Opening that door and fully stepping into Columbia, greeter by the Comstock statue and the floating islands, is one of the most beautiful moments in all of gaming in my opinion, and this song truly makes that moment.

This music sound so happy and uplifting, but those background off tones make it lowkey unusually horrifying.
Almost like something is not quite as it seems.

Travis Leonard that’s basically Columbia, at first glance it might seem like a utopia but as you go progressing you notice the racism and fink the vox populi etc

Also, it's the bon voyage from the lighthouse to the Jaws violins that permeated underwater Rapture.

Fun fact, this piece was inspired by an old jazz melody called “Cherokee”. As you find out later in the story, Dewitt fought at the battle of wounded knee, and during this battle, it can be inferred by the player that Booker took the lives of many Native Americans. This monumental moment in Dewitt’s life along with several other events of equal magnitude, still plague his thoughts till the present day, leading him to resort to excessive drinking in order to cope with his past decisions. Holding that thought in mind, it’s not a coincidence that Gary Schyman choose that piece as his inspiration for the opening exploration theme of Columbia. It symbolizes Comstock’s nature as ruler of Columbia to exploit the labor of any group or race that he deemed unfit for citizenship in Columbia, whilst egregiously appropriating their cultures creations for the benefit of himself and his own “purified” city in the sky. Later on the player discovers Comstock’s intentions to enact a similar but far more violent process of “purification” to “the sodom below”.

@@totaljanishead Venus has a dense Carbon Dioxide atmosphere, making Oxygen (the air we breathe) or Oxygen-Nitrogen mix a floating gas. Hence no explosive Hydrogen or expensive Helium needed, and the large balloon will be a habitable area instead of going to waste. While the surface is a hot and acidic environment, the altitude where Oxygen floats is Earth-like. Also unlike Mars, Venus has Earth's gravity, meaning no loss of bone strength.
