@@BlazingOwnager Eh I'd argue in some ways Razor's Edge has better combat than Bayo 2. It's still NG3 in terms of awful bosses and questionable design but the core combat is arguably the strongest in the trilogy with Razor's Edge having massively overhauled it from 3's sorry state. Bayo 2 on the other hand really dropped the ball hard in terms of the combat from the first. On every other level it puts the first to shame but Umbran Climax and the balance changes around it really hurt the combat. The fact I can't do air combos against all but the most basic enemy types without burning meter is bad enough, but the fact most enemies recieve no hit stun, knockback, stagger or launch effects at all from your attacks outside of Climax is just a horrible decision. Slam an enemy in the face with a triple Wicked Weave and it doesn't even flinch, completely free to attack you through all of your attacks whenever it wants. This feels so sloppy, going directly against the sheer power and impact Weaves were meant to have in the first game. Climax is so powerful that I can't exactly use it to screw around with wacky woohoo air combos, everything dies too fast. DmC got deserved shit for the color coded enemies forcing you to use the right weapon types to even damage them and DE tried to fix this by making them take damage from everything but no launch, stagger, knockback or hit stun from anything except the right weapons. Just like Bayo 2 you can hurt them with anything but they don't react to the damage one bit and have no juggle potential unless you use the right weapon. DmC DE's colored enemies and Bayo 2's combat design in general severely hamper the freedom and fluidity that character action games are all about. A fucking shame in Bayo 2's case as it did away with everything irritating or unfair about the first. It looks and runs so much better than the first, has much better set pieces and level design as well as a ton of work gone into how expressive and nuanced animations are compared to the first. Better control scheme, game feels smoother overall. If Bayo 2 didn't have the baffling decisions around Umbran Climax and played like the first in regards to hit stun and juggling it would be perfection. Well that and the travesty that is Bayo 2's humanoid bosses. All 10 Vergil fights, all 3 Jeanne fights, Balder's fight in 1 were fantastic. In those fights your skill and your style are what matters. Learn the bosses movements, learn to bait, evade and punish and you can pick them apart however you want if you've got the skill. Dodge around Jeanne and chip away at her, bait out her heavy hits to get Witch time, juggle her like a helpless ragdoll, parry every attack she's got. Do it your way. Bayo 2 though, if you aren't in Witch Time you aren't hitting the humanoid bosses. They auto dodge and block everything you throw at them under all circumstances unless you are in Witch Time. This is frustrating enough but Bayo 2 also heavily nerfed WT to balance around UC. Where in the first game perfect parryong or dodging the nastiest attack from a major boss will reward you with a generous WT period. In Bayo 2, you get much less WT in general and unlike the first giving you a longer effect for triggering it on more powerful enemies and attacks, Bayo 2 gives you less time the more powerful the attack that triggered it. At most you are getting 3 seconds per activation, giving you enough time to get in a hit or two before they instantly break out of your combo and become unhittable until you WT again. It's just awful boss design, insanely repetitive for all but the best players who can use consistent Dodge Offset to chain WT activation non stop. Even for those of us that good, it still encourages playing in as cheesey and repetitive a way as possible just to keep the WT activations going. There are a couple cheese strats that can utterly break the normal design of these fights but a design oversight allowing you to ignore the intended mechanics of a fight shouldn't be the only way to get creative and expressive in it. I can consistently beat Vergil in DMC 5 in a single combo despite there being a forced knockback to prevent you from doing exactly that, because I know how to exploit the way his fight is designed but that's far from the only way to go about getting creative against him. In can blitz him in under 20 seconds, beat him without using melee attacks. As Vergil I can rip through DMD Urizen in 24 seconds through a pure onslaught and exploiting a bug in how damage is calculated against him during a specific animation to take half his health in a single hit but but I can also dance and weave around him, drift around endlessly with Judgment Cut cancels, do whatever I want to him of my skill enables it. I'm really hoping Bayo 3's combat design draws a lot more from 1 than 2. I'm far from alone in these criticisms, Bayo 2 definitely a better game for casual players but for character action junkies the combat is a major step back from the first. Bayo 1's combat philosophy, Bayo 2's everything else would make Bayo 3 legendary. Soon we'll see.
