This is the best comparison i've seen on youtube, especially for me since im looking to buy it mainly for playing guitar. Greaat job Max
To me main difference is the Evo 4 option, saving the settings as presets in the app. So you can reproduce recordings with the same guitar and sounds. Not possible with interfaces with analogue turning pots.
That's good point to know, thanks!
I have the evo as I wanted something light and portable. The two inputs are really useful as my Atomic Amplifire modeler only has audio outputs. Highly recommended.
Evo 4 Works on Windows 11???
how is this card now?
I really appreciate finally someone coming up and making a guitar specific review on audio interfaces, well done! Though i'd like to mention that RTL (round trip latency) is more important while playing guitar with Amp Sims. I believe the values in Standalone Plugins that were shown in this video relate to Output Latency only. So we need to focus on RTL values more and those can be obtained from DAWs or tools such as RTL Utility (which is more reliable). Also maybe it would be worth to mention that both of these models share the same JFet structure in D.I. input which is a big plus for recording guitars to be able to give that warm tube feel.
Thanks. RTL is exactly what was measured in my tests. The same procedure as always - ruclips.net/video/ds6CV13Lh4Q/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/l3wnJGtoG5w/видео.html . The values shown in plugins or DAWs are never correct since the software has no way of knowing what kind of converters the audio interface uses and how fast/slow those are
@@MaxSoloMusic Hello, I wonder something. It seems there is 1 guitar input on the front and 2 combo inputs on the back. Can you connect an electric guitar to the 2 combo inputs too? I mean is it possible to connect 2 electric guitars to this audio interface simultaneously?
@@zaporoshti3392 of course you can, but you're only gonna get the hi-z instrument input on only one of them. that's the point of the separate instrument input, the adapted high impedance preamp - otherwise there would be no need to separate them.
Thank you for all the details you provide in your reviews, yours are by far the best! (minor addition, I particularly love the neckdive tests you did in the Amarok-6 and the Dullahan-AT 24 part 1s, so please keep those up, I think it's one of the most important aspect of an instrument) cheers!
Wait, how has no one in the comments brought up reamping right out of the interface? How is this a thing? Levels, impedance, and all that stuff - I can't find anyone else that has tried this. Also, thank you for the video!
Well done Max, you have done a fantastic job, but still I wonder why not many views on this particular video! I am going to get one ID4
Thanks Bobby. Well, youtube algorithm isn't really into guitars and gear lately
Interesting for bass recording, too!
The only thing that disappoints me about this video and the number of views. 8000? The production value of this video is fantastic. Content and quality are superb and extremely informative. Keep up the fine work my friend!
I wonder why Audient made the decision to go with a DI input impedance of 500k on the ID4 and 1M ohm on th evo? I just purchased a ID4 and can definitely hear a difference in the high end frequencies.
It is probably just a matter of one smd resistor. :D I have no idea what was the idea. Some vintage american tube amps have 500kohm on input which plays well with single coil and 250kohm resistors, but 1Mohm is just a modern standard, unless it's piezo preamp with even 10Mohm. The same way 20ohm output impedance for phones is a design flaw, because it rises thd on 90% headphones on the market.
A difference compared to what?
and therefore in the attack, i have a focusrite clarett 2 pre and it also has a 600K input when swithced to instrument. When I put muy TC Bonafide buffer in front - which has a 1meg input and a 10k output - and switch it to standard line inut instead of instrument the difference is night and day in feel and also sounds better and more open and live when using a guitar plugin
@@AndyVerok are you saying that the line input sounds and feels better than the instrument input!? It makes no sense to me.
@@milankotevski1663 he is buffering his guitar pickup with high impedance preamp which doesn't load the pickup (not altering current induction in the coils because it presents a very big resistance to the circuit = is transparent). Output impedance of such a buffer is much lower, but imo 10kohm output is in my opinion too much for line input which is constructed for 100-600 ohm line level impedance. Input impedance must be minimum 8x bigger than source. Otherwise it will influence the circuit. But the most important is not loading the pickup. In case of guitar pickup it seems that 50x is sometimes not enough because of its passive RLC construction (10kohm coil + 500 kohm input impedance vs 1Meg). Some people change 2 500kohm potentiometers of humbuckers to 1Meg because difference is audible and the pot loads the circuit always even when set to 100%. When we put input impedance of 500kohm we load the pickup three times (500kohm 2 pots + input resulting in more or less 166kohm load). By using 1meg input we get 200kohm load.
