Great video, Chris. Just a bit of trivia for the chest burster scene. No one in the cast, with the exception of John Hurt, knew what was going to happen. All they knew was a practical effects scene was being filmed. John Hurt didn't know what was going to burst out of his chest. He only knew that it was something coming out of his chest. The rest of the cast just knew the effect was happening to John Hurt with no clue what it was. So the look of shock and horror on Veronica Cartwrights face was a real visceral reaction as were the reactions of the rest of the cast. I agree with another poster. Watch the Aliens Directors Cut. Alien 3 suffered from too much interference, still a good movie, but not nearly as good as what it could have been. Keep up the great work. Much love from Pennsylvania.
I first watched Alien in a theatre in St. Louis - alone - at age 18, and didn't fully realize that I had just seen a masterpiece of space horror that would not be surpassed for decades, if ever. I remember I brought all my friends with me to see it again the next week!
Glad you got to see it, Chris. Classic film! BTW, watch Alien 3 the theatrical cut, IMO it's slightly better than the extended cut. When it comes to Aliens, watch the director's cut. Resurrection gets a bad rap, but it's a ton of fun and has a great cast and good xeno fx.
The directors cut of this movie is the one I watched for the first time the other day actually. Same as Chris, I’ve seen snippets through out my life as I was younger but never fully watched it. I enjoyed it and aliens was an action packed adventure that was just as good as its predecessor with even more likeable characters. I’m also on a binge to watch these! Great video!
I got to see this and Aliens back-to-back in 2017 when the Alamo did a special showing to celebrate Covenant's release. I'd seen the films a lot on home media, but the theatrical experience was something else.
My Mom brought me to the theater in 1979 to view ALIEN............I was 5 years old LOL. This movie has a special place in my heart. Watched it last night to get ready for Romulus. I always Imagined the Derelict crashed thousands if not millions of years ago before the distress signal was identified. An ancient intelligent species either weaponized through DNA manipulation a Xeno or found the Xeno through exploration and tried to harvest as weapon payloads which went south. Favorite sequence when Brett misses Jonesy with the net ....Parker and Ripley are pissed off and asks Brett to find the cat by himself.
Could you ensure you watch the Assembly Cut when watching Alien 3? This version is still flawed, but it's like night and day compared to the theatrical cut.
No spoilers, but I just wish there was a version that was mainly the Assembly Cut, but with the dog instead of the ox. That's all I'll say, but it's the one improvement in the theatrical version, and it's something Fincher was very much behind. But overall, yes, the Assembly Cut is much better. I was so thrilled when they brought in the actors to do ADR for the Blu-ray set, almost 20 years after the film was made. On the DVD set, the Assembly Cut was clearly the superior version, but it didn't yet feel like a finished film.
@@jamesoblivion Your in luck. It's not official but there's a really cool fan edit coming out this year that takes the best bits from both versions of Alien 3, including the Dog being the Alien host. The Legacy Cut. ruclips.net/video/Nj_fQLbsB94/видео.htmlsi=kXZBoUNfnCw_ylT6
This is one of those movies that gets better and better every time I watch it. If only they listened to Ripley! She’s the protocol officer and everyone is like, “yeah, that’s great and all, but we’re gonna do what we want”. I get a big “haunted house in space” feel with this one, too. And Ridley Scott’s world-building here is something else
My good sir whenever you get around to watching Aliens, please watch the extended/directors cut. There are so many more goodies that you will find in there. Keep up the great work mate!!
same as you, Chris, I haven't properly seen any of the Alien films - like most, I know of it. I've only seen the ending of Resurrection I've seen Prometheus, which is probably the worst one to start with I have the Blu ray box set featuring all of them so far there is/was a ride in Disneyworld/Epcot Florida we went on when we were younger, they stopped a part of the ride because it's a xenomorph lunging out the ceiling and they didn't want to scare us, so they delayed that part until we went by
I'm one of those weirdos that has watched all the Alien movies as a kid, always been a huge fan and it's weird to realise that some people haven't still seen them, I forget since to me Alien%Predator is a childhood franchise haha but it's so cool that you watched it and joined us hahahaha
I'm glad you finally watched this masterpiece of a film. As much as I love Alien, I actually like Aliens even more. I am looking forward to your review on that one! :-)
Personally when it comes to Aliens, i`d go with the directors cut, it doesn`t realty add much more to the story but it expands on certain scenes and a bit more background on the colonist.
I’ve also never seen any of the alien movies, so I figured on Wednesday and Thursday, my days off from work, I’d finally watch them. Wednesday I’ll watch the first three, and Thursday I’ll watch Resurrection, Prometheus, and Covenant.
I always remember the cocoon scene where the guy is saying "Kiiiiill meee." I think that scene was deleted, but it was there the first time I saw the film. I guess it must have been on TV.
On the score, Jerry Goldsmith would actually agree with you. His score that he wrote for the film was quite different in many scenes. But the scound ecitors asked him to write different, more ominous cues, plus they later on cut out some of his music used some music in scenes it was not meant to be and additionally even used some music of Goldsmith's score for a different film, "Freud" (1962) to basically create a Frankenstein's monster of a soundtrack. Logically, Goldsmith was not too happy about that and would always insist that his original music would have been better. You can actually watch the film with the entire original score as an isolated soundtrack without dialogue and sound effects on the Blu-ray.
Yeah.. watch the documentary about the making of 'Alien' and you'll hear about how Scott did the chest burst scene by not letting the other actors know what was actually gonna happen...so he could get realistic reactions from them all. Great doc
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I look forward to your thoughts on Aliens and then Aliens Romulus. I watched these movies when I was 12 and they scared the out of me. I cant wait to see Romulus in the Cinema next week. 😁
Make sure when you get to Alien³ to watch the Special Edition. It's much better than the theatrical, and makes it a pretty solid entry. Some people still don't like it, but it's much more Fincher than the original version
In the uk they do re-releases of Alien and Aliens in cinemas every year in april for Alien day (26/4). Try and go to one of those dudes. I know youre in austrailia, but they must do something like that, surley.
The big alien on the derelict was know as the 'Space Jockey', however this was retconned in Prometheus as an Engineer. Which doesn't make sense as the scale is all wrong - the engineer is not as big as the Jockey.
I didn't know there are people who have not seen all the Alien movies, lol. Seeing this in 1979 is among the top movie-going experience of my life.
So jealous. Can’t imagine how mind blowing that was at the time!
Now you are one of us...one of us...one of us
When you watch Aliens, make sure you watch the directors cut 👍🏼
this!
And the directors cut of Alien 3 as that is closer to what it was supposed to have been if the studio hadn't kept screwing around with the production
That Dallas scene in the third act is awesome, wish they didn't cut it
alien and aliens are masterpieces one horror one action
Great video, Chris. Just a bit of trivia for the chest burster scene. No one in the cast, with the exception of John Hurt, knew what was going to happen. Took the words right out of my mouth, you beat me to it lol that is great fun fact trivia.
I first watched Alien in a theatre in St. Louis - alone - at age 18, and didn't fully realize that I had just seen a masterpiece of space horror that would not be surpassed for decades, if ever. I remember I brought all my friends with me to see it again the next week!

