@@SoldierOfFate He's still busted even with -20% ATK because Defense is still more important in AW game thanks to weird ass calculation(I'm looking at you, Grimm and your weak ass unit that couldn't even stay alive for one turn). He STILL IGNORES terrain so he's still not laughable. Meteor Strike even with 4HP nerf is still busted and he could still give Max a run for his money. He was banned in War Room in AW1 for a reason.

beat 3 people in a 1 vs 3 with this trick at a lan party... don't remember where i original viewed this trick but it was unfair to say the least xD
Yeah the mods I've seen buff brutes to be more durable, and then change the Mutator so it creates units that don't grind for more than the infantry used to make them.
I mean... the counter to that is to snipe the Genetic Mutator as soon as it appears. One of them was playing as Korea, last I checked the Black Eagle jets can take out most buildings in one bomb; and the location of Super Weapons is revealed to everyone on the map. The damn thing costs 2500$, not cheap; but if the return investment is infinite cash, it should be a high priority target.
Why didn't anyone snipe it as soon as it came up? It's not like it's not known that Yuri is a major threat in this game if left unchecked.
The fix would be to make it so that you can't order brutes into the grinder. About 2 decades too late for a balance patch now though lol
@@Nuuk_Nuke_Nook I'll be honest. I don't even play Yuri's Revenge online much (though I am actually tempted to get into it, especially if there is more of a scene now in 2020). But I figured that out by just deducing the value logically.
"A lot of CNCNet Players don't really know how to play well." I'm not entirely sure this is the only case. I think it's more, people associate danger, based entirely on their base situations. I see many people freak out or panic over Missile Silos or Weather Control; when anyone who has played for a decent time, knows the Iron Curtain/Chronosphere is far more dangerous due to their advantages, versatility and how much more usable they are.
Sure, a Nuke does a shit ton of damage and can set you back a bit; and that investment of 5000$ seems imposing and makes it a strong target. But for half of that, and a group of Rhinos; your whole base could be gone instead. So, what is the bigger threat?
Yuri:
Has best anti-air in the game, Dreadnought submarines from Radar level, mind control, insta-kill magnetrons when used properly (that also control lock if you automag), best economy with Slave Miner, can alt Slave Miner on warfactories in 1v1's and win the game that way because of heavy armour that early in the game (stops tank production), UFO can shut down entire base, mind control, can't anti-scout a Yuri well as Brute immune to dogs, Genetic Mutator = infinite credits from Vats or slaves, Psychic Dominator has no warning setup for Force Shield, Grinder can be used with Mastermind to guard whole bases (excess units sent to credits), Radar detects attacks + free "spy plane" sight reveal, Initiates in structures insta-kill anything because of a coding error, Yuri Prime can mind control structures and sell, Chaos Drones can fuck up tank rushes and Desos when ctrl-alt 2 into a load of tanks early (they shoot the gas on the move that way), can power entire base from 1 power plant with Bio Reactor, Virus and gats stops infantry spam, can shelter Yuri Clone in Bio Reactors to surprise on attacks, UFO dodges missiles if kept on the move always. If you really feel like trolling you can make Cloning Vat and load up Amphibious Transports with Initiate spam and get like shitloads of infantry assaults and melt structures in like a second. Psychic Dominator also allows you to have units immune to mind control in Yuri vs Yuri battles or to grab huge pileups of tanks that are placed for Iron Curtain or Chrono. Honestly fuck this faction he has everything.
Yuri is the most op thing I've ever seen in any game I've ever played before in my life.
@@noobsatnoon7043 only thing that comes close imho was Necrons in Dawn Of War: Dark Crusade or some MOBA characters but they usually get balanced fast. Plus I heard they fixed Necrons in the last expansion they ever did for that game. Yuri though will always eternally be the most op as fuck broken shit because Westwood kind of just abandoned RA2 after YR
The early C&Cs were made at a time when singleplayer was the norm and multiplayer rare. Yuri made sense when the expansion pack wanted to provide a challenging campaign for those who had beaten the base game campaigns.

@@TheKnightOfSmite Necrons are not the most op faction in DOW1. Necrons can be rushed and killed early. The most op faction in DOW1 is Eldar.

One thing I liked to do when I played (though when I was a kid, I only ever played against the computer): destroy an enemy except for a refinery and harvester, then park a disc above it to keep siphoning money from it. Don't forget to tell it not to attack.

I love RA2 so much. Hope they remaster it one day or make a sequel that is in the same style. I recently downloaded the Mental Omega add on and was disappointed with how fast it was. I'm too old for speedy gameplay, prefer the slower pace of the default speed of RA2 and Yuri!
i think someone at westwood deleted the archived source code when EA was shutting the studio down. they would have to build the game from ground up, which ea wont bother with.

