope You will pickup new one.
+zbieracky i got the mc909 flying over from japan as we speak
Kozak. Mogłem kupić zamiast tr-8 + tb-3... ;/
Pozdro aBeS ;)
Too bad one can't swap out the drums, which are a little harsh. But damn the synths actually sound great, even now.
I did once as well a similar test using 1010Music Bluebox and with cloud algorithm again charming :)
But damn mainly I’m too lazy with that and doing this setup over and over is annoying. But still this way sounds great. Cheers :)
Guys! Can anyone help with sliders on 505 - mine are not working at all ;(
Psychedelic Support what you mean not working at all? Describe symptoms. And which sliders small for enveloped oraz for Channels Volume?
y si el humo esta en foco... escuchen ese tema de Gustavo Cerati
Julio M julius Forlin not sure if I have a good understanding of your comment using Google Translator but thanks ;)
zbieracky very good you performance listen a musician Argentino Gustavo Cerati. 👍👍👍👍
Julio M julius Forlin once again thank you very much. Cheers aBeS
hope you are comfortable in your couch.
Yes i am, cheers ;)
Update: conceded defeat and bought one...
Tina Stormcaller great ;)
I loved dTechno, but why every fuckin gear demo is based on 4/4 ?
stephane cha /motif_r /blackwood hi is not a f...ing gear demo.
Yes my first reply was rude. Forgive.
@@stephanechamotif_rblackwoo4528 No worries, all can have bad day and it is how it is with written comments. Most likely is hard to pass feelings with short words and is a very often a case that we are recognized as bad guys. I already forgot about that ;)
BTW to your previous comment, New Tracks have to stand out and should present something unique. Now we can observe huge hype for polyrhythm technique which is cool but shouldn't be a shortcut and is used right now so massive we can say exactly the same - "another producer with poly rhythms". So at the end we have so many people making music that sometimes I'm wondering if making music still have sense but I'm always finishing with idea i can produce for myself ;)
I really love to make music, it's help me to create my own world, privates space where I can feel comfortable even when whole world around is crazy.
Thanks for your comments for visiting my space and wish you all best, especially lot of health in those hard days. Cheers Seb (aBeS)
