The silver piece looks like it might have been the hanger put inside a button hole to hold the chain of a pocket watch, or a chatalaine. The raised bits near the middle would have been where the chain would be attached. Very nice find.
😂my wife and I were screaming “pliers John!” @ 25:58.
Great video! That few hours of rain must have brought more signals to life!
Spanner! Was what I was saying!
The wilver bar looks like the buttonhole end of a watch chain. Cool find!
Many thanks much appreciated
I could listen to you talk metal detecting all day long. Love your accent. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Many thanks Jean 😊
Hi john glad to have ye back 😀💪🏴🏴🏴
Great to be back!!!
Real world detecting, pleasure to watch,
Many thanks Les. Best wishes from aScotland
John, those may be Hasco crimpers for fastening agricultural ear tags on cattle. Likely made in Kentucky, USA. Cheers from Texas!
Thanks for the info on the Hasco crimpers. We learn new information every day.
@@gregorybarr6112 cheers from Kentucky!
🤞 on 30,000 soon.
I also vote on the little bar as a pocket watch implement. Pocket watch t-bar.
Thanks John, always a great day when we get to watch a new video of yours. Hope it will be fall soon and the fields will be available. Still, you do pretty good with what you have at the moment. 👏
Many thanks Tanja. It’s hard going. I’m doing 10/12 even 15hrs detecting to get a video at the minute, so it’s as hard as it’s been for a long time but I’m sure there plenty more to come yet! Roll on the harvests!!
Blessings and thanks. I always learn something I never knew about history, every time I watch your content. Awesome.
Hi John, maybe that small copper pipe with a hole on each end was part of a wind chime. Great video/s.
Dava
I am enjoying your program immensely! From Paris, Ontario, Canada
Another great video as always John and congratulations on 31.8k as I'm watching this one well done and keep up the hard work mate 👍
Many thanks Smoggy
Silver is the end of an Albert watch chain well done😮
That little bar looks like a waist coat fixing for a chain attached to a pocket watch.
Definitely!
I think it is fair to say that within 2 more videos you will make the 130K subscribers. I love watching, even on a slow detecting day. Thanks, John, for sharing. Cheers from Texas once again.
Much appreciated David. Many thanks and best wishes
Nice hunt I enjoyed the video. 🇺🇸
Much appreciated
A vintage single malt Scotch would make a great Giveaway, even if I had to fly over to drink it! Cheers
Well done John.
I believe the word you were looking for could have been tongues.
You'll hit 30k subscribers pal because of your calm relaxed manner which makes the videos a joy to watch plus of course the content and your knowledge of history.
Well done. 👍
Tongs.
@@jamesaolsen1196 I think most people got that.
Autospell changed tongs to tongues 👅 🤷♂️
Thanks for taking us along on this dig. My husband commented that he’s dug in those potato fields of Perthshire as a child…for potatoes. Lol
Always excited to see a new upload! Time to see what there is to be found in the fields of Perthshire!
My guess of the tiny silver rod that joins the end of the chain of a fob watch. The rod generally fits into a button hole to secure it to a vest etc. But as usual, I'm probably wrong 🥺🤔
Take care mate 😊
Thanks for replying. I am definitely talking rubbish. Again, thanks for all your great content. Be safe out there.
T bar from a albert chain silver nice find top video
Love your videos John, both these and your Historic Tours/Talks, these are my favorite being a detectorist. Not good detecting weather here right now much too hot.....35c.Anyway greetings from Ontario, Canada HH.
Awesome my favorite Scot :) May your finds be many and valuable.
Many thanks David
I love my lead collection. I keep it in a giant fishbowl and they weigh like 80 pounds apiece. Mostly bullets and fired musket balls plus some fishing weights. I did find a colonial era weight similar to what you found recently. Mine had C P on it.
Maybe weigh that lead in and treat yourself this Christmas 🎄
Yahhh kicking off my weekend with my favorite friend🕺🏻🎉 always good to see Gorgeous George rain or shine 😂
Thanks Jennifer…. A worn and pitted gorgeous George but they all count 😆
Always enjoy your videos, no matter what you find, you impart some history along the way!
Thanks for the kind words and best wishes! See you on the next dig!!
Here’s a funny for ya. My dentist gave me a red brush, just like your blue brush….for cleaning my new dentures….lol. Blessings.
Only 200 more subscribers needed till 30k, you will be there soon, big congrats
Another interesting video. Great finds. Thank you.
today my computer says you have 29.8k subscribers , congratulations ,,almost there
Great stuff again John, love it when you try guess the target even if you get it wrong.
Try rubbing your bendy thumb on the side of your nose before rubbing those Georgian coins, the skin oils tend to help. Keep em coming mate.⛏
Much appreciated Phil. See you in the next dig! 👍 👃 and thanks for the tip!
The bar with a hole at each end looks like a retaining bar to hold in disc brakes pads for a disc brakes caliper.
The two holes may be for spring clips to hold the pin in place to stop the pads from falling out.
Just a thought. The recordings are great. Keep going!
it is copper so not one of those, copper is far to soft
good outing, mostly good weather for you, and here in NC, USA I would be thrilled to find George III coins!
