Hi and welcome to the Crafty blinders van build channel
remember if you click the bell you with receive a notification every time we uploads a new video
This video is the third part of our suspensions upgrade series, in the first video we removed the existing single leaf springs, in the second video we replace them with a set of Jones twin leaf heavy duty leaf springs in an attempt to improve the handling when cornering and to reduce how much we get blown around on windy days.
In this video we strip out the old standard dampers and the torsion bar and the replacements get delivered
Part 1 strip out existing leaf spring
Part 2 install Jones HD twin leaf springs
Part 3 strip out standard front torsion beam and dampers
Part 4 replace standard front dampers with Bilstein B6 dampers and fit a 5t torsion beam
Part 5 Fit air assist kit to the rear axel

Good job there again Sam 👍 not many people know that tip of cracking the bolt off with hand tools before using the impact gun. How many knuckles did you take the skin off on that job 😂? I wonder how many swear words you've had to edit out doing this suspension job 😂🤣
I'm always knocking bark off my fingers Paul and there have been a few tactful edits I will admit but its all been worth it
Great video Sam - quite a task there, explained really well. Best choice of dampers too!
Glad you enjoyed it
interesting detail and description on re-setting the camber Sam. You know your stuff. Now its our stuff too. Don't be so hard on yourself, these are tight camera angles. Credit to you Sir!!! R&T
Thank you so much for the comment its appreciated
Excellent job i did my wishbones to I heated the the bolts on the top plates on the springs stops them from breaking in wish bones a best to invest in a good impact gun in Brought a makita made life much easier
😁👍
All the front shocks adjustable is it possible to space the front shockers out to raise the front end
Not really as the front spring is located in a sub frame I have seen spacers fitted between the sub frame and chassis
I'm sure this would affect the steering angles though 🤔
I was woundering when that gun was going to get used lol
Hi Sam, could you of kept the original 3.5-t dampers in to save on cash, or is it essential to have 5-t dampers to go with the 5-t leaf spring?
Thanks in advance you've been a great help with everything!
I only changed the dampers to help with handling I suppose you could keep the originals 👍
Como se llama este tipo de suspensión?? Mc pherson con ballestas?? Alguien podría sacarme de la duda, gracias
Great video, helped a lot.
Do you know your weight on your front axle?
I have a ticket from the last weight bridge I'll have a look and get back to you 👍
@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife thanks alot
@@nicobiermann364 i will check today for you when I get home 👍
Hi just found the ticket so currently the van is:
Axle 1 = 1460kg permitted is 1650kg when up plated this will increase to 2100kg
Axel 2 = 2040kg permitted is 2250kg when up plated this will increase to 2700kg
hope this helps
@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife perfect, thank you. Are you still happy with your 5ton front leaf spring or is it to stiff or something? Thinking about getting the 3,88ton or the 5ton.
Is that front leaf spring from a 5t? Is it just a straight swap like for like? Cheers
Hi yes it is I've listed the part number in the videos description if that helps👍
@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife yes, sorry, I watched the whole video and read the comments after I commented and all the information was there. Other than colour though it looks identical, did you notice any difference once installed, did it stiffen up the ride, my van bobbles side to side quite violently on a slow potholed corner. 😂 I really appreciate the effort you put in to these videos, helped me out loads. Thanks
@@aberdeendeltaforce it has stiffened up the front end 👍but overall all the upgrades have transformed the handling
we really suffered when hit by side winds the upgrades have cured that 😁
@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife haha, yes those darn sidewinds are a nightmare, I got a scare doing 70 on the dual carriageway when I was hit by a strong side wind that very nearly pushed me into the middle crash barrier, had to change my underwear 😂 keep the van below 50 now on windy days. Can’t really afford to upgrade at the moment but it’s definitely on the list. Thanks again 👍
@@aberdeendeltaforce 😁👍
Hi Sam where did you get torsion bar from? Is it for a 5t.
I'll try and find the site that I used and get back to with the part number as well
@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife cheers
@@williamroyal5216 Hi Will try this link:
www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/oenumber/a9063211103.html
if that does not work Google A 906 321 11 03 that's the part number pal hope this helps
@@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife thanks Sam 👍
I assume the torsion bar from a 5T sprinter of the same year is identical? Thanks
Hi sam great video yet again, im looking to do this withthe front leaf spring , is it a 5ton bar you fitted as done rear of mine abd os high with double leaf springs , need front up to match.
Yes mate it is the 5 torsion bar
Defo could use some WD40 on your nuts and bolts before attempting
We use plus gas mate it's cracking stuff 👍
