    Hello, I like RUclips videos when they are complete, they help us all learn new things. If your going to do and show a repair, please be complete, tare down and replace not so critical, when you serviced the system you weren't complete, we missed the amount of refrigerant oil required for new compressor replacement, that would helped to know. Thanks

    • @saneauto
      @saneauto  Год назад +3

      Short and incomplete answer is; There is no set amount. Even if you look up the amount that your system requires you still dont know how much the supplier left in the compressor. This subject would take a whole other video to explain.

    Thanks for the insight. Would have been great to learn about the considerations of the electric compressor and how to maintain or refill it.

    • @noobulon4334
      @noobulon4334 Год назад +2

      Other than changing filters ac systems are typically intended to be maintenance free, being a sealed system. You can test refrigerant levels by checking the pressures via manifold gauges connected to the test ports like he shows. Generally there's two failure modes, either low refrigerant because of a leak or a compressor failure, the former can cause the latter if it goes unchecked.

    Hello. Please help me. My car 2010 Prius low pressure hose is broken after car crash. I replaced whole low pressure hose and AC cooler. His car is no Refrigerant? and he need to do full AC charge like this video? And should we use vacuum pump before AC charge? Use R134a? Sorry for many questions. Thank you for your help

    Question my compress seems not kick in when the motors isn't running fully. Meaning if at the stop light as an example it won't run. Any ideas?

    A little back story First off i'm ex mechanic & quit most repairs back in the early 90's I'm 65 now & my old rust bucket finally went to the scrap yard & i had been borrowing a 2007 prius from mother in law who is really to old to be driving She offered hers for $1,000. on payments as that was only way i could afford to buy It has 288k and really great on gas but after she hit curb & blew out front tires the ac quit I thought just needed a charge & put a can on it but its full so i tried the ac clutch relay fuse as had it on hand & it didnt change anything so over the next few days if the weather not to hot i'm going check make sure the clutch is engaging if so then might just buy a used compressor since its only about $90.00 & install it ! While i was searching for them your video popped up in the searches so i figured see how hard job it is & its ok not bad for my health & back trouble's I know nothing about these type cars to start with so i'm learning ahead time I'll get new O-rings & have everything before i start as ill be on the ground no garage to use Will i need to add any oil to the system or just get the r-134 with oil in it as i do got half dozen cans r-134 already from past years topping off our cars & vans ? I subbed & will add the pruis vids to favorites & want to thank you for all the help your doing showing your work ! Oh should i replace the dryer I'm trying just get by with the least amount into it as my disability & SS don't get me but $970. a month to live on in a rented room & dr co-pays !

      I think the hybrids dont use PAG oil. im thinking about replacing my 04 prius compressor too but im no mechanic

    • @saneauto
      @saneauto  8 месяцев назад

      Its difficult to say if or how much oil to add when changing a compressor because some replacement compressors come with a good amount of oil already in the new compressor and some come withy very little. As for the filter dryer. If I was taking an ASE test or teaching a class the answer would be yes always replace the filter/dryer. When Im working on my own car and no danger of ruining someone elses car or parts I will look for metal in the system from the bad compressor. If I find metal I flush all the components and change the filter dryer & the orifice tube/ valve block. If my car and no metal I just put the new compressor on. I hope this helps.

    Prius 2012 V, 147,000 miles. AC sometimes stops working while driving. If I stop the car, turn the engine/computer off, and restart, it works OK, and it works long time. Blows cold air again. Any idea?

  • @susanholiday7347

    You left out when and how you drained the compressor and dropping it out, and putting the new one back in.
    These steps are extremely important. Now I have more questions than at the beginning.

    if i want to replace the compressor do i need all these pressure gauges to check the pressure or can i just replace and then regas with freon in a specialized garage

      Hi Saneauto, I took my daughter Prius to Toyota and had them run their point inspection. In their list of issues, they outlined this error: “ac compressor with recover and recharge inernal malfunction” I’m guess inernal is a typo. My question to you is if I change the compressor, will this fix this issue? Do I need some to recharge with Freon afterwards? Thanks for your videos, they are a lifesaver

      @@saneauto thanks for the quick reply. I accidentally lost oil by opening the pipe held by a 10mm bolt on the top, side of the compressor, it exploded out in a huge stream lasting about 8 seconds. How do I restore pressure to the ac system?