I do love finding a wee George III or even and II or I ! It’s a find that begins to feel old!!
A pleasure and fun watch as always !! and cheers for the history lessons also !! Great work !!
Many thanks and glad you enjoyed
Wonderful way to spend the morning watching you on the fields of Perthshire.
Albert chain watch bar should be silver nice fined John
Many thanks Robert. I’m over the moon with that
Always great to see you John, another day, another brilliant History Lesson. I hope, by now, you'll have gained the 30k in subs and every one of those Subs will enjoy watching and listening to you. Keep up the fantastic work. Much love to you, the Mrs and the gorgeous Jura! 😘 Chez in Lliria Valencia Spain 😘
Rain or shine I love watching and listening to you. Keep looking for more Gold coins and those rare artifacts. I never miss your latest video. Watching from Ontario Canada. Thx Laura
It's like the whole Bank of England is in them Perthshire fields. 😂
Er, the bank of Scotland, surely!
@@milorudge5110 Also England, France etc 🙃😉😊
@@milorudge5110 Them Scots have theirs properly stored. 😜
Love your videos and especially the history! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for braving the elements to bring your videos to your fans. 🥰💕❤️👍👍
Lovely little button.
That will be some field once the spuds are harvested.deep plough on spud fields so should bring some good stuff up.all the best john 👍
The copper pipe whit the two holes is that not a roman holder fore toiletpaper John ?? 😂
Joke 🤣greatz from Holland.
All the best and to the next time. Take care.👍
Turning lead into gold was the alchemists dream. Dream on John.😂
The silver bar seems like the retaining bar for a pocket watch chain. Now back to our regularly scheduled detectorist...
That little silver thing looks to me like it might be plated, and if I'm not mistaken the first three letters spell out "oak". No clue what it is, though, they wouldn't normally bother writing anything on it if it wasn't meant to be seen, but it looks like it goes inside something. So it has me baffled...:) good video!
A great video John. It’s a shame the weather was getting the better of you but I’m sure you are due a really good find on that field soon especially now you’re in the dip. Ironic you found potato head in that field lol. Can’t wait till your next video. Thanks once again for sharing your treasure hunt with us 🤗👍
Much appreciated and thanks for watching
I am pretty sure that no one would bother to mark a piece like that unless ir was a precious metal....It must be silver. See you Detectival
Silver T-bar for an Albert chain👍
Hurrah! Thanks Donna. Much appreciated
Hey, John! So glad you had some rain! We are still watching for it here in Central Texas. Love watching your vids!😊👋🏼
Nice finds as usual. Thanks for sharing this addictive hobby!!!
I'm sure we were all shouting 'PLIERS!' haha - some great finds as always John. The 'silver' item looks like it says OAK or something on the left. Does it unscrew? It's very similar to little containers that held lead for mechanical pencils. I have one I was gifted as a child (it was old before I had it so no idea on date), not the same shape as yours but there are similar on google - or if its hollow maybe its part of the actual pencil? Just a guess! Anyway have a great Sunday and week ahead.
Good one John, always fun to watch
Such a cute little button.❤
Many thanks, very dainty isn’t it
Mixed bag of finds there John, something us detectorists are used to quite often. Always good to get a George III, I did have a George II the last time I was out in the field, never get bored with digging them. Enjoyed bud and all the best. HH.
Yay, another great video on this cold wintery day here...🥰
Great video as ever. Did you find out exactly what the little silver bar was? Hope you dried out ok and the weather today is even worse so don’t expect you to do any more digs any time soon! Congrats on almost 30k subscribers though and we’ll deserved - onwards to 31k! 🤞
29.7k as I write this.
AMAZING year and VERY well deserved!
Congratulations and thank you for another fun/educational video!
I look so forward to your videos love them I hope you find a hoard of all Gold!
Another great video John! I love to see what the fields give up even when it's junk. I have just started metal detecting myself so I always pick up good tips from your videos! Keep it up! 😊
Hey! Another female here thinking about buying a detector! Been reading / watching stuff for ages. When u get permission from farm owners etc, what do u usually negotiate with them if you find old coins? Not classed as treasure (300 yrs old) but still old. What's the deal then? I'm Scotland also! Any help u can give is appreciated!
@@vivica11111 I am really new to it so not found anything yet. I'm still getting used to the sounds and settings on my detector.
I have spoken to a few other detectorists and as far as i know i believe it has to be a number of coins from the same date in order to be classed as a hoard or treasure?? I believe that is right. If anyone wants to correct me or add to that i am sure they will
@@Leanne-juk05 yeah I think it's 3 coins if I can remember correctly what I've read lol. Your detector is the one I was looking at buying. Might take the plunge lol
@@vivica11111 go for it!
Good to see you out John! Glad you finally got some much needed rain. The rod with the holes…reminds me of a cart pin, off the tongue? Just a thought.
The bar with a hole on each end reminds me of a cotter pin
Thanks Molly! That makes sense
🎉 great video as always!
Always fun to learn about the history, keep it up.
Pliers I think. 😊 Thanks for the fun of watching you.
