The final scene was one of the best film endings I have ever seen. I get goosebumps thinking about it. It may be a spoiler so don't continue reading if you haven't watched the movie but when he held his final mass and turned around asked Jesus how he could be more like him, disappointed with himself, then he spread his arms like Jesus and left the church and that woman comes in and is accepted again. In that moment he was like Jesus. He suffered for the sins of others. He lost this position that meant so much for him and that safed his life in a way, in order to reconcile the village community. In that moment he was like Jesus. I'm crying, I'm not even Christian.
Really good film. It needs more appreciation. I'm a Mexican raised as a Catholic and I'm amazed the Mass protocol is exactly the same as in Poland word by word. One of the best scenes is when he steps in front of the altar for the first time not knowing what to do. He kneels, kisses the Bible lol. Most of the priests down here do that. 84/100
Just finished watching this movie. Wow. This is one hell of a raw, real, hard-hitting film. On the one hand it's intensely Polish, from the main character with his ultra-short hair and piercing blue eyes to the village setting, dominated by a Baroque Catholic church. At one point the film cuts from the young priest, robed in white and tearful as he leads a group of mourners in exorcising their grief, to him dressed in Adidas pants and a black T-shirt, wildly throwing shapes to blaring techno as he drags on a cigarette next to the motorbike he's repairing. Yet the film is also unmistakably universal, hauntingly and beautifully so, touching on multiple themes at tremendous depth - on grief and hatred, on religion in its capacity for both contemptible hypocrisy and genuine redemption, on human nature with its tendency to blame, ostracize and opt for convenience over truth, but also on the power of passion, personality and purpose in the human spirit. There are scenes of poignant grace and brutal violence; the film oscillates between light and dark like thick clouds passing over a bright sun, at times uplifting and funny, downright disturbing at others. It's a work of art that leaves you feeling reflective, even seeing everything around you differently at least for a while... and certainly without any doubt as to why it was nominated for an Oscar.

What is the movie about? Can anyone tell me pls... I like spoilers :)
About fake priest.
Movie shows the true story that really happened in Poland. The young criminal emerges from the youth detention center and is mistakenly taken as a priest. He begins to work as a priest although he has not been ordained a priest. He want to change his life and serve God and other people. He is afraid that people will discover that he is a cheater.
ROPAOFFICIAL Nie dla anime still can’t quite figure out the ending TBH but great film just the same.
@@johnrambo8456 Important story to add, he really is Christian, and he dreams of being a priest, but he cannot because of his criminal record, which is weird according to teaching of Jesus. He posses enough knowledge to lead mass and people are liking him as a priest.
Is this movie religious? I don't want to lose my time with rambling about god and all that stuff
I am also trying to find that answer in this comment box. You watched it?? How is it??
@@cryptopia967 I don't know if you already watched it but in case you haven't:
He's pretending to be a priest so there's a lot of Christian protocol and a couple monologues in a church setting but apart from that it doesn't feel religious, it's more focused on the guy trying to be the best version of himself despite his turbulent past while trying to help other people in the town
Go and watch snake eyes then
@@cryptopia967 Nah, there is as few Christian forced narratives as can be about ex-con dreaming about being a priest (who can't because of criminal record, which is awfully against everything Jesus stand for), then he becomes a "fake" priest seemingly because of infatuation with a woman. As a atheist who was raised Catholic I really really liked this movie, and if you like good cinema you will too. I didn't spoil much, that's first 20-30 mins of a movie.
Garbage. Pure Evil. Sickening.
This movie was a bore lol these comments got me excited to watch it and with the plot i thought id see more "bad boy" illegal activity happening, maybe some action.. but no. its a movie movie, cant understand the comment sections hype .. im gona go watch tribe
Of course. You aren't impressed with a movie unless it has explosions and CGI action every 2 seconds. Pathetic. Grow some taste
@@heisen-bones I can tell your a bore if your going around recommending this snore fest
@@heisen-bones Watch "Starred Up" or "The Tribe" (2014) Excellent movies with no cgi or explosions, just better directors and writers.
@@keyalex9250 thanks for the recommendations but the fact that you expected action and lots of illegal activity from a movie which is about redemption and forgiveness through faith says a lot about your film taste. You may call me boring but that won't change the fact that your film taste is undeveloped
@@heisen-bones @DaredevilZ Interesting how you got redemption and forgiveness out of a 1:53 min trailer, because what i saw was a boy in juvi, a boy impersonating a priest, (which is illegal activity so you know) a man shoving the main character into a wall and the main character head butting a man in the road. But no you right i dont know where i got the notion there'd be "action and illegal activities" must have something to do with my film taste, makes sense.