The third installation did nothing for me. The first two were good enough!
I got to see this and Aliens back-to-back in 2017 when the Alamo did a special showing to celebrate Covenant's release. I'd seen the films a lot on home media, but the theatrical experience was something else.

I find it so hard to believe you’ve never seen it, wow!
Could you ensure you watch the Assembly Cut when watching Alien 3? This version is still flawed, but it's like night and day compared to the theatrical cut.
Totally agree - vast improvement

My favorite scene is either the discovery of the eggs OR Dallas going into the air duct.

I'm glad you finally watched this masterpiece of a film. As much as I love Alien, I actually like Aliens even more. I am looking forward to your review on that one! :-)
Please make sure you watch the special edition of Aliens. It's significantly better than the theatrical cut and Cameron's preferred version.
Personally when it comes to Aliens, i`d go with the directors cut, it doesn`t realty add much more to the story but it expands on certain scenes and a bit more background on the colonist.
It adds Ripleys daughter which is very important to her character imo
I’ve also never seen any of the alien movies, so I figured on Wednesday and Thursday, my days off from work, I’d finally watch them.
Wednesday I’ll watch the first three, and Thursday I’ll watch Resurrection, Prometheus, and Covenant.

True fact: Ripley was suppose to me played by a male actor. Weaver's audition was so good they changed it.

Chris, I am just happy you finally watched it! Great Movie.
Wow , I am kind of shocked you have not seen it ,well I know you would love it.The first two are amazing and the rest are okay.
Dude im still baffled by the fact you haven't seen These films your in for a treat 😎
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I look forward to your thoughts on Aliens and then Aliens Romulus. I watched these movies when I was 12 and they scared the out of me. I cant wait to see Romulus in the Cinema next week. 😁
😮 I am shocked. It is a classic 👽
When you watch Aliens, watch the directors cut. Theatrical is fantastic but directors cut has more character stuff, especially for Ripley and Newt
When you watch Aliens its important to check out the director's cut
I’m fucking speechless learning you’d never seen alien.. that shit is impossible to comprehend
I'm actually jealous. Wish I could see this one for the first time again
In certain spots, the musical cues are actually taken from previous Goldsmith score work, which may be why it feels a bit out of place at times.
Make sure when you get to Alien³ to watch the Special Edition. It's much better than the theatrical, and makes it a pretty solid entry. Some people still don't like it, but it's much more Fincher than the original version
It is an Engineer. Prometheus is a prequel to Alien.
It's ok, I've never seen the Alien franchise either lol. 😅😅 Although I know stuff by Osmosis.
Hi my friend how was your weekend
Ripley isn't wearing Converse shoes - they're PF Flyers
Wait to a fan of horror and never seen Alien of best horrors ever. Pretty much haunted house in space. Can't believe it
It's ok Chris, I've never seen the Star Wars films.
My favorite part is the chest hugger sense cause I heard that the cast didn’t know what was going on and then screaming is there real reactions
U pretty good reviewer bro
You should watch prometheus and covenant too. I hear they will tie into this new movie.
Here's my people. Saw those both in cinema.. xenomorphing time!!!
It’s ok I’m 45 and haven’t seen it yet lol
In the uk they do re-releases of Alien and Aliens in cinemas every year in april for Alien day (26/4). Try and go to one of those dudes. I know youre in austrailia, but they must do something like that, surley.
Can you believe they never did a Freddy in Space? Like they did wish Jason and Hellraiser and even fuckin leprechaun???
Hell I saw this when i was like 6 Years old. 😅
I don't understand how someone gets in this position and only just seen the films. Baffled.
The big alien on the derelict was know as the 'Space Jockey', however this was retconned in Prometheus as an Engineer. Which doesn't make sense as the scale is all wrong - the engineer is not as big as the Jockey.
Chris you call yourself a geek & never seen Alien or Aliens? Im just kidding
Wait until you go down the rabbit hole about why Lambert isn’t wearing pants when Ripley finds her dead.
Am sooo puzzled someone like you hasnt seen Alien and Aliens the moment they could... bizarre...
