I'm Doing This Again!

- I've wanted to ride Shipley Glen on a MTB for years but I usually only go there for a trials comp and therefore bring my trials bike with me.
This year there hasn't been a comp held here so Ross, Alex and I decided to head down anyway. We were briefly joined by an old friend Adam Wilson (whose bike eventually gave up and he left before it was unrideable).
I had an absolute blast riding my favourite place in the UK on my favourite bike, there's so many more lines I'd like to do but sadly punting my finger into a rock cut my ride shorter than planned plus the days are getting short now too...I'll definitely have to do this again!
Cheers!

Reminds me of my early days of mountain biking in the mid 80s. Everything you look at becomes a potential challenge or obstacle. Just hanging out with friends riding bikes. Nothing better.
Top stuff! Get those lads out for a street rip too, great riding from all!
Working on it!
Ali boy another belter mate. Need to get ye back up the kilpatrick hill's. Hipe yer wrist is sound after that
Daylight Savings Time is the DEVIL
I rode with Joey Hayes of Observed Trials Magazine which later became 180 Magazine for years and never got even a shot in the mag. Then I finally got the cover and eighteen other shots in it for the Adidas Eyeware road trip issue. The cover was of an X up abubaca on the Portland OR waterfront. My life felt complete. Nobody does X up stalls on bikes. I'll be famous! And wouldn't you know it, there was a full page add of a rider on a Pashley doing an X up drop off a hand rail. Damn you Eddie Tongue. He was one of us early street trials riders. 2003 I think. I also did trials demos at the Telluride World Cup on a Santa Cruz Super 8 DH bike that year because they let me race the amateur downhill but I could only bring one bike on the flight into that crazy airport. And you @11:09 I saw that. Don't rub it in.
Adam's bike sounds exactly like a whining dog sometimes ^_^
That’s Alex and I said exactly the same thing while we were riding 😂
soz 😇@@Ali_Clarkson
Ali out here making fit for purpose trials bikes look completely unnecessary lol
absolutely loved seeing the pashley and the ashton!
Haha as long as it doesn’t get too tech the mtb can do an awful lot here!
Super cool.
Thank you :)
homeboys brakes sound like the saddest goodboy wants treats 4:20
That GHz is beaut 👌🏻
Isn’t it just!
@@Ali_Clarkson rare to see them out in the wild, too!
Never ceases to be astonishing some of the moves you pull Ali
Thank you!
That span over that gap 😬. Cake for you I'm sure, but high consequence!
There was quite a lot of concentration happening 😋
@@Ali_Clarkson I bet!
Alex keeping it retro not just with the GHz, but where has he found that Feebal sticker? 👌
Probably from Ross 😋
Got that badboy at the bike show NEC, 2003 I think 😊
That is the business! Great riding by all. Is it weird that I am starting to recognize locations that you ride when I live on the other side of the planet? Some of your local spots are wicked Sir. Great riding and the bike cave is coming along swimmingly also! Good Stuff Sir.- M
Thanks very much! Maybe one day you’ll see them in person 😊
Ali what do you do to your bikes to make them so quiet? there is no chain slap or brake pad knock , no cable rattle or anything ! It's very impressive
That’s partly due to the bike having a lot of rubber to prevent chain slap but I also shorten the chain as much as possible and keep the hoses neat. The pads did clunk at first but that goes away as the pistons bed into the pad backings
Are you guys ok? Some nasty crashes there
I’ve a sore finger but we’re all good otherwise thanks :)
Chainring producers love this video ;)
Fortunately mine had guards…they definitely got tested 😂
Great riding as usual. How do you change your sag, compression and rebound settings while doing this?
Lots of detail here:
ruclips.net/video/OLPSuHBdqOE/видео.htmlsi=HHV_UuR-ZydVYWLn
But the short answer is I pump the suspension up pretty hard and set the rebound very fast
You need to take a trip out to the north shore.
Bucket list
another great video Ali. It looks like Adams's bike is a Giant Reign?
Thank you and yes it is 👍🏻
@@Ali_Clarkson I had a 2016 model and that makes it even more impressive to me how he can throw that bike around.
Awesome vid question for you tho Ali how did your chainring take all that abuse 😂 I didn’t think it was going to last the vid 😂
Thank you! Good question haha, I do have bash guards on this chainring which held up pretty well, still a little surprised I didn’t bend the whole thing on that failed down gap to front wheel though!
Hey Ali, how do you run your suspension? looks super stiff with a ton of rebound?
Lots of detail here:
ruclips.net/video/OLPSuHBdqOE/видео.htmlsi=HHV_UuR-ZydVYWLn
But the short answer is I pump them up pretty hard and then set the rebound very fast
these rim brakes 😖
No cranks or rocks with harmed in The making of this video 😂😂 Ali as ex goalkeeper I have had my wrist bent back so many times so are you and feel your pain at 9:01 Ross crank flip was just insane But when you are as talented as he is why not show off
The wrist was the initial pain but then my finger took over 😢 still sore nearly a week later
@@Ali_Clarkson ouch when the ball used to bend my wrists back just have to brave the pain and get on with the game
How are you guys in shorts and T shirts in winter...
It was warm in the sun if you were moving about :)
Probably the last time that’ll happen until march 😖
If you don't crack that frame, Pivot will want it back for their breeding program.
Wasn't there idea of collab with Pilgs at one point of time, which never happened?
Kinda, I met him once and he liked the idea but neither of us took it any further, we just live so far away from each other :(
@@Ali_Clarkson I understand. I'd endup in diffrent country if I'd travel that distance in any direction.
I honestly liked the superman bail at 3:00 better than when you managed to clean that section. Looked like it could've really hurt but you got away with it.
If there was ever a candidate for new bike day, its Adam 😂 that poor thing has taken an absolute beating, but his riding is so good 🤌
He’s having a tough time with that bike and no support, I don’t think it helped his mood when he saw how tight and dialed my bike was in comparison
Wild, im inspired to take some more tumbles doing some much less impressive trials on my mountain bike, thanks!
Don’t go crazy haha
@@Ali_Clarkson oh i won't, the self presevation in me is too strong to let me do anything actually rad
what a beautiful landscape to play in!
This is legitimately one of my favorite places in the world
What rear shock pressure do you rub is it higher than the recommended due to trials stuff?
All details are here (because I’ve forgotten off the top of my head)