I paused before watching. I use an evo4 and have zero complaints.
If I did more recording, I think I'd prefer the id4. At time of purchase, I was looking to save money and I evo4 had good reviews
Thanks !!!
I have Audient Evo 4... I was thinking about UAD .. No need to switch or change
I make the right choice
I record my Bass sometimes ...
I am happy with my Audient Gear!!!
how is this card now?
@@BobbyOrding how is this card now?
@@БигСмоук-с7д I bought one yesterday, it sounds SO much better than 1st gen Scarlett. The DI input's JFET makes all the difference. This card is ACE.
Helloo. Gr8 review. Set my mind to EVO4 but used. My question is can I use it with ASIO as an driver. I see that it can be used through Guitar rig because i probably wont be able to use it with software coming with the code since it is already used.
nice video, salutes to all from México
Great review!
But I want to know which one is best for vocal
The id4 is the better choice if your looking to purchase for primarily vocal recording due to the mic preamp built into the interface. The evo uses software to emulate the audient preamps on the back end. I have an old usb b to a model id4 and the evo 4. i like both of them but there is a slightly more polished sound when recording mic'd sources with the id 4.
In better performance audient. the audient has a dynamic range of 120db, the data is not easily broken by clipping. the audio capture is also more lively
Great video, it was very helpful indeed :)
What is better if you have ground issues? I am currently using a Focusrite Scarlett Solo and a Passive DI to remove ground noise. I am planning to upgrade to either of the two but I am not sure which to get. I mostly play high gain metal stuff
What di u are using? And is ground issue gone?
you won a new subscripto,! amazing video man! now I have a little question, between evo and focusrite scarlett what would you say it's a better deal?
I never tried that Focusrite, so I can't really compare. Heard good things about it. Might be a good option to get both, check them out and keep one while returning the other
Dear Sir,
I have to use a Microphone and a Keyboard (Casio) simultaneouly. Which Audio Interface will be the best for me?
Id4
If theres one thing i learnt from this ivdeo, its that Max has a very passionate hatred towards Apple :)
Well, in that case, glad I read this comment- won't bother watching now. Lack of credibility.
@@auramac are you mentally well yet?
I think people who call MacBooks 'artificially overpriced computers' haven't tried the new apple chips
I notice you played back your recording through your guitar amp via the speaker outputs. Is that correct?
It drives me crazy how low level these Hi-z inputs have to be with passive pickups to keep from clipping. It effects the sound when you cant put the gain over a quarter turn, especially when using heavy distortion. It makes it sound thin. But the line inputs take away the clarity, so you cant win.
The Evo 8 comes with a monitor mix software that can achieve what you are after. They should really provide that with the 4-version as well. The monitor feature together with the double headphone jacks (which also allows two separate monitor mixes) is what made me switch to the 8-version. A little more expensive, alot more flexible.
I am confused as to what he is saying it does or does not have? The id4 has the switch that allows you to turn down the Daw mix and turn up the direct input to monitor yourself in real time. This is a direct monitor switch with just more custom control than other interfaces.
Also one or both inputs can be turned completely off in the audience software.
I can think of one reason to have both you want to have a jam session with a buddy and they have one as well
Hello Max nice video. It is possible to test the new Clarett + pre? it looks like one of the best but don't know how it works on guitars
Great! Thanks Man
hi, id4 can’t do stereo input?
Hi, thanks for the informative video, new subscriber here in Qatar, do you have a video about the interface for recording acoustic guitar and vocals at the same time
Can you share the DI files you recorded for this video?
This video was published 2 years ago. I no longer have any of those project files. Sorry
@@MaxSoloMusic No problem. Thanks for replying! I just wanted to know where the noise floor peaks at to get a sense of the dynamic range. I typically record high gain guitars so I need very high dynamic range. In my Behringer UM2, the noise floor peaks around -68dB and the signal clips at -3dB, giving me a dynamic range of 65dB which is not very good for high gain guitars.