Awesome finds! Congrats to 30,000 subs Mate!
Well done John!!! How do you like that big coil on the Deus ll? I have the 9” and 11” been thinking about getting the large one. Anyway pliers is the word you’re looking for and 1776 is when us Massachusetts farmers started shooting 😁 ( 1775 actually, but who’s counting) 1776 is when we declared independence. Cheers!!!!!!
The “silver” thing appears to be something mechanical. Maybe a tractor oil pump push rod. Maybe a pneumatic or hydraulic piston/valve?
Many thanks for the comment much appreciated
great john
Hi Alan. Hope you enjoy
@@thescottishdetectorist i always do john you never disapoint great stuff
you have found crimping pliers for ear tags I believe
Some interesting finds! I think the copper thing looks like a handle off something and the silver thing looks like the bit off a fob watch chain which goes through a waistcoat buttonhole? Was it pliers you were trying to think of?
Its amazing how naming the most obvious target, can cause the brain to stall, It usually pops into my head as soon as i stop filming, or later when im reviewing the film! I blame the accidental touch of my bare noggin on electric fences, Two knockouts and one sat me on my backside, obviously my memory circuits have been fried, thats my excuse anyway! The small bar definitely looks like silver to me! Cheers Mate!
Yeah looks like it's from a watch fob !
Thanks Adrian.
Glad to be back settle Down near fire in cold weather in the outskirts of Perth……..WA
My Great Uncle was killed on the Somme
Many thanks and sorry for that loss. A terrible war, well they all are. But those tactics just massively inflated the numbers
Good job
I think that the copper tube with a hole at each end is a handle for a kite. The strings go through the holes.
I think the tongs as folk have been calling them are for putting cattle tags in there ears
If uou can get them open you might see where the tag would sit before fitting the tag to the ear
I have definitely seen that silver object before but for the life of me ,I can't think where perhaps part of a pocket watch chain and that is used for tamping down tobacco inside a pipe ???
The holes are for the R clips, maybe for machinery? PLIERS!!!!!!! 🎉
Pliers!!! 🙄 got there in the end 😂 thanks
That little bar looks like the “T” piece from an Albert chain ?
Hi John,
Why do you avoid using water on the cupro nickel coins. It sounded like you said it would fall apart?
We use it in marine applications such as plumbing, pipes, heat exchangers etc. particularly because of it's resistance to corrosion.
That wasn't one of your better days, however it isn't every day that you can find a silver horde as you did a couple of weeks ago. Being in the field is better than nothing, and you did find a couple of nice coins!
Interesting bit of silver, looks very specific part of something 🤔 .. I think looks like 9ct at the beginning of the left side imprint .... would it be worth doing some kind of micro clean, to get the ingrained bits of dirt out ot the stamped bits try get more detail. It really reminds me of something 🧐 don't know what so not much help !
The bar of a pocketwatch chain ?
Good shout, I think that’s exactly what it is!!
hi John could the bar be a off a watch chain, it looks like one I found with the chain.
Thanks Richard. Sounds like it is! Great find and thanks for commenting
ohhh in lightbox I see the tiny gear edges on the silver thingy the second find! Does it ssy Corliss? Engine spool gear?
👍
John, will you be attending that TDS rally at the Scottish Borders on the 1st and 2nd of Sept? Would you comment on that event?
Good evening. I won’t be at that rally I don’t think, I think I’m working and I’m going to Detectival on the 9th and 10th so it clashes I’m
afraid. I don’t know anything about it but I know Toddy has been detecting all around Scotland for years and does lots of weekend and day digs and the feedback seems to be very good with some great finds reported in the past
The. Pin with the hole … if it is double struck and it certainly appears so could the hole have been drilled in it to invalidate it? Anyway, you should get that straightaway to a museum. It could be very valuable.
Hi , a query, what sort of head phones you got ? Wireless?, can or have you done a section on your tools , what they are and how they work, many hanks Jane
Thanks
26:43 pliers 😂
That’s the word 🙄 honestly, sometimes my brain just fails me 😆
That river looks like the end of a watch chain that sits behind the buttonhole maybe ?
Many thanks Much appreciated
would love to get one or two of George the third but not many in Florida...
Should be a good few Spanish there,no?
@andreworr4307 yes we find Spanish along the beaches occasionally
I wonder if that small bar might be part of the hinge of a silver cigarette case? The lengthwise grooves look decorative to match the case, perhaps. It looks familiar somehow…as does the rod with holes. Not sure why they would make a lock pin out of copper but I’m almost sure I’ve seen one in my grandfather’s shed. Intriguing as always! Cheers Col
Many thanks Colin. I appreciate your feedback
That silver thingy - toggle to chain or shaft to machine? idk It cant be a duble ended key … idk curious!
Pliers 😆. Too job son
Aye John we all have spells where its hard going. Tonight i got a tiny button with loop bent but intact, just like yours lol. Thats was all for ages, just junk, i was knackered then heading back i found a 1681 Charles 2nd irish farthing and a shoe buckle last 2 holes to save the day 😂
What filming set up do you use?