@@Ali_Clarkson thanks Ali! love watching your trials/jibbing keep it up 👍🏼
Next is some MTB Street trials games of BIKE with Pilgrim
awesome riding lads. Looking forward to the next one.
Fun, good vibes. Love seeing more sessions with these guys.
Us too!
Your style on the shadowcat is just amazing 🎉
Such a fun video to watch, great spot with some great riding
Awesome to see different styles session together And just amazing seeing the Pashley 😍😍
But it also proves it’s not the bike it’s the rider
Thanks! It Rides alright for a heavy lump! 👌
@@tees_trials Brings back good memories seeing old school trials bikes squeaking about
Your style shines on this bike and kind of terrain. We need moarrr!
what's a good day right there -minus the mishaps...
do you guys understand how unreal the things you do appear to ppl who 'just ride' bicycles? :) for outsiders like myself, some moves defy physics...
I do often wonder what your standard MTB rider thinks when they see riding like this
Impressive riding as always!!! 🔥
Thank you 🙌
More epic stuff from Ali Skillson!
Such a great area! Nice lines boys! And isn't it always fun trying to find tools from natural objects to fix stuff
Totally!
A Sam Pilgrimage! Really impressive riding and so many different bikes being ridden so damn well. I'm impressed at the ability to escape when things don't go as planned too. Also a nice reminder that fall and winter are no reason to stop riding.
Thank you :)
I think being able to bail well (most of the time) is a skill you learn just like you do with the moves themselves, I often see newer riders eat crap because they don’t realize a moves going wrong until it’s too late to do anything about it.
Thank you for this nice content!
This video encompasses a group trials ride so well. Just someone hitting some cool line all the time!
This pleases me :)
Wow that’s mad how someone who I’ve followed for a long time comes to somewhere near me
It’s where I grew up :)
Cool video and that location is very rough on your bikes 😅
It sounded rougher than it was 😋
good times !
Awesome stuff Ali
Cheers!
love a lil group sesh