I'm not sure why would would compare these two other than a price comparison. Ok, fair enough. However the iD14 really needs to be included here with its added flexability. One thing we can agree on is Audient has a tremendous selection of quality interfaces for everyone. Both the iD4 and iD14 have a JFET OpAmp for the guitar input. I'm not sure if the Evo line does, but I suspect they do.
TY for the review!
thank u
PRESONUS 24 C VS EVO4 ?
Just wanna know if you the Roland SY-300 can use Software synth with computer
do both have the smart game feature
No. But both can be used in football. iD4 will last longer
Thanx max.
Just mute the mic in the evo app if you don't want to hear it.
great shootout ! New strings used ?
What about using them to mic and record a real amp and cab with?
So, do you find answer to your question?
Hummm… I sense a biased against Mac/Apple products. LOL! NICE VIDEO.
not sure if just me, but the evo 4 does sounds better
Yeah maybe just you.
Artificially over priced computers😂😂😂😂😂 I almost spilled my drinks mentally …
You are right … macs are torturously overpriced
By the way thanx for the great review 🎉❤
Great
Thanks. Max! Maybe you can compare Audient and some kind of Steinberg interfaces, like ur24c/ur44c?)
Those Steinberg interfaces would be interesting to check
Would you mind telling me which is better Id4 the original one ( not mk2) or Evo 4 thanks
Can we just officially start measuring weight in metal zones and tube screamers?
We might 😆
hi ,great video and hope you are having a great time right now, I'm plugging my electric guitar directly into the electric guitar input of the audient id4 mkii interface but even when I crank the gain up to max level it still won't clip and at max gain my guitar signal is around -6db. and if I put the gain level at 12 pm the signal will be at -36 which is really low, I haven't changed my strings for months could the low signal be because of that? I don't know if this is normal or not, would be glad if you could guide me please? thank you so much
Hi Reza. That doesn't sound normal. I usually turn the gain knob on the interface all the way down and that works just fine even with single coils. Some people even complained about clipping when used with hot pickups. If you try it with another guitar and another cable that might help you find the source of the problem
@@MaxSoloMusic hey thanks for taking the time to reply, I've plugged my guitar to an amp and there's no problem and i replaced the cable so the problem is not from cable, I forgot to mention that the situation that i explained is when I turn the monitor mix knob all the way down to input, but when I turn the monitor mix knob to daw It's about -12db or even -6db at 12pm, also my pickups are passive pickups (quantum h)
@@reza_qn nothing wrong with your interface. You need to have the monitor knob turned all the way to the right when playing guitar, just like you described it.
Our calls have been answered by the mighty god himself.
A step further into i.t . l find acoustic guitars becoming more honest and appealling.l am mid fifties so recall thinking synths were not "real" instruments.the further down the technical road we travel the more "honest" an acoustic seems.l try not to be a luddite but it seems that you soon start drowning when you meant to dip your toe in.l love mr eno.but modeling distractions seem to hinder my practice time.love your channel.
😂Artificially overpriced got me laughing. Genius!
LOL, was it about a mac? Long time ago
I laughed out loud when he referred to the '...artificially over-priced computer'...and then refers to an 'artificially over-priced phone' witha connection that fits f*ck all...say it isn't so anyone...
CrapBook Pro 😂😂
CrapBook pro 😂 something tells me this guy doesn't like apple.
Hahah he really hates apple products 😆
No real amp in an electric guitar audio interface comparison?! Strange!
Here's a tip. Don't tell us what to do
Hah, windows laptops are actually more expensive..
Annoying. If you hate Apple so much, go rant on some forums or in some pub, don''t confuse that with an audio interface review.
You'll survive.
Except apple sucks. Go defend them somewhere else if you don't like it.
I think you guys are missing the point of my comment. But I suspect you miss many things.
No, you are just an apple fanboy and are triggered.
@@stillpistNah hardly. If i remember correctly the title of this video is about one thing and the content goes in another direction. That’s what annoyed me. But if you just need someone to hate for some / any reason I guess there’s no point discussing this. Buy a punching bag?

What do you mean? All crapbooks are crapbooks no matter on which year they were made
