No, not touching makes it less impressive. He intended to touch because that would be cooler. If he didn't want to touch and just wanted to jump over him then that wouldn't be how they would set things up. Touching shows more precision and adds an extra element to the trick. Not touching just shows that you went at least that high in the air. Which is not impressive since all the competitors are getting at least that high in the air.
@@fillfreakin2245 One of those announcers was brought into the surf community to announce and got rejected. The pros didn't respect him and the fans didn't respect him. He ended up leaving after a while. More sports need to shun ppl that are disingenuously making an easy buck off their communities.

He gets more than enough credit. He’s insane yes, but the other riders were stomping gnarly tricks and not getting any credit. Markus is by far the best at this no one could compete with him and it showed.
