- The fourth Bitcoin halving has officially occurred with the mining of block 840,000, slashing miner rewards from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC per block. This landmark event, which happens roughly every four years, is designed to manage Bitcoin's scarcity and regulate its inflationary supply.
Despite short-term price volatility predictions, the crypto community remains optimistic about Bitcoin's long-term potential. Billionaire investor Tim Draper believes the halving could push Bitcoin's price to $250,000 or more, while others point to additional factors like the recent approval of a Bitcoin ETF in Hong Kong.
Major Bitcoin miners have been preparing for the halving, with Marathon Digital acquiring a 200MW mining facility in Texas and Riot Platforms purchasing 66,560 mining rigs in one of the largest hash rate expansions in the firm's history.
The halving mechanism will continue until roughly 2140 when all 21 million Bitcoin are mined. As we move forward from this pivotal event, all eyes are on Bitcoin's price trajectory and the potential impact on the broader crypto market.