@@xeros4000 I don't think that is true. Otherwise TD and RA1's source code would have been deleted as well. Which was not the case as the TD/RA1 Remaster reused the same code base and we also say the release of TD/RA1's game side code.

When there is a Yuri player on a naval map, everyone else might as well just quit. Boomers are so broken, it's beyond ridiculous. Tier 3 unit available at tier 2. Costs the same as a dreadnought or two submarines, but far superior in every way.

Bryan was never focused in this game, which is a pretty huge mistake when you _know_ there is a Yuri on the map. Every single game I’ve seen where Yuri is allowed to grow and build pretty much unchecked (regardless of the map), it becomes a juggernaut and extremely difficult to kill. I don’t think that’s because Boomers are “broken,” but more because the faction as a whole is the best in the game at snowballing.

Boomers have no real weakness. except mass rocketeers or choppers. But at that stage game is already over. Bryan is the Yuri player. Havent you watched the video?

Everything in yuris faction serves such an advantageous purpose. Idk if the developers intentionally made it to where you can grind your own units and triple your money, but if not it's one hell of a strategic find.

Bryan, what's your opinion on Yuri's Rebalance patch by RaVaGe? I personally tend to recommend enabling the Yuri's Rebalance patch when hosting a game with CNCNET as it makes Yuri more balanced.

@@BryanVahey It nerfs Yuri enough that it makes some obvious strats like mutator+grinder and automags less effective but I think these are good changes as Yuri player actually have to put effort into beating equal skilled Allied/Soviet players.

God, I love Westwood and I love Red Alert 2, but Yuri is so stupidly, ridiculously unbalanced that it's kind of shocking he was implemented in such a way that a 1 v 7 matchup would be viable at all. Not only that, but it came at the cost of the soviet faction's balancing. I feel like they might have done that to make it a more challenging single-player campaign in YR, and then realized too late when it was time to implement skirmish and multiplayer? Regardless I actually kind of think I might prefer vanilla Red Alert 2. It just seems that with two players of equal skill, the Yuri player will always win, and the Soviet player will always lose.
If I had to rebalance, I'd give the cloning vats back to the soviets, and make flying discs, boomer subs, and gatling tanks and cannons cost 200-300 more, nerf boomer sub missiles so they're vastly slower and weaker. To further mitigate the blatant economic advantage, I'd make it so that slave miners have no weapons and are susceptible to terror drones when undeployed, so you're forced to escort them. I'd also make replacing slaves cost 100 credits each, so killing enemy slaves actually has impact.
Boomer needs to be submarine projectiles early with a global upgrade later that makes it fire missiles by battle lab
Magnetron needs piss poor shorter range too easy to exploit, Brute needs to be more resistant to Mirage and Prism tech in exchange, Slave Miner slaves need the slaves at 1 pip of economy harvesting not 3 each (3x5 is 16, regular miner only mines 5 pips). Flying Disc changed so it can't shut down bases but can shut down defenses individually. Cloning Vats go back to Sov. Gattling should be piss poor vs air until it speeds up. Dominator needs a delay of where it's charging like other superweapons. Genetic Mutator needs to make "Hulk Brutes" that are Brutes but recycle for $100. Remove Psychic Radar beacon detection. Remove Psychic Radar reveal special. This means Yuri now has to scout better.
Also: Tesla Trooper and Apocalypse tanks rendered immune to mind control. Patriot missiles changed to fire like Aegis Cruiser but in very small bursts, Aegis missiles are more effective vs UFOs as they go under the UFO not into it from what I remember.

The online setting in game does not work anymore, go to CnC debit a to find a 3rd party multiplayer server.

So, how is he playing RA2 on a modern computer? i've tried it before through the Origin Launcher, and i haven't been able to get it to work (resolution gets messed up, etc)
Look up CnCNet. It's a community-run client that keeps the game alive. Bryan has some videos on his channel that describe how to download and use it.

When it comes to Red Alert 2, I think it's the imbalance that makes the game fun. Sure; some things feel utterly ridiculous; but for every ridiculous tactic, there's another ridiculous tactic right next to it that can do just as much damage. The winner comes down to whoever is most efficient, or intelligent; which in my opinion; makes it pretty amusing to watch.
Several instances in this, my mind was screaming "Use the Dominator on the mass of units, make them your units!" Especially when I saw the large group of Prism Tanks at 18:38. That would've been a juicy Dominator target.

I thought you can shift-click on the build unit icon to add three at a time? And shift-right click cancels then clears the whole build. Maybe I'm thinking of a later C&C?

Any good mod for CNC Generals? I really like that one but it just didnt catch the feel of RA2
