I love how this is his actual death scene. It's not just a bit, where he's back the next episode - he canonically dies here and they have a funeral and everything. Possibly the greatest killing off of a character on television

They had to write off the character because the actor wanted to do other projects, this was a brilliant way to do it.
Kudos to Chris Morris for coming back for just 1 scene in the second series. Almost as badass as Charles Dance returning to GoT to play a corpse for 1 episode.

I like how Chris Morris and whoever else probably spent hours agonising over the funniest way to jump out of a window. They found it.
I think they naturally knew exactly the funniest way to do it the instant they thought up the idea.

There was a real life situation like this in a maraschino cherry factory. There was a suspicion of drug growing there and when the investigators confronted the boss, he excused himself to the bathroom and then promptly shot himself.

He truly is the greatest man ever. He sacrificed himself to save his firm and the lives and jobs of everyone hired in the firm.
But not the pension fund.

This will always be my favourite scene from the IT Crowd; never saw it coming. The first time I saw this scene I thought he was just going to walk up to the window and gaze out across London whilst pondering what to do next, but nope, straight-up pencil dives out of the window and plummets to his death 🤣

My job is to review the financial statements. This scene is why I giggle every time something does not add up in disclosures of pension funds. These lovely irregularities.

What makes this scene even funnier is the "could you make them [the police] a cup of tea please Stephanie". Seems a bit unnecessary to do that before choosing to plummet to your death lol
Everything about this is hilarious, the fact that he asks for tea. Also how there is ZERO pondering on whether to end his life
The real of brilliance of the scene was that it built up around his massive success - ending it with a toast to the future - then after the arrival of the police, Renholm's hopping out the window
...all in one minute and 18 seconds. More comedy than some series manage in half an episode.

The extra layer of funny for me is how the windows seem expressly built in a way to make such a plummet as convenient as possible. No screen. No finicky handle. Dude didn't even need a running start. 😂

I think what makes this the best jumping out of a window shot in the entire history of jumping out of windows is the smooth, single motion of walking to the window, opening it and jumping, alongside the arms straight down by the side.
I love this show lmao. And this scene! The way they make something so dark this comical, there’s just something hilariously British about it. I love how nobody freaks out or faints or anything, they all kind of just sit there and look around, like, “Welp that happened.”
British tv has some great actors who are highly underrated on a global scale

This character is so good I was sad he left the show so early...but man...this end is by far the best I could seen in my life.
Agree, I could happily watch S1 over and over forever and still think it's one of the best shows out there.
In fact in later seasons the I.T. department looks almost too flowery and sunshiney. I like the darkness of the first season.

When I was a teen I never got why the pension thing was a big deal, but now that I work at an office yea it’s a pretty messed up he was taking their employees pensions.
Pretty much meaning if they were fired or retired then their pensions would be non existent and all that they work they did for the company would be for nothing. Yea not only very illegal but liable to be sued by the employees for millions of dollars.
No, the comedy doesn't just end here. It brings in Matt Berry, which is a whole new level.

Good title. Not clickbaity, doesn't spoil anything and everybody who knows the scene knows exactly which one it is.
What is more amazing (in the context of the show) is that this man is rich as hell and instead of wasting a good 3 million (probably a bit low) on cover ups and falsefied documents he just says "Pfff fuck that, I guess im going to fulfill the last thing on my bucket list."
I think that if the police are all ready in his office asking about irregularities in the pension fund, that its a little late for that. Then it would be time to spend on attorneys and bribing witnesses to purger themselves and paying people to destroy documents.
But like, 1,800 billion billion and he'd rather die than try and top the pension fund back up and go to court 😂
I am pretty sure all option was exhausted but then again this is dude who hired Jen as IT manager. Probably hired the same kind of lawyers to protect him which led to this
There was an incident I think in Germany years ago, some guy in an office block had a thing he used to do where he would demonstrate how strong the windows were by running into them and bouncing off. One time there was someone new to the building so he did his trick but went straight through and fell to his death.

Holy shit, the actor pulled this off PERFECTLY. I'm dying, it was extremely hilarious. I decided to watch this show after watching this scene. Btw, it would be way better without laugh tracks I think.

I agree, kinda. I'm usually against laugh tracks, in fact, sitcoms are a turn off for me usually BECAUSE of the laugh tracks. But for some reason, it really works with this show.
