Bellingham is better than Foden and Palmer, BUT Foden and Palmer are better than Bellingham at the CAM role. Bellingham is a natural 8, and pretty much played as an 8 all game. The biggest issue England had was no threat coming from the Left side because Foden played centrally most of the time and Tripps is uncomfortable on the left. England need a left winger that can keep the width, and keep Foden or Palmer and Jude running the attack through the middle.

American opinion here but also still an England fan: Tough to judge much on one game. Bellingham is good enough to single handedly win games though. Also I would disagree on the D in general, they didn’t look bad but certainly didn’t look good either. And if we really think that performance in the back gets it done against attacking lineups like France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Belgium, etc I’m afraid for another quarterfinal exit unfortunately. All said, 3pts in the group is 3pts in the group, you get one more W and it’s onto the knockouts, and the real fun lol

Palmer possesses quality and an aura around him, which I don´t see with Foden. So for the moment, the one I would drop is Foden. What about you? Would you make any changes? if so which ones? Or are you happy with the current line-up?

Issue i saw was TAA kept pushing up to get into his best position but Kane doesn’t have the pace to make runs anymore so he had 0 crosses. Bc he was higher up foden had to come back into build up and he’s no longer in his best position. He kept making the same runs in the box that Kane did. Rice had to cover way too much ground bc TAA wasn’t there so defensively we were open. Stones doesn’t look fit

@@MagicBound22 Foden is incredible. And in a world with no Jude, he'd be our number 10. But he simply just doesn't have that beast mode that Jude has. Jude is comfortable with the prospect of carrying any team he plays in. He embraces that responsibility and thrives from it. Foden for club, as amazing as he is, isn't the most important player on the park. I'm guessing in the changing room before a game, everyone is huddled around Phil while he delivers a crazy inspiring team talk. He just wants to get on the pitch and run riot. He's the best in the world at "playing footy" if that makes sense. I genuinely love Foden, but maybe he's just a year or two shy of finding and cementing his place on the park. They're all still kids remember.. Foden may not smash it this comp, but for sure he's gonna be around and crazy important for years to come

@@John-ro3sh Bro, It's not that Foden isn't brilliant, but you comment nailed it. Jude, despite his age, is comfortable playing big man footy. Not just playing it, owning it. Foden can't own a park when KDB, Rodrigo, Silva on the same park. In footballing terms, Foden doesn't have much of an ego. He just loves playing. Jude's ego is perfect for a top pro baller. He knows himself so well. Were as Foden, in my opinion, hasn't quite settled yet.

We started off great, then as the game progressed went into protect the lead mode, second half I honestly thought we were going to let them score, we just looked disjointed and desperate at times. Conor did great. I feel Palmer ( not because he’s Chelsea) would open the channels for Kane and he needs to be used going forward but I bet Southgate won’t see it that way. The performance did not give me any positive vibes at all, we will get torn to pieces when we get to play the quality teams on this showing.

That formation can't be played against Germany or Spain because Palmer will become the weakness as defensively he is not good.
I would prefer the formation without natural striker but the 2 pacey winger inverted into striker when attacking and back to winger when defending while Palmer need to always remember getting back to own half. Congested players in the midfield and top opposition will have no other option than instructing their fullback and one of their centerback making the run forward and it bring the chances for Gordon and Saka to readying for pacey run of counter-attack.
Imagine congested 6 players in midfield area or 5 in midfield and 5 at the back. But again we need Palmer, Gordon, and Saka to be 100% level of fitness.

I have no doubts how England should play. Given Southgate’s 4231: Bellingham further back, next to Rice, with license to good forward as he deems fit. Foden in the 10, saka on the right and palmer or Gordon on the left. Get Shaw in at left back as soon as possible.

    • @ronnyron4681

If you watch the game, Bellingham didn't look like fit enough to run up and down the pitch for full 90 cos he seems like losing too much energy covering Madrid all this season and it takes the toll that he losing the energy for England. In 2nd half he was completely out of breath as i saw how he take his breathing it is just unusual to his normal breathing in Madrid at the early part of the season.
It should better If madrid didn't go through to the Champions league finalm

I am getting a bit tired of the Saka disrespect. As a player he did everything right. I heard everyone say it was a deflected cross and gave him no credit. Everyone should go back and look at the play. When Saka started the run, Jude ran with him. Jude put his hand in the air to Saka, who looked up to see Jude and made the cross, while the whole time looking at him. That is what he does and has been doing for years. The other narrative that has been going round and it was mentioned here was the one about Trent passing the ball to Walker to put him on goal. False. Trent passed it to Saka, who passed to Walker and put him on goal. Saka at one point passed it to Foden and made the run towards goal and Foden passed it behind him. He was ineffective in the 2nd half because that was how Gareth wanted the team to play, and that went for everyone. The team is too disjointed for Palmer, Foden and Bellingham to be in the team at the same time, as all three play the same way. Bellingham is not going to pass the ball back to Foden. At one point you had Foden, Bellingham, Saka, Trent and Walker on the right side of the pitch. Why, because Trippier was not worth covering as he passed the ball back every time he got it. Palmer is a great player, but he cannot play on the right. If he does eventually he will drift to the middle, where Foden and Bellingham roam. It is the same reason Foden can't play on the left or right. They are players similar to Bellingham that has been given the freedom to roam and create in their teams. Bowen is the only alternative to Saka as both are good defensively. Eze is similar to Foden, but can play better on the left, but will eventually drift into the middle. A problem for the manager as he has all these players that like to drift into the middle. I have heard nothing about the traffic jam the players created at certain points in the game. There was one time England had six player in the back covered by 3 of the opposition. The quick fix for England is Gordon on the left, Saka on the right. This would causes the opposition to respect both sides of the pitch, which did not happen. Start Palmer over Foden as I think he has more ability on the right side which allow Jude to drift up the left side. Kane need to be subbed early if not involved enough. Finally, teams that decide to single man mark Saka, get toasted. Name a player other than Saka that requires the respect of at least 2-3 defenders to keep him quiet. Stop the hate.

I lumped on France to win the euros after the 60th minute. Literally have no right being the outright favs for the tournament.
What I will say though is I think whoever plays on the left is going to struggle receiving balls from a left back who isn’t left footed. Palmer will do a better job of holding the ball up and bringing others into play.
