No, he's just watching the clip on RUclips. What makes this scene so worthwhile is the build-up beforehand. You need to watch the whole film and then get to this part for it to have resonance.

True, ask the polish winged hussars who charged the ottomans during the siege of vienna. King Jan Sobieski III led the cavalry charge from the front, and all 18,000 knights including 3000 polish winged hussars gladly and willingly followed him into the fray.

in a cavalry charge your best riders go in front to actually break the pike lines cause even if they fall they know how to stay up and keep fighting... if you send newbs in front they just died there and don't break the defensive line...
Overwatch player wouldn't know about that
and that is how you lose all your experienced soldiers
the correct way is newbs in the middle/front, and veteran units in the flank/rear
war is not fair, no matter how experienced a soldier is, he dies the same to a random arrow, that is why you send the newbs first

They're heavy cavalry, as in armored, which historically was used to break the line. The lighter cavalry followed closely to widen the breach support the heavy cavalry charge further.
Then comes the infantry behind that to further exploit said breach and hold the line.
Why did he even watch it? He does not even look...

@Iron Gamer he's called great for a reason ;) so did gaius julius caesar but but im pretty sure they all choose the best veteran fighters amongst all of the soldiers and lead the army. Atleast thats what i would have done.

@@kevinjongerden4028 caesar chose mercenary German cav for his bodygaurds sadly shafting one of his best legions haha. If only he took them with him when he was killed, he even debated it, but wanted to prove he didn't need bodyguards. Imagine the roman politicians getting sliced up by giant germans.

Their high ranking leader king theoden led the charge for morale because they knew they were most likely all going to die. It’s what makes this scene so powerful.

One strategic failure in this scene was....For one thing the orc army held osgiliath to their rear. They expected warships to patrol the river the their left flanks. Their target was directly in front on them. But the giant elephants were to far away to immediately repel the rohirrim from the right flank. Thats why the rohirrim was effective on their main attack. They were attacking infantry with cavalry. Until the orc cavalry finally crossed the battlefield to engage. This soy guy sees every flaw in the movie but doesn't see the flaws in a military perspective. Shows you how much he knows about warfare.
He's incapable of just sitting back and enjoying a movie.

xQc doesn't understand the context. There was no need to bother with things like detailed organization or officers because it was a suicide charge meant only to take out the siege weapons and those mastodon things I forgot the name of. If I remember correctly, only like seven people survived the charge to retreat into the city. But, they succeeded. That is why the charge is so glorious and important. They died to save their friends. It's sort of a continuation of the repeated Jesus motif of Lord of the Rings primarily shown by sacrificing yourself to save your friends or a greater cause.

1,500 pounds of animal and man charging at 15 miles per hour with sharp, pointy things pointed at you times 1,000. If you're on foot, you're dead.

to answer his questions about officers go in front. yes they would. first of all how would you call anything in battle? not one single one would be able to hear you. When they are in front, their men can follow. An order like theoden did to the one guy " take your men down the left flank" will probably work like they just start the charge, the officer turns left and all his man will follow. Probably the only way to communicate in battle are flags or standards to now where your people are and horns which usually ment stuff like retreat or regroup. And even if they die during the charge and volleys of arrows there is a chain in command.

On the other hand, orcs were not seized there for defending cavalry charge from behind and even if they did it, their level of wepon weren't enuff for defense thousands and thousands of cavalry charge
